Few people deny the right for gays to have a civil union, thus granting them the rights of such a union. The Church needs to stay out of this and not bless those unions or claim that they are condoned in the Bible.
In 2019 it was the UMC, not the GMC.

Our church had a vote.....i was hoping that we would disaffiliate.....but nope....2/3rds voted to stay Methodists....so now i am debating leaving the congregation.....kinda sucks to leave a church you been going to since was a kid.
Find a traditional congregation near you and move. If you stay you are giving tacit support to the "liberals."
It may be time if 2/3 of your fellow parishners are desiring to go against basic biblical teaching. The church isn’t the building but it is the people. If the people are choosing to not follow God’s teachings and Tennants then it is time to shake the dust off of your sandles and find a local church that believes and teaches the Bible accurately. It’s tough but it’s the healthiest thing to do.
I've never understood why churches would relinquish their property to any denomination. The denomination needs to let the properties go for sale to it's home churches - well really they should just let them have the buildings, but that's not going to happen.

Either you adhere to the Bible or you don’t. We as Methodist people have never “excluded” anyone, but where the lines are being drawn is having LGBT individuals in leadership roles. This is not Biblical. Do you believe the Bible, or do you think you can just change what Old Testament and New Testament says about these behaviors? Nobody is perfect. We are not haters. But we believe the Bible is our moral compass. So sad this has split the church, and we are not alone in this fire. Other churches are going to see this division coming to their sanctuary too. Jesus help us all🙏✝️

LET THEM LEAVE. These rebellious churches which are ignoring what the Lord says about homosexuality are not suitable to be in good standing with the UMC.
By leaving, they are making it easier, and saving the UMC the hardship of expelling them from the denomination.
Tim, you got it backwards. The churches that are leaving support the Book of Discipline's stand against same-sex marriage. The churches that support same-sex marriage were given the path to leave the denomination back in 2019. They instead chose to stay and act against the denomination's rules. When the UMC leadership refused to hold the violators accountable and, in fact, supported the anti-traditionalists by appointing a practicing lesbian as a bishop, many traditional congregations felt their only recourse was to leave the UMC. There are many more congregations that would leave but are afraid or are being prevented from leaving by their bishops. The current UMC leadership will never expel a church for hosting a same-sex wedding or expel a pastor for being an active homosexual.
Tim, What do you feel the Bible teaches about homosexuality? Either you misunderstand the reason churches are leaving or you misunderstand the Bible.
