I bought 12 M1 grands from the CMP back in 2000 , they were all WW2 Service grade in beautiful condition , each M1 was shipped in a cardboard box ,no gun case
I'd rather have the nicks and scratches in the stock from low crawling in the Pacific islands or something like that. I love the history. Gorgeous rifle, I love the Deep color.
The barrel marking are under the op rod area. Pull the bolt FULLY to the rear. You don't want M1 thumb often caused by the bolt hanging on the follower. Then look at the barrel below on the right side below the top hand guard and the lower stock.
@@ARraven15 The barrel was made in Nov. 1943 based on that marking. Parts made by Springfield Armory will be stamped SA along with drawing numbers. The number after the dashes such as D28290-7-SA can give you a rough time period the part was produced.
According to the 4/43SA on the bottom right hand corner of the tag it's a april of 1943 springfield barrel. I built that rifle by the way. I hope you enjoy it!

If you have a reproduction enbloc clip it may try to be "sticky" going into the receiver the first few times. It's nothing to be concerned about. Just hit the enbloc with some steel wool and it'll smooth out.

I've been spending the last few weeks amassing the rest of the parts (slings, clips, bayonet, etc) and am happy to wait as long as it takes. Thanks for your work, it will be a crowning gem in my collection.
Us military rifle. At least it still has the usgi stock. Doesn’t look beat up enough to have been used by the Philippino’s. You got a good one. Looks to be a post WWII rebuild but a good one.
Those CMP Garand that were returned were originally stored in a secured facility in Clark, Pampanga and should only be used during a foreign invasion. The ones that were distributed to local Filipino militias came from Philippine Army/Marines stocks.

Robbie G just got the garand an hour ago, 0+ muzzle reading 1+ throat reading. I have a similar stock to yours, a SA stock with the same P stamp and I also saw on the left side of my stock underneath the elevation knob there is a faint ink stamp that has in big letters “WRA” and underneath the wra it says “GHP” with a black border around the letters. I have no clue what this means.

I also like the darker wood coloring and what looks to be parkerized metal, and I hope to be able to order one like this. That is more of how they were at the time. If I may ask, did you make a note on your order about requesting a WWII Springfield Armory model?

How long have they been putting them in cases? I bought one in 2009, and my buddy brought it back to me no box, nothing but a certificate and instruction Brochure. It cost $1250.00 then!
I wouldn't mind buying a service grade one since they're around $850 currently on their site, which is in my budget but I'm worried because of it's age the stock with crack after shooting it for a few months
The stocks are pretty tough and they do inspect before the send them out. Their customer service is excellent so you can always request one with a new repro stock when you send in for it. I hear they are pretty good at honoring requests.
I believe CMP also sells new walnut stocks, so you can have "Sunday clothes" for her if you like. I love the original stocks - much more character! I'm waiting on a service grade right now - been a few weeks with no communication from them, but guessing the plandemic is causing delay.

If you have more money than you can figure out what to do with, sure, add one of these fine rifles to your arsenal/collection. Buuuuuuuut . . . If you are looking to put together a nice, MODERN, military-grade rifle for "hunting" or "defense" use . . . there are many better ways to do so for the same $1000. The marks and scuffs are everything i'd look for. You know this gun was used and is a part of history! Endless possibilities

If you want a rifle with new wood stock put a sticky note on order form requesting that and there usually pretty good about fulfilling your request.
They're giving out nicer gun cases now.

At the time I knew nothing of the mark.

All the ones I've seen used cases...but field rack and services grade are all under 1k. Unless your buddy bought a special or correct grade...

Stock isn't going to crack. I shot an M1 through a high power rifle season in early 2000's with no issues. Was a service grade also.
