I enjoy watching these old games in order to escape the absurdities of the modern game. Those were the days, when you could watch a game without a constant scroll running across the bottom of the screen.
Seeing Marino play just brings me back to real football. He always kept you on your feet with anticipation. Wow I remember those games. R.I.P. coach shula
Oh yes,I remember as young teen when this gm happened and throughout Marinos career,I would sit with my friends and take all the jokes BUT I knew the Dolphins were NEVER out of a gm and once he started finding that Rhythm it was gonna be a lot of fun!!I miss them days, football has never been the same for me once he retired,I've kept up with the fins, they were still pretty good until bout the mid 00's, but imo As great a coach as SHULA was and he is very loved in MIAMI I think if he stepped down after the 89 season Marino mighta had a chance, because the thing is DS just forgot that he had to also build Marino a D that wouldnt fold up like a lawn chair and in retrospect the worst thing happened for Dan,they went 12-4 won the WC gm against KC,AMarino classic BTW!!Lol!!and BOOM there was renewed hope in Miami and to Shulas credit he did put a pretty good D on the field in 90 and 92 but when they neede it the most those D's too would implode in big gms and I think it was the 90 D that thru half the season had the #1 ranking, but would wind up either 7th or 11th??so basically both units pretty much turned into the D that Marino would have his entire career with Shula!!everybody blames JJ but he did bring with him a word not heard very much in MIAMI back then DEFENSE!!but unfortunately by the time JJ signed on as HC Marino was in his 14th season and heading into his 3rd post surgery season, and of course as the D by 98 was EXACTLY the type of D,if he had in the mid and late 80's would have gotten him at the very least a couple more trips back to the SB,They were stout and a perennial top 10 D and at times top 5!!but the eras just never gelled for him and it was just too little too late for DAN MARINO,but man was he an AWESOME QB and honestly as many trophys as BRADY wants to win he just is not and NEVER will be a better passer then MARINO!!he was a system guy!!
Marino was fun to watch, but this era of dolphins' football wasn't REAL football. When you're last in the league in rushing and haven't had a 100 yd rusher in 2 1/2 seasons, something is wrong.
The final year in the Orange Bowl for the Dolphins in 1986. Frank Gifford Al Michaels on the call for this game on ABC at 9pm. This is the reason why " Dan the Man" owns the Jets. Even with the Jets talent of O'Brien Al Toon Johnny Hector Freeman McNeill etc. Ken o Brien was on fire in 1985 and 1986 he was so underrated. I have his 1985-1986 Jets Ken O Brien and 86' Al Toon #88 , and Mark Duper #85 1985-1986 Dolphins ( Orange Bowl era) Sandknit jersey. Them colors and uniforms were so beautiful, these jerseys suck balls 110% . For the 100th NFL anniversary they need to bring the 1984-1986 Jets uniforms and the 1984-1986 Dolphins uniforms out. 😊😊😊 80's and 90's football forever.
I do remember watching this specific MNF game in 1986 when I was 8. I’m a Broncos fan & I was one at 8 , but I do remember the magical impression these intros plus football at nighttime (live) made especially to me at that young age. I got into football very early (5 or 6) and by 8 I did already know what 90% of the penalties were all about & all of the rules of the game.
Ha…that’s awesome! I was also 8 during this game, and this is the first NFL game I ever attended. My godfather came to the house randomly that evening and asked my parents if he could take me to the game. I BEGGED them to let me go (a big ask back then, since MNF started at 9 pm). They conceded, under the condition that I couldn’t complain about being sleepy the next morning when getting up for school. My memory is a bit foggy (as you might imagine lol) but I believe that was Monday before Thanksgiving, so that probably helped, lol. Great memories!
As a 12-year old at the time I remember being so mad that I actually had to go to school the day after this game which happened on Thanksgiving week. I still see absolutely no point in kids going to school Monday and Tuesday when Thanksgiving's on Thursday. Looking back I definitely should've found a way to skip.
@@joey2729 Yes I totally agree with you, I used to go with my Dad to the games back in the 70s and 80s. I remember when they had Flipper at the end zone in a pool🐬. Great memories back then 🤔
I remember the great Pete Axthelm (who always appreciated the Marino led Phins) on NFL '86, when the Jets were 10-0, saying "this could be the worst 10-0 team in history...in fact, as I'm looking at their schedule, I don't think they're gonna win another game this year". And they didn't.
The 1986 NYJ were never 10-0. They lost in Week 2 at home to New England 20-6. They were 10-1 coming into this MNF game at Miami. They did lose this last 5 regular season games to go 10-6 and qualify for the Wildcard playoff game vs KC (W, 35-15). The next week they were eliminated from the playoffs by Cleveland (23-20 2OT).
@@SS-th9wz Right, and it was Paul Maguire who said they would lose their last 5 games after they started 10-1. People forget their entire front 7 was hurt down the stretch.
@@steves9964 Exactly, and those same people apparently don't understand just how devastating those players were to an opposing team's offense and the drop off in talent to the backups.
Best game of his career. He had another 100-yarder VS the Pats in the season finale but otherwise Hampton was completely and utterly unremarkable in every way.
seems like the Jets have everyone and their mother regulars injured . don't know where this game is going. lost interest in american football around 1985 . been watchin again last one or two years . i like watching these old games because today's nfl is pathetic .
I agree to a great degree and watch a lot of these old games as well.It just seems to me the game was better back before it became all about money and a media circus. The game back then had a mystique that it just hasn't had in last couple decades. In the 70's and 80's they were EVENTS not just a game.Gameday on Sunday and Monday Night Football were something special.Today it just doesn't have same effect it seems to me
I am a Marino and Dolphins fan . But i can't understand how anyone can love blowouts like this one . Like a good whodunit novel i like the back n forth emotion and tension right to the end, and miami wins right near the end, of course :-)
If I’m not mistaken (and I very well could be) before this game Jimmy The Greek said The Jets would not win another game the rest of the season. Well, he was right
Awesome Ship !!Thank You brother. Love those Dolphin uniform s back then . Any chance we get the 1977 Thanksgiving game against the St. Louis Cardinals ...🤔😁😎🌴🌴🌴
There may have been another Miami home game on MNF this year, but I wonder if this was Al Michaels' only game (or games) in the Orange Bowl? This considering it's Michaels' first year on MNF and the Dolphins would move in to Joe Robbie Stadium the following year. Unless he called a Univ of Miami college game?
No one talks too much bout that jets duo of WALKER and TOON but imo they had better hands then Marinos MARKS BROS!!back in the day I would not of said that but I've gotten to watch a lot of Miami gms from that era that I couldnt watch cuz I grew up in CT,but thanx to YT Ive seen Alot of Marino era gms and I noticed one very glaring thing those 2 guys DROPPED A LOT OF PASSES and I mean a lot!!!yes they had their splash plays of course and were GOOD WR's but I better never hear that debate again if who made who Marino or was it his WR'S??it was MARINO PERIOD!!
