Hello. I'm discovering your channel with this video. Thank you, thank you, again and again! I don't know if other videos will be so clear but you got a new subscriber ❤
Love your playing! Whole tone is great sounding in jazz. Inspirational in modern classical too, Paul Jeanjean, Oliver Messian. Tension n release, Tension n release. Many thnks for a fine vid!
You're right about it being a very distinctive sound. The first example I think of is Squib Cakes when Lenny Pickett uses a whole tone scale starting on the minor third.
Very interesting, thanks! I was initially confused about what exactly triad pairs meant, but I now realise that, say in the C whole tone scale, the triad pairs are c-e-g# and d-f#-a#. (At least I hope that's what they are!!)
Thanks a lot for your lesson! it's really clear and simple! you expline very well! Thank you!
Dude, you're a great teacher. Love your work!!! Thank you.
For some reason I never thought to use triad pairs in the wholetone scale but it sounds so great! Thanks for the lesson
Thank you for teaching
You have one of the greatest teaching methods
Wow, that means a lot to me. Thanks so much!
@@nickmainella it's true. Keep these coming.. you don't know much it means to us.

FANTASTIC LESSON! And very useful!
Thanks a lot... easy to play triads as an exercise, but tough task to incorporate it in a tune
Awesome video Nick! Greets from Germany 🇩🇪 nice sound you have 👍🏻
🙏
great! take up nicks blues into my repertoire!
Hi Nick, great lesson. May I ask that you do a video on the 5th mode of harmonic minor? What it is and how to apply it.

You got it! 💪
@@nickmainella Thanks!
Nicely done. I've been trying to figure out how to work these sounds in to my playing so you've provided some good insights.

(Whole tone scale also found at the beginning of Stevie Wonder's "You are the Sunshine of My Life")
How about a D whole tone scale on the ii chord followed by the G whole tone on the V7? It could set up some interesting guide tone lines. Thanks!
🎉🎉🎉 bravo
Whole tone scale is like drugs-use it, but do not overuse it LOL thank you for a great lesson, well explained and well presented.
😂🤣🙌
What mouthpiece are you using?
Anybody know what mouthpiece Nick is using?
I think this one is the Mouthpiece Cafe Espresso 👍
@@nickmainella Thanks, Nick. I try checking it out.
What's the meaning of it, or the purpose of it in the context of a tune? I'm talking about a normal chord progression, with a key center, or tonic-
Great question. You can use this in a whole bunch of places. Maybe that’ll be the next video….
oh man, a Francois Louis lig... how long have you used that? (I like the idea of them, but man, they shift around a lot)
I've had it for a long, long time. I keep coming back to it for some reason..
Isn’t this basically the Oliver Nelson solo on Stolen Moments?
Lol
Should have a PDF for this with examples
