Only FORD engineers could devise such a painstaking brake system....Quite evident they never had to repair it themselves. I appreciate your various videos, and how to overcome "Man Made" obstacles! Thank you for your time, you have saved many of us from pushing our Explorers over the cliff!
Patients, that's a good one,I lack a bit,and too many non-patient words. New shoes and kit on my 2002 explorer, your good video as a guide. Ps I sell good Ford parts a Nova scotian Ford shop. Have a great Saturday 🇨🇦, wet snow, and rain today, one clip in,one to go,coffee time again. 👍🙏🇺🇸🇨🇦
Those clips for holding the shoes to backing plate. Where can I get them ? Mine is an 03 and the clips are half that length. They look to be easier to get on. Is this oem only on certain years ? Thanks.
I just did mine on Monday. I had to replace the dust shields too. I cut the shields in half, put them on, then welded them back together. The one retainer is the only hard part. I don't know why they put it right behind the lower ball joint. I finally just took the knuckle loose.
if you think this one is a pain in the ass my 05 sport trac had 2 long top springs one on the outside of the shoe and one on the back side and the holes they catch are much smaller other than that and the shoes latch design they are identical. really difficult to put on especially because the hub is in the way. Wish I saw your video before I did this you had some good tips like wedging the ratchet to put in the retainer clips.
Out of 3 UA-cam videos , yours is the only one that shows to have that top spring in place on the brake shoes and then put the whole assembly back on ! The other two left the top spring for last and used a needle nose locking plier to pull the spring back in place , and that is really hard to pull ! What I'm curious about is , how difficult was it to get the bottom spring back on ? You didn't show that part . Thanks !
I had to replace my hardware... I attempted to put the spring in before the clips... I'm definitely going to give the clip-first approach next time. Not that you can't do it, but you have to fight the spring pulling the shoes while trying to compress the clip. Also, do the lower clip first. It's pretty difficult to get at that clip with both shoes on.
I should of watch this video first my hands skin are so chipped off by missing stretching the big spring my hands hurt lol.. ur my hero man.. bless and the clips omg so stressful but got it done
Thank you! I took my 2008 Explorer to Brake Check to do the brakes. Evidently the E brake wasn't something they do. 5000 miles later the E break failed inspection. Disappointing.
Thank you sir, I've had this Explorer for 10 years and the E-brake never worked. Now thanks to your tips, I can send my daughter off knowing she has a safe E-brake. :-D
@@Watchout1010, we live in hill country. My daughter parked the Explorer on a steep driveway and used the park feature to hold it on the hill. When she tried to take it out of park it broke the shift linkage. If you're an auto mechanic, and are suggesting people use the park feature of their auto trans to hold their large SUV in place, you're giving very bad advice. Replacing that linkage was a PITA. ;-)
Those pins are a pain to hold in place when you are doing this by yourself. I ended up inserting the pin and then inserting a wooden dowel in the backing plate recess and clamping the other end of the dowel to the axle bracket. That way the pin could not drop out. It took me a lot of swearing to finally figure it out and after that it was a breeze!
LOL....it helps that I have an engineering background and the fact that I watched a few McGyver episodes! The younger generation would have no idea who McGyver was! Take care.
This clips are the worst thing Ford came up with I am use to the push and turn keepers and I wonder why there is no auto adjustment anymore like the older fords
Next time shoot the birds before you start any brake job. Bird chirps are annoying. LOL. Good job . Those clips are a pain in the ass i can see. But with lots of fortitude and tons of profanity im sure it can be done. Thank you Sir.

Just did one,the bottom pins are a fn pain-small wire to pull it through, bag tie.
Word!
your video is one of the only videos that I see showing complete brake job for the emergency brakes thank you
;)
This is the best video I've found yet working on drum brakes
Thanks!

Love this assembly technique!! Worked beautifully! Thank you!
Great!!

Yep pretty common...ugh!!
Bag tie poked through the hole pulls the pin through
Good video.
Nice!!

O my!! Wow!
Very well done video and useful info
Thanks
Thanks!
THANKYOU for the video sir
Great illustration of the components laid out. This makes it easier to visualize re-assembly.
I'm intrigued with the jack itself. What year is that?
1936 I think. Its the same jack that was in the Three stooges skit when they were mechanics...lol
LOL! I remember that 3 stooges skit. Thanks again!
Ya,2 pins 2 retainers,2 springs and an adjusters-ya,rocket science.

Thanks man! I knew that gets everyone. Bottom springs was easy, just use needle nose tools. Have a great day!~

Sal-Vij-a-bull :) Re-usable works too, as would it still has life left in it. :)
Word!
the bosses son must have designed this emergency brake
Right!~

Heres whats funny, automatic trans has PARK that locks the wheels?
@@Watchout1010funny thing, when I send my daughter off to drive my car, I want all the safety features to work. 🙄
@@robinh940138 just did one,same parent concern-safety.-manual trans,yep,auto has park.

The bird noise is annoying, otherwise decent video.
Works for the LINCOLN AVIATOR as well, for those who dont know
Good to know!

Panos K you definitely need to be a patient ingenuitive little MacGyver to do these if you're not familiar with them!

So true!
I believe those nail things are called retaining PINS
Actually mechanism shoe support lock guides keepers

Right!!
Where do I get the pads from?
Found some on e-bay from a dealer
Duh parts places, not from da grocery store.
My 2001explorer sport has two spring on top of the shoes
Thats so you can jump higher

It's not a hub it's a rotor
is it round?
Ever hear of a tripod
Ask Scotty
BUY A NEW EBRAKE cable dont put on some MISC spring thats such bad practice and advise...
Video is For reference only and you know that.
