Almost every UK singer, at least the RnB or Pop ones, started off listening to American RnB and Pop, they look up to the American artists to the point of imitating their accents when singing their songs.
So, they carry that habit with them when making their own songs or singing in general, because they haven't adapted to keeping their accents when singing.
If you think about it, how many NY RnB artists sound like they're from NY when singing? Alicia Keys? Ashanti? Lauryn Hill?

EVERY uk and International singer sings in American Accent except rapping
