  • In this video Mary Jo rides the beautiful Virginia Creeper Trail, a 34 mile long rail trail She starts her ride by catching a shuttle from Damascus to Whitetop Station. She then has nice downhill ride past Green Cove to Taylor's Valley where she has lunch at the Creeper Trail Cafe. From there she enjoys the spectacular scenery on her way back to Damascus. At Damascus she makes a pit stop at Mojo's for smoothie. Then continues on to Laurel Run Cabins where she talks to the owners Trudy & Joe before she get a good nights sleep.
The next morning Mary Jo rides the section from Damascus to Abingdon about half way there she stops at Avarado station. This section of the trail has a completely different feel, but is no less beautiful! At Abingdon she tours the Arts Depot and talks to Rick Rose from the Barter Theater. All in all this a great place to spend a couple days and a wonderful trail to ride.

I rode from Abingdon to Whitetop and back in a day. The climb is long but not bad at all. I didn't push hard on the climb at all and averaged about 11 mph on the climb. To me, that is the way to do it. You should earn the ride down the mountain. After getting back down into Damascus, I stopped for a nice lunch at the coffee shop right off the trail and then rode back into Abingdon. I had an absolute blast!!

Whitetop is in southwestern Virginia, not southeast stated in the video. You can see eastern North Carolina and eastern Tennessee on the way to the Whitetop drop off.

I rode this whole trail, and it was very fun. I actually stay with my family at the house near the white top station, and it’s only a bike petal away!! I stop at the cafe and then stop at the ice cream place. The farmland on the second half is gorgeous, I definitely recommend this trail. 👍

We just got back from there this weekend. Stayed in that same cabin. We rode Whitetop to Damascus Friday evening, Damascus to Abingdon on Saturday, and then hooked up with a group of adventurous people for a night ride on Whitetop Saturday night. It rained Friday night into Saturday making for a muddy night ride, with temps in the 40's and wind gusts of 20mph. I looks like you were there during a rainy time as well based on the high water in the creek. I've never seen it that high before. My wife and I do this trip every year for our anniversary.

We were there in late April and it rained like crazy the day before and the day we got there. Just loved the trail and the people in the area!

I ride it regularly and you gave an excellent perspective of what it has to offer, must say though I don't use the shuttles, but they definitely serve a good purpose. Just don't try riding up the trail from Damascus to White Top on the weekends, you'll be bombarded by all the people who shuttled to the top and are screaming down.

Thank you, we usually use shuttles while filming just don't have enough time to ride both directions.

At 14:47, I swear I think Mary Jo is saying "in many places the trail is only 80 feet wide". Maybe I am hearing it wrong.
