I don't think there are many tournaments without Hawkeye. But not even Wimbledon has it on every court - haven't you noticed none of these videos happened in big stadiums?
ATP and these chair umpires expect the players to behave like robots. There are instances when players are excessively sweating and wipe face with towel for 5 seconds and get time violation. The lady who gave Simon warning should be ashamed of herself.
Yeah he quite clearly said 'I can't see the ball anymore, I need some time'. She must have heard it, or just wasn't paying attention. Ridiculous decision, and I swear I've never seen a supervisor do anything in response to a player complaint about the umpire. It's like they're not prepared to admit they're wrong in any circumstances.
Is it just me or would anyone else be okay to get banned from umpiring another tennis match after jumping down from the chair and just whacking a player? The arrogance of these players amazes me every time.
It's a tough thing on both sides really. I mean yes, when you think there are players earning millions, or from wealthy families, and then they come out on court and take out their momentary bad luck on a dude who's probably volunteering for the love of tennis, then it's just ugly. But the flip side of the coin is there are probably 100,000 tennis players competing for maybe 100 slots to even have a career and you work physically hard every day to get a chance at a title and then you have a few things go against you - maybe the sun's in your eyes, you're battling an injury, sweat on your hand making the racket slip, you get a time violation for wiping the sweat off you hands, you lose your footing on the grass, some dick in the crowd calls out while you're trying to serve and then you're robbed by a bad line call from a dude who's one job is to watch a line. All while you're having to pay for travel, hotels, physio, gear. It's very hard to stay mentally cool as a tennis player because it can be very frustrating, stressful, nerve-wracking and it can feel like the world is conspiring against you.
