I've said it many times, Chris Jericho is The Rock's most underrated rival. Obviously his rivalry with Stone Cold is iconic, and he had terrifically memorable feuds with Triple H and Mick Foley (although I prefer them as allies rather than enemies), but there are very few people who could both hold their own against Rock on the mic and in promo segments, while also having as consistently great in-ring chemistry as well. I would say that objectively speaking, The Rock's best matches, from a purely fundamental, technical level, were with Jericho. Virtually every match they had against each other in 01 & 02 were total bangers.
Yeah, and they created an iconic segment on Jericho's first night. His debut is one of those wrestling things that just lives in my memory and every now and then I will just look it up on UA-cam to watch it again.
Imagine an alliance between HHH, The Rock, and Jericho on a heel run with Trips and Rocky as tag Champs, Jericho as IC champ, Trips as WCW Champ, and Rocky as WWF Champ. The reign of terror but as a stable.
Now that I think about it, Chris Jericho’s Undisputed Championship run was similar to The Miz’s 1st WWE Championship run. - Beat Randy Orton at Royal Rumble due to Nexus interference because Orton and Nexus/CM Punk were feuding. - Beat Jerry Lawler at Elimination Chamber due to Heel Michael Cole interference because Cole and Lawler were feuding. - Beat Jerry Lawler again on RAW in a TLC match due to Heel Michael Cole interference again. - Beat John Cena at WrestleMania 27 due to interference by The Rock because Cena and Rock were feuding.
Throughout his run and the aftermath, he was a background character. It’s even worse because WWE proved that they can book Jericho as a great champion. It took them over half a decade but they proved that Y2J was shown to be very intelligent and unlikeable without having to be tied to Stephanie like he can’t go through daily life without her.
Now that I am studying and doing my homework, seeing folks get their "Crowning Achievements" get mishandled or booked to make them look weak as their top champion always got under my skin. Can we just have a straight up World Champion who doesn't scream "Hand-Picked Corporate B.S." ? Just once?
Not a bad idea. I wouldn’t mind that, but also maybe a Ziggler world title reign coming off the Survivor Series win. They did nothing with Dolph getting the pinfall in that match.
@@buhbuhjaychampagne1706 I think it was because, if I’m not mistaken, they threw him in as a stand in for Roman Reigns, and then maybe didn’t quite expect how much of a reaction that got when he won. I mean, I get it, but also, come on, give Dolph something! His NXT title reign was ok but it was way too short for what he’s owed.
Jericho and the Rock's 'I AM NOT A JOKE' promo before the Rumble is on my short list of best promos ever. It's built up through the entire show, opens with one of Rock's best promos, and ends with some AMAZING passion from Jericho and an fantastic bit of intensity between the two.

Adam did kind of set the bases for Biker Taker in his Higher Power rebooking: Taker buried himself alive with Jake the Snake Roberts, and came back from his hip replacement "depowered" as the Biker.
Terrific bit of straightforward booking Adam. As someone who was a huge Jericho fan at the time and someone who rebooks stuff in my head all the time this was very enjoyable.
"You know how you know the business is going down the toilet?’ "How Vince?" "Well we’re putting the belt on Jericho! PWAH!" Jericho's title reign in a nutshell. Even Vince didn't care.
I've heard that in one of Jericho's books, he talked about the Mania 18 match and how was significantly underpaid unlike Triple H who got top billing. He stormed into Vince's office and demanded more money and Vince straight-up wrote Jericho a cheque worth six figures, almost as much as Triple H. I might be confusing this with Vengeance 2001 (apologies if I am), but nonetheless it is a fun little story.
I like the idea of Jericho being smart and conniving. Reminds me of fully loaded 2000 where he got the jump on triple h by convincing him Kurt sent Stephanie flowers
1st! Cheers to Adam as always, this was a topic I was looking forward to being covered for awhile now. 2nd! There are 2 things I loved and hated about this period for Jericho. The good: He would finally break out of the Midcard scene to become World Champion. He was able to become a Main Event Level Talent and get the last laugh over WCW. The Bad: It is super downplayed when compared to other World Championship reigns. Triple H was dead wrong in sabotaging his big run. No matter what Y2J did, he has no business messing with that. As much as this period of his career is praised, I still feel that Y2J could of done such more and made this feel more special. Dammit Hunter!
Continuing off of this, I'd have Jericho drafted to Smackdown where he becomes a top heel there with the Mastermind gimmick Adam proposed here. Would make for an interesting version of the Smackdown Six (or Seven?) with Jericho in the mix.
My only issue with this is it stops Jericho beating Austin & Rock in the same night. But otherwise I really enjoyed it!! Great ideas on how to use Jericho's ability to sell a story - I'd love to see more historical bookings too, like WCW or ECW stuff if you ever could :)

Hey Adam, here's an idea: as it'll be one year on from booking the first Women's Royal Rumble for your next one, why not make you next booking on how you'd book the 2011 40 man Royal Rumble?

Also, that chess segment... beautiful.
I like fantasy booking like this. You didn't do anything crazy drastic. You just took the existing pieces and made tweaks to enhance what was already there and make it better. Dear Adam, you’ve fixed a lot of storylines that WWE have fumbled: The Invasion, Austin being hit by a car, Austin’s heel turn. But what about Triple H’s Reign of Terror. Now I know the easy answer would be to just not book it at all but I think you can fix anything and make it interesting.
