By the way ting is made from jamaica grapefruits which is naturally sweet like an orange but a bit tart. You probably easier for you to get a pamelo from a asian store.
Glen & Friends Cooking The Coca Cola video popped up on my home page tonight and I binged nearly two hours of videos! I’m going to try a bunch of these recipes for myself. This channel is going to explode! 😍
I love grapefruit sodas. I also love shrimp scampi. As of writing this, It's 1:35am...im contemplating going to the nearest 24hr store and get grapefruits and shrimp. Both looked so good!!!

Ting is Jamaican made product. Its distributed throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. Possibly other places that I'm not sure of. Most Hispanic/ Latino stores in US have Ting
All grapefruit sodas that i know of are white like that, with one exception. Jaritos, Squirt, and Fresca are all that color. Squirt Ruby Red is a pink color.
I got a box of grapefruits for free and have been wanting to make this recipe. Ended up with over 3 gallons of syrup. Luckily I built myself a keezer. This will be a regular on tap as long as I can keep making it. Very refreshing.
Love this! More soda/soft drink episodes, please. I work with and write about cocktails, but my passion is soda. There's not enough videos featuring soda and soft drink recipes from the days of the soda fountain. Thanks for this, and I'll be following along with all your videos! Cheers!
Hey, Glen!!! a while back I wrote to you asking about these recipes for soda syrup. Today I tried it for the first time and made grapefruit soda and it was a complete success, man!!! Thanks for making these videos. I'll be making more of your recipes in the future.
I just brewed one of these with erythritol instead of sugar (Used 1/3 more erythritol than the amount of sugar). Also, I added the grapefruit juice to the mixture when the boiling water was added. This was absolutely fantastic! I've never had Ting before, but this is definitely something I'm going to keep on tap. I might make the mixture 1:2.5 vs. 1:3. Just a slight bit more sweetness would be perfect. Although, that just might be the erythritol rather than sugar. Thanks for posting this!
Idk what it is but I just love these vids. They feel at home. It for the first time actually makes me wanna make these recipes! You look so natural in your environment and you clearly enjoy it and that makes it all!! I love it. Don’t ever stop and your channel is flying high!
Glen, I tried your recipe. Wonderful drink in itself. But after doing some of my own research, the Ting label says it uses Jamaican Grapefruit. Which is here in the states and in Canada the Uglifruit. A tangelo, which I think would change the taste of your recipe to that closer to the real Ting.
Okay, I'm all in. I love tart flavors. Grapefruit is one of the best scents too, and I love using grapefruit essential oils to make the room smell refreshing. Glad you decided to make Grapefruit soda? pop? ... Grapefruit soda pop!
Love grapefruit. Personal preference for the Oro Blanco over the Ruby Reds. That would give you a clearer colour in your mix due to the meat being white in colour. Since it is a sweeter less acidic fruit you may be able to cut the sweetener a bit but may need to up the citric acid.
I am blown away , I know carbonated drinks is just fruit syrup but when you see it 👀👍 ... I think your channel is inspiring me in so many ways ... Love your infectious passion guys 😉😋
I can’t even begin to express how Fantastic this video is! You have made my entire week with this. While I’m from very far upstate NY, I’ve never had Ting.. but hot damn do I love grapefruit pop! Thank you, thank you, thank you
Just made this today and cant wait to try it after work tomorrow :D. I was wondering if you strained your syrup mixture before adding it to the juice or left the zest in?
When I make soda, I melt the sugar into heating water on the stove, like a simple syrup. You don't have to boil it, so it cools off faster. I also use champagne yeast to carbonate - which makes awesome foam - and pasteurize it to stop the fermentation when it's done. I'll have to try making a video sometime =)
Hey I’m not sure if you see this but if you do, next time you use a fruit try putting it the microwave for 10-15 seconds to heat it up some. You will get more juice that way!
I don’t know how your videos showed up in my recommended feed but I’m sure glad they did. Love your channel and videos....despite for your fondness for the Leafs. Woof....♥️
I also highly recommend you stir it next time after adding the club soda, so they're well mixed and you don't get the layering of flavors; but only the combination of flavors.
I squeeze two grapefruits, put liquid sweetener in (I’m diabetic) and fill it up with bubbly water. Tastes great! I doubt I could get a grapefruit here where the skin is not full of poison.
Could you try to do Finnish home made "soft drink" Sima? Sima is nowadays a sweet sparkling brew that is mainly seasonal and connected with the Finnish Vappu festival.
Yes! I love that stuff. Used to make it with my family when I visited Finland in the summer. Favorite part was eating the fizzy raisins after we finished a bottle
@@THEACERASPIREMAN Mead is done using honey, but in sima you put lemon and farin sugar with other ingredients. But still it looks like there's no other english translation to sima than mead.
@@THEACERASPIREMAN Sima and mead are simillar but the taste is not the same. Sima also has low to no alcohol content unless you make it so. Also Sima has raisins in it at least when my grandma makes it.
I would expect that the taste difference may be in the fruit. Ting is made from a Caribbean fruit, and who knows where the grapefruit you used came from. But I like the idea, and will definitely be trying this one. Coca Cola makes a product line called Lift. ( Sold outside of North America ) I had some grapefruit soda in German once. Thought it was a little odd but had a fantastic flavor.
Ting will be made with cane sugar, and while refined white sugar from beet or cane should be the same, theres a good chance that a less refined cane sugar is being used, and there will be a hint of molasses there... BTW Ting goes very well with a splash of Gin... Thanks for great series of Videos
You should try and get Ting that is prepared and bottled in Jamaica. It has a different (better) taste profile. My spouse is Jamaican. I have been drinking it for years. The version bottled for local (CDN) consumption has become sweeter with less grapefruit tart snap flavour.
Heard you mention Ting and headed straight here, I live in the UK and in some parts you can buy it. I'd like to try this recipe, grapefruit is my favourite soda flavour. It probably tastes a lot better than the ones I find in shops with "flavourings and sweeteners".
I suspect just using a peeler and making oleo saccharum would make for a good foundation for your soda, if you have the time to spare. Then you can add your citric acid to the resulting syrup and mix it with you juice and Seltzer whenever you want.
Wasn't my cup of tea with sparkling water (club soda), though it may have had to do with the club soda in question. However, I put some in a chilled wine glass and then added a couple of ice cubes and a crispy white. Summery treat, that. Very good.
In the States we have Squirt and another one is called Wink. Wink was always my favorite of the two but it's difficult to find. I'm going to try this ASAP.
Ive never heard of Ting, but I used to drink the grapefruit soda for mixing drinks my grandma had when I was a kid. So, Id love to make this and the orangeade but I have to cut them down to like a quarter recipe since Im the only one who would drink it.
There is also a pink Ting (made with pink grapefruits). I like them both and they are subtly different from one another. Maybe try your recipe with yellow grapefruit when you undoubtedly make the next batch.
I use hot water to wash them off - sometimes they are waxed, and while the wax is harmless and has no taste; I'll still scrub it off. If you are worried about pesticides though, you should buy Organic, because no amount of washing apparently will remove it.
