"If you wanted to be really good you have to be good at one thing and other can ve maybe a hobby" really hit hard for me and is true for not only for development but also in life most of us waste to much time trying to master so many things
I like how you mentioned "you have to be interested rather than treating it as a job". I'm a bit confused rn because yes, I am interested in all things dev-related, designing good APIs, GraphQL, DevOps, Tailwind as well. But I also don't want to be coding forever, I feel like life would be a bit monotone if I just sit there code all day, so I'd definitely keep coding as part of my career rather than my entire career. What's your take on this?
this. It's simply not realistic to make code your life, you can only make it a part of your life like you mention as part of your career only. Use it to pay your bills but don't submit everthing for it and as time goes on you won't be able to do it anyway.
Life's all about living through experiences and starting from scratch learning something new is definitely not uncommon. If you treat different areas of coding as the same career then definitely sounds monotone, but if they're different then you can always pivot around to different domains. The only difference from changing areas of focus versus changing to a non-programming related career is the amount of transferable skills you'll have. In either case, I think searching for growth in a bunch of different areas throughout your life is definitely very fulfilling and your perception of those times and experiences as you look back will matter more as you have more stories to tell.
Really liked when you said "You start from scratch only once" and I have realized this too. A lot of time goes into analysis paralysis. Rather being highly skilled at one thing makes sense.
yeah this resonated a lot with me. in 2020,I wasted so much time trying to learn everything, i realised very late that being master of one is much better than jack of all trades.
hey, you did not touch upon the security part please make a video on it. Honestly I am also very interested in it but when I look at salary perspective then I decided to be a android developer, currently I am also learning backend development and your channel is very good at providing information at a very deep level. Appreciate your efforts. Thank You!
I turn my computer on and the next thing I realize i have already opened browser LOL . Also Web development is somewhat easier to wrap my head around. Thanks to the fact many new technologies like three.js(maybe not new) ..etc are just awesome for both dev and users. But the scary thing is every month there is something you don't know which is cool. learning is not the hard part, learning + time constrain + stress sometimes turns out to be bit too much
Right now, I'm dabbling with the frontend side and moving towards full stack, but, I do want to explore all the fields in the computer science domain, and see for myself where would I will best fit in, thus, kind of, tending towards becoming a generalists but at the same time honing in on that one thing.
I am new to programming. Self taught for 1 month now. I started with front end and am currently brute learning by doing projects and reading a js book with a little bit of Google and UA-cam search. My aim is to get into web 3.0 and data science (I have a background in Economics and Statistics) that's why I am committing to Js and python in 2022 doing 20hrs of study per week. My interest is to eventually work as a freelancer while creating solutions to problems I see and hopefully create a solution that morphs into a startup. My question is should I perfect on Js and Python only or blend with their frameworks? Am I overstretching myself by learning two core languages in addition to CSS and HTML? I have a strong interest in Blockchain and Data.
It's a good idea to build strong foundations in both languages. However, once the foundation is strong, you should definitely learn their frameworks. For any medium to large project, you will feel the need to have a framework, because they make life much easier. Moreover, if you bid for freelance projects (or regular jobs), the clients/employers will probably expected you to know a framework. However, learning a framework directly, without having a solid grasp of its language, leads to problems down the road. Therefore, the solid foundation you are laying now is definitely valuable; Kudos for that. All the best!
This is actually happening with me, Distributed systems, ML, WebDev, Leetcode, Blockchain, Network programming, hacking ....... and this is only my 1st sem of grad
I understand the saying is be master in one rather than jack in all trades. However, many fields within Computer science is merging. You can and will definitely learn ML/AI and Data Science together; however believe it or not learning Cybersecurity and AI/ML is also quite possible, especially when infosec is ever-changing. More automation tools and softwares are been developed and ML helps in understanding a pattern before say for example a Malware attack is been hurled at a system. So a combination of both ML/AI with cybersecurity or Data-science with ML/AI is really a possibility and you can be VERY GOOD at both !! Thanks for the video
