  • Printing should be the final step for every photo. Yes, thats not "always" possible - I know.
    Nowadays with smartphones everywhere the printed amount of photos will be even smaller - seen in percentage.
    But: how big can you print your photos? I use an iPhone 13 Pro and demonstrate in this video, how and how big I will print my photos.
    For the printing process I'm using Mirage from DinAX on an EPSON SC-P900. For more infos visit dinax.com

    Martin, Thanks for the clear explanation. I could follow but only to a certain point. You never told the us what the pixels per inch resolution was when you resized the image to A2. Can you explain?

      Because if you don't have more pixels, you use what you have.
      Regarding dpi: 300dpi for a reading distance of 30cm. If the print is larger, you will be looking at it from a larger distance. So you don't need 300dpi anymore. If you have it because your camera has enough pixels, that's even better. But don't worry if you don't have the resolution.

    nice video. very helpful. but how to calculate if I have cropped the photo?

      Pixelsize is all you need. You can calculate from that. 300pixel are needed for 1 inch. If you watch from 30cm/7in distance.
      Greater viewing distance = less pixel per inch.

    Hi Martin,
    Thank you for the informative video.
    You mentioned at around 6:30 time stamp about downsampling image by 90% for A4 print.
    Could you explain why you did that.
    So, finally you printed the A2 at 72 dpi then ?
    The diagonal of A2 being around 70s. And one views it at two time the distance then.
    I got a bit confused here and would help if you could clarify on how you arrived at the final DPI based on viewing distance and diagonal
    Thank you

      Hi!
      For A4 at 300dpi you need 2480 x 3508 Pixel. BUT the 300dpi are at a reading distance of approximately 30 centimeters.
      If you print the image bigger, you or the viewer will most certainly view it from farther away than 30 centimeters. And this is why you can reduce the dpi and gaining printing-size.

      @@martindoerschHello Martin, I have a question about printing larger images from my iPhone. I looked for the mirage print app you mentioned and didn’t see it in the App store. Is there a way to print 11x17 photos directly from my iphone? My phone gives different size options but doesn’t show 11x17 and the printer is capable of doing it, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Was the iPhone photograph image re-sampeld (up-sampeld?) from 72 dpi to 300 dpi? If so when?

    • @juanpabloaguilar481

      Can an original 100 cm image with 72 dpi become a smaller 300 dpi printable image (to see closely as in a book)?

    • @martindoersch
      @martindoersch  2 роки тому

      Hi!
      There is no "re-sampling or up-sampling" needed.
      The only relevant data are the pixels you have in the first place.

    Thank you Martin, can you do a video for the best quality print size for iPhone 14 Pro Max with the 48MP camera? :)

      Hi Vegan Food & Fitness!
      It's best to understand how much pixel you need for a given size. Or how big you want to print your photos and where you want to present them? And whats the viewing distance and why you not always need 300 dpi.
      I did a course on this: www.learndesk.us/class/5399895387144192/how-to-print-your-photos
      It's a big topic! But sooo worth understanding!

    Great ,do you use raw files ?

    • @martindoersch
      @martindoersch  2 роки тому +1

      In this case I didn't. It's also not as important to shoot RAW over JPG, because the resolution is the same!
