- Dumpster diving is salvaging from large commercial, residential, industrial and construction containers for unused items discarded by their owners, but deemed useful to the picker. It is not confined to dumpsters and skips specifically, and may cover standard household waste containers, curb sides, landfills or small dumps.
Different terms are used to refer to different forms of this activity. For picking materials from the curbside trash collection, expressions such as curb shopping, trash picking or street scavenging are sometimes used. When seeking primarily metal to be recycled, one is scrapping. When picking the leftover food from farming left in the fields one is gleaning.
People dumpster dive for items such as clothing, furniture, food, and similar items in good working condition. Some people do this out of necessity due to poverty, others for ideological reasons, while still others do so professionally and systematically for profit.

Ate, wala ka ba work? Hindi na po maganda na kumukuha ka ng expired na food sa garbage bin. Parang proud ka pa sa ginagawa mo. Our kababayan will think that getting expired food in the trash can is okay. Meron ka namna work and also ang mister mo. Puede po ba magandang ememplo naman ang I content mo.
May i ask po, panu po kami naging hindi magandang ihimplo sa inyo? Thru dumpster diving we were able help so many children (your counrtymen mostly in the Philippines), thru dumpster diving we are able to help your kababayans who are just starting a life here in finland, thru dumpster diving we are able to help so many that needs medical attention, thru dumpster diving, we were able to help displaced victims in Turkey, Namibia and Africa, thru dumpster diving many empty plates had been filled. I hope you look around you and be realistic that in this life, many are suffering, and the world is suffering from hunger. You might not have been in my shoes, and you are lucky, but always remember sa kasabihan na bilog po ang mundo. @@ThaiFinnishPeroPusongPinay ate I appreciate how you have help the pinoys who are new in Finland and etc po. Pls go back to basic, ask your self why do these food and canned goods and pack foods are inside the waste bin. The ministry of health and even the food manufacturer themselves knew very well that all these pack foods has a period or span in which it is safe to be eaten or to be consumed by human. Bacteria, ecoli and yeast and molds that are very harmful to human are possible to be present in these expired food. Not to mention the preservatives that is also present which also is expired has a detrimental effect in our body.
@jjangeles2068 There is a proper explanation rather than telling me na hindi maging mabuting ihimplo. Yes, back to basic, may i ask how many of the people you know don't suffer from hunger? Your explanation is right, but we know what we are doing, and country per country has different rules. Finland is very strict when it comes to food, health and safety thus, they are throwing these products that are nearly expire (not expired yet). Once the packaging of the product is damaged, it goes to waste, and that is mainly the reason why we are taking these items. If you are here in finland, i know you will have a better understanding of what i say because i have not heard any kababayan complain about what we do because they know it so well how it works here and that's mainly the reason why many of our fellow filipinos (nurses, doctors, militaries) are happily accepting these goods. We (yes, we because i consider myself as filipina) as filipinos we are very resourceful. As i always said in my vlogs, our saftey is our priority, we don't takw the food from the bins and eat them straight away. There is a proper sanitation and cooking process, just in case you are new to my channel.
