Lately, it’s been an all-out war between those of us who truly want to collect and those who just hoard the entire market to resell products at higher prices. It was a miracle that I managed to get a Surging Sparks ETB and no comments about booster boxes… There’s nothing fair about this, and unfortunately, people just don’t care.
If you're buying to hold then msrp or less isn't a bad way to go. It'll take longer to mature but the point about waiting is true. However, I think with prismatic waiting is good because the set has to be printed a few times just like crown zenith. It's also entirely possibly and likely that pokemon company intentionally put preorders up early and didn't give a ton to create the atmosphere of scarcity. It's a good tactic and will keep the demand for the set high well after release even when it's easier to find product.
Forge and fire had a surging sparks booster box and a surging sparks etb combo for $128.97. The fact that they shipped it and were true to their preorders make me confident in them. Props to people who bought cases to resell. That was a fast flip for doubling your money
Now that company is charging $95 for Prismatic Evolution per-orders, I would use random ebay and TCGplayer link before a company pulling that scum bag move. Wouldnt be surprised if you are shilling.
@mmmColdBrew that’s wild I literally just seen that a minute or two ago. Definitely not shilling, chill out. I’m not even the one opening most of the stuff I buy. And it’s not a ton, like the people buying cases, or 50 target ETBs… Edit: you’re right though, that’s a scummy move by them. Shame.
I'd say the best strategy is stay a set or 2 behind the mainstream but keep an eye on the current set to see what the price is doing that way if you can get it for fair price great and if not who cares you're 1-2 sets behind anyway
And yeah it’s funny I got surging sparks booster boxes for $93 after tax and shipping and people were calling me dumb because “sEt aLwAYs dRopS oN reLeAsE”. Looks like I had my last laugh selling my cases at $1150 to those who waited lmao 😂
@@lKINGl who is they? I'm in plenty of pokemon discords and groups and most people were picking boxs up between 90-100$ when they had the money. Saw no one calling someone dumb for picking up surging sparks for under 100$
Shout out Nebraska! I’m new to Pokemon. My son is 8 and got me back interested. All the money going around in it is awesome. I remember in 1999 I loved Pokemon did not think it was making this big of a run almost 20 years later!
I'm having flashbacks to 2020/2021 when we last had a pikachu set that didn't have enough to go around and then the next special set with eevee on the box 🤔
for surging sparks preorders, i got a sealed case of BBs for $599 and 4 single BBs at $100. today’s prices are an insane reality check for those of us reentering the hobby and even those who have been around the block 🙂↕️
The safest play is to buy a case of every set. Regardless of the price it is coming out in 15 years it will be worth more than what you paid. Doing this removes all the headache of "what will set X,Y or Z appropriate to".
Yep. Always preorder as early as possible sealed cases when you can. Even SV base preorders were as cheap as they'll ever be or close and eventually the set will go up.
I started investing in sealed product two years ago, somewhat skeptically at the time per the advice of my 12 year old son, and it’s been one of the better investment moves I’ve made. I agree with the 5-10 year horizon but, in just two years, I’ve already beat the returns I have seen in the S&P during that same time.
def get your point and it is valid but I also have to counter it and say me waiting got me a lot of evolving skies 2 years ago. I had a blast opening a lot ( finally! ) and keeping some sealed. I missed the initial launch and caught the "reprint" on booster boxes and then the Costco ETB's ($35 ) came.. THEN the Costco tins came. I pulled the espeon alt art from those tins and got more evolving packs (averaged $3.50 a pack). I got lucky, very lucky. my point is spending all your money can get you in a spot where you don't have the option to buy a good opportunity. I will also admit I missed chilling pain and fusion strike at very low prices of boosters because i was waiting for more evolving. I think it is all very dependent on "timing" and putting all your eggs in one basket isn't the best idea.
I get your point. I think thats what he's trying to say. Is to buy different things and don't just wait for 1 set or a few sets. But at the same time I think people should collect whatever they like. My brother only wants to collect 151 but thats just for him to collect. Collect what you want. But if u want to hold onto stuff to sell later I say collect different things.. its easy
Agreed that the Team Rocket set will be just as hard to get as Prismatic. And getting booster box cases at 600$ is probably not realistic. If Pokemon Center releases a PC ETB at 59.99 again those will be sold out so fast. Surging Sparks was a great hit for many investors but, I don't see people getting in easily under MSRP again. Everything you said is spot on. I got some Stellar crown, S&V base, temp forces, paradox rift at 105 each from a local game store about a month ago and man I'm glad I did.
I think between the waiting period, it'd be wise to invest into other prismatic evolutions pieces like the binder, the tins, etc. There's always going to be people willing to buy in my opinion
Oh I invest in card games that probably most people never even heard or like dying card games. So like Shadowverse, cfv, weiss etc and im a big fan of anime. Theres a nice small community and you don't have to compete against big store business. Great start for small business and part timer like me.
@@sherrix6881 i mean its not being like printed fast enough and the market manipulation like people selling sealed products 2-3x the prices such a surging sparks, prismatic evolution etc not enough allocation and preorders being cancelled
I started watching you (I don’t even play or collect Pokémon btw) and showed you to my friend and it turns out you helped him build up his business. It’s funny how small the world is lol
I'm planning on returning to the TCG if this Mewtwo EX is good (or decent at least). Last Mewtwo EX I played was the Tera Mewtwo. Pretty decent, but I had no time to play it live, only online.
I just want the set because I wasn't able to get the OG rocket set as a kid, but assuming I won't be able to. I work full time and have a kid so I'm not able to check stores frequently, but when I can they never have packs of anything but fable and plushies
I may be wrong but i think people are missing the message a little. He’s saying the community is making the markets extremely volatile from hype alone. “Hype” has seemed to grow over the past few years and for me, i see it hurts w.e the product may be, a game or a new pokemon set, etc. He mentioned retailers possibly cancelling pre-orders just to raises prices for release because they have market history of supply and demand. Maybe i’m not conveying this correctly or I misunderstood but I agree people need take a hype break.
Hot take (maybe), but Stellar Crown is slept on & a great long term. The Bulbasaur & Squirtles are gonna carry that set cuz people enjoy the slice of life style cards & they're Gen 1
it has just been confirmed that the Team Rocket set (glory of team rocket in japan) will NOT have Dark pokemon, which was the most hyped and anticipated feature. it'll have just "rocket's *insert pokemon*" with an image of a little rocket grunt. and will most likely come to the west as one set, bundled with partners (N's, Lillie's, Marnie's pokemon) which will be the rotation set for the west. it all points to a big flop, a "meh..." set. customers won't spend a fraction on that, compared to what they (want to) spend on prismatic. the unova dex set (151 but unova) seems promicing, and will be to gen z and gen alpha, what 151 was to us millennials. the kids that grew up in the early 10s, got introduced to pokemon with B&W, are now entering the job market, they have finished school and WILL spend parts of their first paychecks on that nostalgic, for them, set.
I know it’s just a guess, but now that SS is $200 a box weeks after release and Prismatic is preordering a good bit above MSRP do you think Pokemon will adjust print runs by the time Team Rocket comes out? I get stores get murdered when boxes are selling at $90, but you also turn off the collecting community when boxes shoot up to $200 a few weeks after release. I’m hoping they find a good supply amount in 2025 so that both sides are doing well
Its modern. actually I dont think we entirly know but they had one teaser video. Im getting the vibe it'll be a BB, old concept, new cards, playerable in TCG as well.
Do we 100% know team rocket is even a full set? I know they previewed the R symbol but isn’t that it ? There’s a trainer set coming out right around then, what if the team rocket stuff gets rolled into that set, kinda like gym challenge ? Or what if it’s just a couple of theme decks ?
My question is why is no one talking about the new Gym Heroes set, Battle Partners, coming next year as well? Two of the greatest all time sets coming back and everyone’s only focused on Team Rocket.
Unfortunately your shop don't ship to Puerto Rico, I wanted some items listed there. I hope that in the future if it is cost effective for your shop it can be shipped to PR. I wish you much success and thank you for always providing good information in your videos.
I just picked up two sea sky boxes at $55 a piece, paradox booster box for $90 and temporal booster box for $100. All at a card show buy selling vintage cards from my PC that have not much growth potential at 80% value and using the money to purchase the sealed product
I've sold off my old leftover XY era stuff && buying up S/V booster boxes under $150 && trying get a BB or 2 of TeamRocket in the near future but can't put all eggs in 1 basket
Also people should learn the stock market and financials cause that helps a lot with emotions and hype for even the Pokemon market. Perfect example was the 5th anniversary Chinese box was going for about 200 you could find it for 160 certain places and now people are freaking out trying to get it for almost 400 not even 3 weeks later literal madness
My bet is still 151 and have been focusing this investment which i think is rewarding in the long term. Bought a few PC 151 ETBs and never opened them. First gen always have nostalgic and advantage in my opinion. I like binder collections actually :). I will pre order some for team rocket for opening purposes and see how the situation goes. :)
I see your point but you need to think about it as forward contract instead of “waiting” to invest. If you can pre order, you agree on a price today for an exchange of goods some time in the future. The solution to that isn’t necessarily investing in something low today just to save yourself 6 months. It’s not quite like the money market. I’m not saying a paradox play now instead of team rocket later is a bad decision, it may be great. Just need to look at it like a derivative instead of the stock itself
For prismatic, I’ll give that to you. For rocket tho…there is literally no goods yet. You’re pre-ordering a concept … it might be a booster box, it might be an ETB, which would have vastly different effects
Brian love your videos but this one I had the urge to comment! Use me by example. I invested 10k into products for the first time a little over 2 years ago with plans of not putting any more funds into sealed until I sell that product. When you mention "making plays" this goes against what I view as investing. Unless of course your someone investing with never ending capital. The reason this hit home for me is because, 8 months ago when I heard of the Rocket set I put that release date in my mind as when I want will flip my current investment into the new. My thought is anyone "making plays" is not really investing. When your making plays I see that as generally much shorter term flips unless your in the situation I mention above and you have tons of capital to continuously pump into each cool set.
He just means moving your money around. Investors don't usually have a large % of cash on hand, as they prefer to put it where it will grow (whether in the short, medium, or long term). So if you got paid, paid your bills, spent on household, put some in savings, and want to spend a % of it investing in pokemon, that's what he's calling a "play". Put your money somewhere that it will grow instead of stagnate. You've decided the long-term play. He's including short, medium, and long-term in his thinking I believe.
We need a HAIR credibility check...the product and process LUL..Got into it 6 weeks ago..preordered and recieved 1 case boosters SS and 2 cases ETBx10. Question is...Do I "wait"to buy more cases (I fully pay pre-orders with my Small shop to guarnetee) or do I take a chance, use A BB store and only pay pre-order..and use that to purchase say a case of paradox rift...about the same price. TY for great hair and content from Australia.
Other than Paradox Rift and maybe Obsidian Flames or Scarlet and Violet Base, there are not many great plays readily available. 151 has been washed out, as has Surging Sparks and Prismatic’s release is going to be like Black Friday in the early 90s. Patience in some ways is key here unless you have a ton of money to spend.
I'm here at 1:13. Waiting till the end for my real thoughts, sir. Some investors, not even a majority, forget that the collecting of sets and cards is meant to be a fun collectible game. Great perspective on those using bide. As a potential business person, it makes sense to focus on sets that are slightly old if the price is fair. Right now, that's not the case.
Nah stellar crown was heat. The art works are fire. I scooped 10 boxes just last week. Ill be scooping up whatever i want. Those eeveelutions are getting grabbed too.
It’s like you people on the internet don’t realize that stores are going to get stock on Prismatic. Can’t wait to just walk into Walmart on release day and buy ETB’s, poster collections, booster bundles, etc.
I mean - stores will “have them” but it’s gunna look like Costco everytime a 151 product drops… and btw 151 is over a year old lol. It’s still a bloodbath and it’s half the set prismatic will be

And it’s not a ton, like the people buying cases, or 50 target ETBs…
Edit: you’re right though, that’s a scummy move by them. Shame.
They upcharged a whole bunch of items man, they arent like they used to
@@RushimaV I can’t find any info of that online
@@Pr3lude9 Just look at the prices man, not sure if they changed some, but they make you pay above msrp
Looks like I had my last laugh selling my cases at $1150 to those who waited lmao 😂
nobody was calling you dumb buying booster box's at 93$ lmao
@ they called me dumb for buying early (when preorders opened) when they assumed it would drop more on release.
@@lKINGl who is they? I'm in plenty of pokemon discords and groups and most people were picking boxs up between 90-100$ when they had the money. Saw no one calling someone dumb for picking up surging sparks for under 100$
@@nscheycome on dude. Don't tease him. He's talking about his imaginary freinds from Foster's
Shout out Nebraska! I’m new to Pokemon. My son is 8 and got me back interested. All the money going around in it is awesome. I remember in 1999 I loved Pokemon did not think it was making this big of a run almost 20 years later!
If you’re waiting on a set … how do you miss the set? 😅
I'm having flashbacks to 2020/2021 when we last had a pikachu set that didn't have enough to go around and then the next special set with eevee on the box 🤔
That’s why I only picked up 1 box from Pokemoncenter and moved on. This could definitely be a Vivid Viltage repeat
I just started investing/collecting this last month. I didnt even realize how crazy it was investing wise. People are absolute savages
for surging sparks preorders, i got a sealed case of BBs for $599 and 4 single BBs at $100. today’s prices are an insane reality check for those of us reentering the hobby and even those who have been around the block 🙂↕️
I find it funny how nobody talks about the Charizard Box set that was at $119 pre order and currently selling for as low as $54.
Definitely a interesting perspective.I have not heard a single person say that they are more excited for team rocket over prismatic
Investors shouldn't be concerned about the fast Nickel and should be buying to hold 5, maybe 10+ years at the very least.
But if u want to hold onto stuff to sell later I say collect different things.. its easy
Usually with a new set I usually get a little bit of each set to keep sealed like a single pc etb and a single booster box per set
Reminds me of the people waiting for the real estate crash, then every year prices continue to climb and they should have just bought in 2021 😂
I got mine for $140 plus $5 shipped....now i dont know if i should just hold until it goes to probably $250 then ill just sell it.
I think between the waiting period, it'd be wise to invest into other prismatic evolutions pieces like the binder, the tins, etc. There's always going to be people willing to buy in my opinion
Which set is Sv9 releasing in march?
I moved on to investing other different card games I like and that works better than waiting or not enough Pokemon cards printed.
Which Games? I thought about lorcana and yu hi oh but I have Zero touchpoints with that
Oh I invest in card games that probably most people never even heard or like dying card games. So like Shadowverse, cfv, weiss etc and im a big fan of anime. Theres a nice small community and you don't have to compete against big store business. Great start for small business and part timer like me.
Investor concerned not enough is printed? I think you mean hobbyist mate lol
Preorders without seeing a set is wild. Market is insane. Surging Sparks set it barely out. You can still buy Silver Tempest and Vivid Voltage MSRP.
Nice hair. What products do you use to get that much volume.
Bahaha! I love the emphasis on "at the end of it." Great stuff as always!
I just want the set because I wasn't able to get the OG rocket set as a kid, but assuming I won't be able to. I work full time and have a kid so I'm not able to check stores frequently, but when I can they never have packs of anything but fable and plushies
I am very picky about who I place preorders thru.
Having my prismatic evolutions orders be canceled really stung.
Double speculating when he described the Pokemon community had my ROFL 😂 PREACH
I've been hearing people say they want a new team rocket set for the last 12 years. This will be prismatic again
I’m hoping they find a good supply amount in 2025 so that both sides are doing well
i called my self investor for a set until i open it all my self and regreat it : )
Does anyone know if Team rocket is a speciality or main set?
Is it just a sort of modern Team Rocket set they’re doing or are they reprinting the Team Rocket box??
Its modern. actually I dont think we entirly know but they had one teaser video.
Im getting the vibe it'll be a BB, old concept, new cards, playerable in TCG as well.
@ gotcha, thanks brother.
Probably because most long term 'investors' are really just flippers
Flippig für 100% Profit is nuts you can wait 5 years 😂
Unfortunately your shop don't ship to Puerto Rico, I wanted some items listed there. I hope that in the future if it is cost effective for your shop it can be shipped to PR. I wish you much success and thank you for always providing good information in your videos.
Yeah people are waiting and Paldean magikarp is selling for over $1k. Could have been scooping them up for $500-$650
Only pre ordered prismatic Pokémon center etb’s from the Pokemon center but it has gone way to crazy for me to buy anything else right now
I bought a evolving skies / Mew Tin from the Costco bundle for $160 ima hold onto that for a while
I just picked up two sea sky boxes at $55 a piece, paradox booster box for $90 and temporal booster box for $100. All at a card show buy selling vintage cards from my PC that have not much growth potential at 80% value and using the money to purchase the sealed product
Aren’t there going to be any dark Pokemon in team rocket this time round? If so I wonder if that will lower the hype for it a little?
CEO of Yapping
I've sold off my old leftover XY era stuff && buying up S/V booster boxes under $150 && trying get a BB or 2 of TeamRocket in the near future but can't put all eggs in 1 basket
In the video you hint at there are other investments besides Pokemon, do you have a video or comments as to what you would be referring to there?
Also people should learn the stock market and financials cause that helps a lot with emotions and hype for even the Pokemon market.
Perfect example was the 5th anniversary Chinese box was going for about 200 you could find it for 160 certain places and now people are freaking out trying to get it for almost 400 not even 3 weeks later literal madness
Do we know is team rocket going to be a .5 set a speciality set? Or a full set with BBs?
Not known yet
My bet is still 151 and have been focusing this investment which i think is rewarding in the long term. Bought a few PC 151 ETBs and never opened them. First gen always have nostalgic and advantage in my opinion. I like binder collections actually :). I will pre order some for team rocket for opening purposes and see how the situation goes. :)
Except Twilight Mascarade is really bad.. still you make interesting points
@@pokene_pokemon no argument there
Just went back to buy stellar crown , paradox rift and scarlet and violet booster box cases . Before they go up
Brian love your videos but this one I had the urge to comment! When your making plays I see that as generally much shorter term flips unless your in the situation I mention above and you have tons of capital to continuously pump into each cool set.
buying a limited resource to keep it for years while supply dwindles has way less to do with investing in the stock market sense than flipping
English pokemon is printing at 60 percent. Of course we should pre-order these sets. Dont wait!
You should absolutely pre/order them but don’t expect to get the pre-order
I’ve been buying the $50 Terastal festival since all Prismatic items are sold out. I did get some binders and 2 PC etbs though.
why buy new team rocket when vintage team rocket holo psa 10s are at like a 3 year low 🤔🤔
Some great points, nice video mate!
I just hope I can get 2-3 booster
Boxes of Team Rocket at MSRP. I grew up on the TRR set and would love to open one and have one to display as well.
team rocket might be the set that never hit msrp XD
Savvy investors should nibble on everything, follow market cycles, and find value in between.
No use in letting your $ rot away dreaming of yesterday
Other than Paradox Rift and maybe Obsidian Flames or Scarlet and Violet Base, there are not many great plays readily available.
151 has been washed out, as has Surging Sparks and Prismatic’s release is going to be like Black Friday in the early 90s.
Patience in some ways is key here unless you have a ton of money to spend.
151 Surging and Prismatic are the worst possible "plays" . Everything else is a much better to invest in at this current moment.
If you’re truly an investor just dollar cost average. Buy on a schedule just like stocks and in 5-10 years you will most likely be in the green.
4 CASES AT 93.99 THEN I GOT THE BLACK FRIDAY AT 161.66 A BOX. BUT ONLY 1 CASE
I got one case for 105 a box. Saw what was happening day 1 release. Got other case for 150 a box 😁
great video as always. quick question - what shelves do you use for storage?
Those look like Costco shelves
Sounds like someone trying to convince you to order more eevee by Lisa frank cause someone OVER ORDERED the newest trash SV set.
lol what?
I'm here at 1:13. Waiting till the end for my real thoughts, sir. Some investors, not even a majority, forget that the collecting of sets and cards is meant to be a fun collectible game. Great perspective on those using bide. As a potential business person, it makes sense to focus on sets that are slightly old if the price is fair. Right now, that's not the case.
Nah stellar crown was heat. The art works are fire. I scooped 10 boxes just last week. Ill be scooping up whatever i want. Those eeveelutions are getting grabbed too.
Double speciality set release ? Pokemon be wild 😂. Sv09 : Team Rocket Strikes Back !
Instructive video man! Thanks 👊😁
It’s like you people on the internet don’t realize that stores are going to get stock on Prismatic. Can’t wait to just walk into Walmart on release day and buy ETB’s, poster collections, booster bundles, etc.
😂😂😂😂 oh you’re going to be so disappointed lol
@bet a case on it
I mean - stores will “have them” but it’s gunna look like Costco everytime a 151 product drops… and btw 151 is over a year old lol. It’s still a bloodbath and it’s half the set prismatic will be
Not enough warehouses 👏 we need NE to flip Rudy on position holding
and as I am watching this video I get a Twitter notification that team rocket will launch on April 18th, 2025 IN JAPAN lol
Hey from South Africa this is the thing that’s happening by us then our supplier in South Africa keeps messing our order from pokemon and I have to fill my vending machines with no product it’s a grind .
I’m sending you a mail today aswell please try take a look if you have a moment 😊
They just revealed the release date lol. Gonna be going into this set heavily regardless.
It's funny you also ignored Shrouded Fable on 1:53 😅😅
Im banking on the set 4 sets after the team rocket set that shit is going to stonk! 🚀🔥🙏🌕
"Scottie's on fire!"😅
Thank You Danny for the information.
