Lived in SoCal all my life and never caught a Sargo. How do you prepare them? Do they taste good pan fried? Tight lines!

Hi the sargos always bites from end of june to end of august . The sargo test similar to tilapia . Fried soup or in the oven them are delicious

nicer catches, what type of fishing rod do you recommend for this kind of fishing?

For kids a medium heavy fishing rod 7 feet to 8 feet is a good option. Reel size 4000 . Also depending the age if is older age of 12 to 15 them can use a 10 feet or 12 feet medium heavy fishing rod . Spinning reels are most common.

We use mussels and ghost shrimp also sand crabs
