SO appreciative for this video -- thanks for the useful comments, clear shots, and product recommendations. Really well done and it was like hanging out with a friend in their garage learning how to do something the right way.
Thanks man, plenty of videos on how to remove emblems but couldn’t find any on how to re-apply the replacements. Until I came across yours. Much appreciated!
You use a rough paper towel to wipe off the liquid from your freshly polished paint. Then, you wipe the same spot with your oily hands... afterwards, you drop all these rough items on the hood of the car.
@@HagakureJunkie You can use paper towels on your car. But even if he was wrong, that paper towels don't contain wood particles, other fillers and sometimes even fiberglass, why are you so aggressive and immediately go to name-calling? Also, what do you mean paint can "handle" road debris? Road debris isn't good for paint either. Maybe you're the one who is the troll.
This is serious guys, I used paper towel on my car once and blew a head gasket, ended up costing me thousands. Please just be safe and always use microfiber cloths.
@@HagakureJunkie lol you guys should actually look it up. it's not that the paper towel itself is too rough and will damage the car, but it will drag along fine dirt and debris that's on the paint and create minor swirl marks and scratches in the gloss. a microfiber has the fuzzy fibers which trap the dirt in more so they aren't being dragged directly on the car's paint. it's not trolling just an actual car care fact. go ask any reputable car wash/detailer and they will tell you only use microfibers to wipe.
3-M makes emblem cement for putting on badging, although there's little difference between that and the weatherstrip cement. I am putting new weatherstripping on the driver's door of my 1977 Electra as the 40 year old rubber is disintegrating and there's too much wind noise. I always use masking tape as a guide when glueing on emblems, as I would never get them on as straight as you did in this video. That Chevy is looking better all the time. You do great paint jobs and probably should open up your own shop.
I’m confused 😕 some people say 3m double sided tape , some say foam tape , some say glue . I’m too scared to try it myself , but I’m sure a car garage would charge way too much ‼️‼️
I think Goof Off uses acetone as a base. But I was wondering about this too. Peeling it off with a finger nail seems to work as well as anything else I've tried.
There is a better way. 3m press and place transfer adhesive. No double sided foam no trimming. Just reapplied my Rocky Mountain badge on my Grand Cherokee and you can't tell the difference. This stuff isn't thick like double sided tape and looks fantastic.
My passenger side "XLT Lariat" badge fell off my truck about a week ago. I'm debating on whether or not to put it back on right now, I really would like to patch some rust spots up and repaint the truck sometime in the near future.
Reattach emblems. You can always remove them if you decide to paint your car. Never increase project scope when you're just a sneeze away from the finish line.
@@theamazinggoldfish8713 That sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, the emblem fell off my car a couple of weeks ago, and is no longer available. ... Evidently I didn't do an adequate job.
Prep the car but not the emblem....SMART......bet its straight as can be also ....and you just have to love your yellow adhesive background touch, lovely how it just comes from around them edges.....more like HOW NOT TO INSTALL AN EMBLEM
Actually mate he did a bloody good job sticking that emblem on straight, I’m sure you’d not do any better. Don’t find his vid helpful move the fuck on 😁
lol ya i just did the same! I tried to use 3m weatherstripping glue in the beginning but found out that its tacky, dries fast and hard to apply. The tc emblem on my Scion didn't have much surface area. Hopefully it won't peel off in the summer
what do you do if you got a new badge and your trunk is slightly curved where the old logo was, but the new one is straight and wont bend? what do i do? the adhesive comes up
mrmkc2 a better way is take fishing line cut you off a foot of it. Wrap one side around your left hand finger then wrap the other end around your right hand pointer finger. Run the line in between the car and the badge in a sawing motion till the badge comes off. Remember to go slow cos it heats up and can burn through the fishing line.

The black variant of the weatherstrip adhesive is 08008, you have yellow which is 80010

Overall, good job and thank you.
Cool story bro, what did you paint? Once the car paint has been baked, it's quite durable. You'd know that if you ever got your hands dirty....
Is there a reason to use weatherstrip adhesive when 3M makes a specific product to stick emblems back to cars? 3M 08061.
Thanks bro
Never, ever, ever wipe your car with a rough paper towel. Use microfiber always.
Oh really? So the car paint that can handle grease and road debris and everything else OUTSIDE can't handle a paper towel? Fuck off troll.
@@HagakureJunkie BUT YOUR CAR WILL STOP WORKING lol

Over all im happy with his advice seems pretty knowledgeable

I use bubble gum
Which brand ? I heard hubba bubba is good
Big chew or zebra gum 🤔 😆
Plain 3m weather stripping adhesive works like a charm, old body shop trick

How did you remove the excessive glue that squeezed out from the sides of the emblem
I just used Goof off super glue/adhesive remover. You can also try acetone in a pinch
I think Goof Off uses acetone as a base. But I was wondering about this too. Peeling it off with a finger nail seems to work as well as anything else I've tried.

Any recommendation on what to use for removing the "spider webs" and other excess afterward?

Is the weather stripping cement preferred over double sided tape?
Hot glue works great 👍🏻

what do you do if you got a new badge and your trunk is slightly curved where the old logo was, but the new one is straight and wont bend? what do i do? the adhesive comes up
A heat gun and bending it could work
whats a good technique for removing badging like this when getting ready for body work/repaint?
Place a block of wood against the length of the emblem. Smack the wood with a hammer. That emblem should come right off.
Not on the emblem itself, but under the bottom edge. Sorry, too tired.

What's the best technique of cleaning any access gunk that comes out from the badge once it dries
Heat gun and goo gone.
What about some Crazy Glue? That's supposed to stick anything!
Do you want it to run down the car? Lol
How well does crazy glue work on attaching emblems?
say goodbye to your paint sir
Andre the Giant grandson
Nah I’ll just use flex tape
How's about puya MAZARATI emblem on my gutless "yet loved" Subie 🤣......🏹🤠👍
