    After I finish making my game, I planned to go down this road in making old Nintendo type music as I actually AM a musician and this would be right down my alley!! In fact, I'm more of a musician than a game developer.

    I reckon with the amount of times you have to apologise about the ear bleeding, you should spend half an hour looking at music theory. You'd save more time in the long run haha

    • @gamefromscratch
      @gamefromscratch  2 роки тому +7

      My theory is, keep at it and eventually you'll all be so hard of hearing, I wont need to apologize anymore... it's the long game!

      Haha! Hey Mike, here's my hacked version of music theory in 30 seconds -- use only the white keys or only the black keys on the piano. That way the notes will always sound in harmony! Don't mix the black keys and the white keys as that requires theory...
      Bonus: If you play only the white keys, you will either be in the C-Major or A-minor scale, which might cover half the music made till now! :P

    Hi,
    a quick tip to limit our ear bleeding, you may try to use only black key notes on the keyboard ;)
    Thanks for your videos :) (I hate you to make me spend so much money on game asset bundles :))
    Regards

    So I'm guessing the algorithm came back to you with the video from Ahoy on "Trackers the sound of 16-bit"... Cuz I got that recommended this morning and then you do a video on one of The trackers in the thing that I was about to go check out later today...

    It would be neat if you could include if this is available in some repositories for Linux. I was going to list some like Ubuntu and Debian, but famistudio isn't there yet. It might be available for other means.
    I was going to list Arch Linux and its branches, but most of them already know how to search the AUR and their package repos. Maybe down the line, since Arch, Pop!, and Mint distros are becoming more popular, maybe mention if development is happening on them other than having to compile from source without a helper.

    • @Cuperino
      @Cuperino 2 роки тому +2

      Hey, but it is available as a Flatpak. Universal packages are the best for targeting the widest number of distributions.

    I'd love to see a something like this using real sounding instruments, or at least close to sounding real.

      That's how most music is made lol, especially in the game/film industry. A DAW with VST plugins is exactly what you're describing.

      bosca ceoil is a daw designed for making video game music and it's full of midi sounds so while most of the instruments don't sound real exactly, the right combinations can sound professional because you've heard them in every 80s song ever.

    Have you ever covered 1bitdragon? They make it out like you can just start scribbling on it and not sound terrible. I figure if you could make something with it that didn’t make my ears bleed, I’d buy it that day.

    • @AshnSilvercorp
      @AshnSilvercorp 2 роки тому +1

      only thing I hate about 1bitdragon is I believe it doesn't work with MIDI keyboards. While I'm OK with simple programs being available, MIDI keyboards are the absolute fastest way to write music.

    I would love to see something like this but for 16-bit Genesis style music. Seeing as this is open source, hopefully someday soon in the future

      There are a few VSTs based on the Genesis sound chip, and they can be used in whichever DAW you prefer. For example, take a look at Cuckoo's video about Chipsynth MD. There are even hardware synths based on the Genesis sound chip, if you prefer a more hands-on approach to sound design, or want to integrate it with a hardware sequencer.
