- What happens when two dynamic (and wildly entertaining) science educators come together to talk about evolution VS. creationism? This podcast answers the question. With Forrest Valkai and Erika / Gutsick Gibbon.
Every single day I learn something new. My frustration is that I am 70, have heart disease and I’m running out of time! There is still so much more to learn!! Great show, Seth.
Same here. So much to learn !
Yes, at 15, I thought I'd get several degrees, and know so much more, when it'd take almost a lifetime, on one specific field to know what there is to knoww about.
I understand what you mean. The one aspect of Christianity that excited me as a child, was the idea that even though so many discoveries would be made and questions answered long after I was gone, I’d still get to watch from heaven. It’s hard to grapple with feeling like we don’t have enough to learn everything.
You cant learn everything there is to learn in life, BUT you can learn about the One who made life possible!
@@nash984954 Have you learned there is a "Creator"?
This video is pure gold. Forrest and Erika are a true dynamic duo.
Absofreakinglutely! ❤️❤️
From the moment I saw them both on the thumbnail I knew that this video was going to be a blast!
Two of my favorite science (specially biology) communicators in a single video, how much more can I ask for?
It was really good. Science but not pedantic or speaking over the audience.
“Pure gold” indeed.
Their enthusiasm is contagious!! They are humble and so down-to-earth, while being so knowledgeable they both are also unpretentious. You know they are passionate about what they study and just want to share it.
I’m a 56 year old man with no formal education or diploma. Thank you both for opening my eyes to the world of science. For that; I will be the best student that I can and I will always make sure that the knowledge that I pass on to others, is the most correct to what I understand at that time to be and to encourage everyone to do the same.
Forrest and Erika both have so many characteristics I find attractive and fun! They are intelligent, knowledgeable, nerdy, and passionate. They seem like they'd be a blast to hang out with and just talk for hours. Listening to this conversation just puts a smile on my face. Thanks to everyone involved!
NOT knowing is so much fun, because you can learn.
Accepting nothing in the universe is perfect, and that means that there is the potential to make things BETTER, that this is something POSITIVE, is what many christians go not get.
While it is in their Bible... "We are all sinners" literally means we are imperfect, and we should not try to be God, means we should not think we can ever be as perfect as God.
And divine perfection is nothing positive - something perfect can never change, or it would not have been perfect. But life is change, constant change. Perfection is dead.
But these fundamentalist christian think once they are saved, they have committed themselves to God, God's perfection rubs off onto them, God's perfect word makes them RIGHT in everything. They do not have to know WHAT it is, do not have to know anything about anything, but they OWN the truth, morality, logic, meaning of life. That feeling is enough for them
That feeling is tempting. Will a woman who is told she is beautiful ask "tell me how it can be that the wrinkles on my stretched elbow indicating I am over 40 are beautiful" and want to find out every detail? We all have areas where we dig not too deep.
But we have our nerdy areas where we delight in finding out, knowing a little more, finding structures in seeming chaos, and so on.
I have the impression that the US has myths that are considered as essential for the US identity that nurture the willingness to be incurious.
The standard hero pattern is one who acts on his gut feeling, that is always right, while the institutions and laws are notoriously too weak, too stupid, the laws are dysfunctional.
So it is the lone wolf hero that takes his .45 and blows the brains out of the evil villain's head in total self-justice - and gets away with it and gets the girl.
Goes along with the myth of frontier mentality, you are out there alone, no one can help you.
A real hero is persuaded he is right, does not question himself, allows no challenges of his convictionb, and does not change his mind. And is right.
The standard Hollywood script has no time for that. With diminishing education the plots must become simpler. No room for thought, mere entertainment for 2 hours that can be discarded immediately, have, (aalmost) no relevance for everyday life - until people start to lose the distinction between reality and fiction.
And that happens in parallel - reality TV almost looks as everyday life, but is completely scripted. The documentary channels appear to provide factual information, but to fill the time, all kinds of flashy conspiracy nonsense is intermingled, that is more entertaining, more interesting, better produced than nerdy facts, and there is no warning given, it is presented as if it is of the same quality as what the Forrest and Eriika say.
Should you have read this far, am I totally wrong that there is a huge complex system with many interacting parameters, way more far-fetched than one might think?
I do not think there is a grand conspiracy, it is simply stuff that evolved in a certain direction. And now is in danger of running away, getting out of control, running into a self-destructive dead end of societal evolution.
@@feedingravens you blunder on and it seems like you're typing to hear the clickity clack. What do you mean not knowing is fun. If you had any type of science class this should be familiar and not start from "nothing." The quest for knowledge is the fun thing, when you find it, that is.
I don't get what you're saying when you say make things better. Or positive. These terms are to open to interpretation. You shouldn't bash the christians for being ignorant and tricked. Definitely don't come to an atheist venue and do that. We aren't them and we don't hate them. We laugh at them sure but, your attitude toward them reads as if you think you're better than them but starts with "not knowing is so fun?" Be a christian if you want to belittle someone, they have a whole book of rules you can yell at people and try to control. Even some misogyny to exhibit just at your leisure.
Back to the point, atheist doesn't mean ass hole. It's no reason to think you're better than others.
@@feedingravens Whoa Nelly!!!! But the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know. The learning never stops. 😉
@@joeanthony7759 Realizing this you are on the right side of the Dunning-Krueger diagram.
I just got a flat earther who is trying to persuade me. Totally convinced he is woke, understands the Great Conspiracy, that all lie and he knows, that he does the right science, that they are millions.
Yep yep yep
Erika is such an eloquent and passionate educator! More sessions like these please!
I need a gal like Erica in my life. She's the real deal!
Gutsick gibbon if you want to see more of her work
She does not believe in God man. She is young. Hopfully she will turn to God.
@@wendelljenkinsjr9793so, you want an extremely intelligent, educated, & logical person to believe the same stupid, baseless myths as yourself...
@@wendelljenkinsjr9793 - Don't start in and ruin what is a great vibe. Proselytize elsewhere.
The cool part to me is that while one is speaking, if they pan to the other, they're smiling. They're just enjoying hearing each other speak passionately about what they're passionate about.
This belongs in the “Best if the Thinking Atheist “ playlist. I effing loved this one!
"best if" wordplay or typo?
@@Noromdiputs I think it's called a Sethian slip
Seth is lucky he wasn't stuck in this interview for hours and hours.
Both Erica & Forrest were hosting a Line episode and they just kept that show going for hours. And yet, both are so knowledgeable and passionate about their fields that they were always interesting to watch.
Is there a link??
He'd be lucky to be in the room with them for that long.. we all could benefit from that!
Or the one with Forrest and Aron. Over 7 hours.
@@xaayer Here's their episode
ua-cam.com/users/liveBiMhQ5Yuuwc?feature=share
Over 7 hours.
It's Forest Valkai, Gutsick Gibbon and Aron Ra if I'm not mistaken.
Also look up Forest Valkai's video 'A Brief History of Everything' if you want a long 3-4 hour live (it was live) class type teaching on science from the big bang to humans
I just love listening to intelligent people talk in ways that I can only dream of replicating. Thank you for this, thoroughly enjoyable. :D
Oh my, three giants having an interesting conversation for more than an hour … I want more of this kind. Love it!
Forrest, Erika, Dapper, Dr. Dan, Dr. Joel, Jackson Wheat, etc. Are becoming a monolith of science communication. I love watching them because they are more in depth and scientific than the last generation like Aron Ra and friends. It's overwhelming but I can't get enough of science
I could not agree with you more
Well, the reason for that, in part, is because some of them, like Forrest, are actual scientists and not just enthusiasts. Aron only got his degree in 2022 and is not a professional researcher.
It's only listening to Aron Ra for years that allows me to keep up with Forest and Erika.
@@diehard7517 Yet Ra is still a great teacher for a newbie.
@@joeanthony7759 I'm not saying he is not, just that it's not surprising that an actual scientist would have more knowledge than someone who doesn't study a subject professionally.
Seth, Forrest and Erika! This was, is, fantastic!! You guys made it so fun. Just, WOW. Thankyou all! 👍💖💙🥰✌
Erika at ~54:08 "Your hypothesis has been taken behind the barn and shot!" ...I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seth Thank you for having both of these guests on together!!!! They are great science communicators and their enthusiasm about science and learning is most definitely contagious.
41:44 "Science predicts, and Creationism accommodates." Erica/Gutsick Gibbon - my favorite quote of 2023. Forrest Valkai is AWESOME! Seth Andrews, your podcasts are my goto for sanity. Thank you! ❤
I could listen to these 3 talk all day, every day.
My hypothesis is that combining three of my favorite UA-camrs will be very entertaining. This show has failed to disprove that.
Gutsick Gibbon is incredible! The two of them are an amazing pair. I wish more science teachers showed this kind of enthusiasm.
I’ve been a science guts for 50 year, I was a science teaching for 30 years🧐, and these young guys are to best people to listen to understand so many things to consider to take on the creation bull shit that are trying to take over in the science class! Go Forrest and go Erica!! Seth is a great person to help us also!❤😃😤✌🏾✌🏾👍
You’re free to believe whatever you want . God still calls you like a patient father. That thing inside you that makes you uncomfortable, that will bring you to God’s truth. Unless you continue to ignore it , hoping it will go away. It won’t. Like a painting has a painter/ creation has a creator.
@@aneyesky What crap you’re talking about. There no evidence to support any thing you say about your god. I don’t ‘believe’, but I am ‘free’ to understand that your god is make up by people that need something more that great science has done for all. Please not wait for me to listen more of you’re bull crap. Bye poor person.😂😂😂🧐👿
Throw out the belief bath water and you'll see there is no creator there. Lmao

Two of my favorite young science education heroes, and one of my favorite commentators. I am in heaven (figuratively speaking)! Thanks Erika and Forrest and Seth for bringing this to us, and keep up the good work.
Can't wait to see their careers in 20 to 30 years time and how it evolves to counter lunacy.
Very exciting times we live in
2 of my favourite youtubers in one place. forrest the science teacher i wish i had back in the 80s and erika the smart young women i would be proud to call my daughter if i had one. just started watching but this should be great.
AMAZING!! I could watch Forrest and Erica in discussion for hours!
I love listening to all three of these guys. Having them together in one video is awesome.
This is one of the BEST videos I have ever truly experienced! Their enthusiasm and wonderment in LEARNING and TEACHING is so infectious! Thank you, Seth, for giving us this experience! I'd love to see a "Part Two" and more! A truly fascinating conversation!!
Thank you Seth for bringing us this absolute pleasure. The love for finding things out, that Erika and Forrest express so enthusiastically, was what compelled me to get myself no fewer than four academic degrees, which I still have not decided what to do with since there is still so much to learn!
I remember a couple of years ago I thought that perhaps Forrest and Erica would make a great science communicators team, but then I thought, perhaps not, because each likes to talk a lot. Yet, here they are, and they communicate just fine. 🙂
So, I will just throw it out, another dream that I wish comes true: we really need such likeable, nerdy, infectious, super motivating communicators to get our children more interested in science!!!
These two are just emanating glorious science folks and I looooove it...
This is a profoundly intelligent , coherent and illuminating conversation by the panel that fit the role to discuss these subjects intelligently ! They are the new enlightment safeguardians of our planet , civilization and all life on our world ! People like this are sorely needed as teachers and communicators to raise our consciousness to save us from the beliefs of bronze age superstitious nonsense !
3 of my favorite people feeding off each other's enthusiasm and energy: Heaven ! 😍
Forrest and Erika make a deadly One-Two punch against creationism.
What an outstanding episode! I love watching these young and enthusiastic scientists just exude their passion and knowledge. I will be watching them for a long time because they encourage me to continue learning even if I am an old man.
These are two of my favorite evolution centric youtubers right now and i love seeing them come together for a video
There is not a "Like" button big enough or loud enough for this video. Thanks for this amazing meeting of the minds, Seth!
I don’t know how I missed this, but seeing two of my favorite creators together with one of my favorite hosts did not disappoint!
How did I miss this conversation 7 months ago???? What a power team to have in the same room at the same time talking about evolution!👏👏
These 2 science educators work so well together. Amazingly, they don't talk over each other or monopolize the talk. I absolutely love both of these people. I hope things only get better for them. We will be the ones to benefit the most 😉
They are so midwest. Seth and Forest are from the same town and Erica is only 2 hours away.
Seth: Tulsa Oklahoma
Forrest: Tulsa Oklahoma
Erica: Indiana/Arkansas (Fayetteville) (or at least Fayetteville is where she went to college and her husband and his business resides)
@@whatabouttheearth Both of those states are in the South. It really comes through in their atheist activism, especially Seth and Forrest. It's so much worse here than in the Midwest. Believe me . I've lived in both the Midwest and the South.
Oklahoma is in the bottom 5 states in quality of education, and you can't turn around without seeing another news story about some ridiculous, bigoted piece of legislation put forth by one of our uneducated, ultra religious state representatives. Arkansas is almost as bad. We are among the top 5 in the ratio of churches per person. Forrest is extremely brave, putting forth his scientific and anti-religious views. I don't know for sure, but it's quite likely that he has received threats of violence stemming from them. I know Seth has.
My point is that this is an important part of what I see in them and why I like them so much. They make me happy to watch because they are both so happy in what they do despite the negative attitudes towards what the do that so many of the people where they came from possess. I know because I face it everyday myself.
Sorry I jumped on you like this. I don't want you to feel attacked. It's just that it's so exciting to watch such wonderful ideas come from people whose struggle is fully made worse by those around them.
Also, Seth and Forrest are actually from different places. This important because it makes a difference in their environments. Seth is from Tulsa, which is a big city where some small pockets of liberalism do exist. Forrest is from a small town outside of Tulsa where they definitely don't.
@@Irisarc1
Oklahoma and the Ozarks aren't really the south. I live in the Ozarks, it's not the south, although it has some elements that are simmilar to the south. Tulsa especially isn't the south and Fayetteville Arkansas where GG went to school and where her husband is from, and where his business is, is in a pocket of north west Arkansas that's a bit different than the rest of Arkansas with places like Eureka Springs, it's a very rainbow flag liberal place.
Forest is a quintessential Midwest boy. He works at University of Oklahoma Tulsa also. There are alot of non conservative evangelical people in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. The mannerisms and style of all three of them is Midwestern.
@@Irisarc1
Fun fact, 'Tulsa' is 'a slut' backwards.
These 2 need to be everywhere. What amazing synergy! Thanks Seth!
Amazingly awesome interview with Forrest and Erica. Watch both their channels and always got such great information. Thanks guys and gal!
Thank you for this marvelous discussion! Three highly intelligent humans discussing interesting scientific history and scientific ideas using facts and humor.
Straight perfection of a back and forth conversation. Thank you for just asking a simple question and letting just spew out information.
Love how excited Forrest gets about the workings of nature. I am the same. It's inspiring to see folks passionate about the planet we inhabitants and not only as observers, but also participants.
Forrest - I can’t be wrong and Erika - I’m never wrong because I take my time to to think, with Mr Andrews. Almost perfect episode.
Awesome Show! Thank you Erika, Forest & Seth! Was truly a treat!
Wow! Forrest and Erika are absolutely dynamite together. They way they interact as they provide an avalanche of fascinating information is astonishing.
I don't know that all the teachers of science and biology I ever had through school, put together, were even half as informed, and informative, as these two dynamos. Amazing!
Consider this a petition to get Forrest and Erika to have a gorram daily podcast. Damn they're magic together
This is like a dream: three of my most favourite people in the same room, talking about a fascinating subject…. Thanks, Seth, Erika and Forrest, more like this, please!
Thats one of the best videos ever. Love the passion of those 2 and always learn something from them while being entertained .need more of them both together. Thanks
I could watch the both of them for hours and hours. I love them
i was right now i get to the end of this video, these two together were amazing. wish we could clone these two and make them the science teachers for so many young kids. if forrest had of been my science teacher in the 80s i would have paid so much more attention.
I was so excited when I saw the title and am not disappointed.
Despite my earlier joking comment, this is the best video lately.
I wasn't joking earlier. Hit me up Forrest, Erica, and Seth
"Get us a white board, bro. See what happens," while striking his fist is peak Forrest.
Love both of these scientists. Thanks for this great interview.
Since discovering Erika about a week ago, this has been my dream team! Very happy to see a video like this.
Two of my favorite humans *ever*. You're not so bad yourself Seth. Thanks for sitting them down together; I'm late to the party but I'm here forr it!
It is about time you got some of Forrest and Erika on your show too. Lol.
wow! Forrest, i think you have met your match. this was so fantastic to watch. I hope to see the two of you again. a jaw doping match of well educated, enlightened intellect. please do it again.

And with the company of the fabulous Erika and the brilliant Forrest ... Both in the top 5 scientist knowledge diffuser

I just watched one of her videos this morning and literally thought..... wonder what a conversation between these two would look like..... this is amazing
Hey, sorry to resurrect this nearly a year later, but go to Erikas channel, where you will find a video of Forrest and her talking for like 7 hours.🎉😂
That was brilliant. Can't wait for round 2.
Seth, you have put together several memorable videos. But this one has to be one of the best. My hats off to your guests, but also to the impeccable editing. Thank you!
Superb video. We are just beginning to learn about the complicated mechanisms involved in evolving complexity in living things. This knowledge will increase, but never will we find this route unfeasible or in error.
Great work Seth, Forrest and Erika.
Love this vid !!
Forest is Truly awesome, Seth is the Man, & so nice to encounter Erika.
Great format, great conversation.
Thanks Seth.
Ok, I’m 70 years old and am in excellent health. At 12 minutes in, I’m challenged to go for a PhD. I could have done so once, but my newborn son’s needs argued otherwise. Now that he and his siblings are successful, why not?
I won’t, but only because I have focused my interests in other directions. But the desire to contribute remains!
I absolutely love this content.
I'm a little upset that neither Forrest nor Erica has responded to my numerous requests for an amorous biology lesson. No love lost
Epic collaboration, thanks for making this happen Seth
Omg! What a fanominal show!!! All my favorite people! Thank you.
I really like this format.
What a wonderful and spirited discussion. I wish I had been there just to sit on the floor in the corner.
wow ... just wow. This was such a great video! I learn so much from Forrest and now Erica too. I'll be watching this one a few more times
That was truly refreshing. I do not nomarly watch over 30min videos, but this duo is irresistable interesting. Thank you for having a great convo on our behalf, inspired all the way from South Africa.
Having Seth here to interview is wonderful, because if he wasnt, Forest and Erica would talk miles over my head lmao. Its nice to have someone to bring them back down to earth from time to time
My 60th birthday party (in a couple of years) would be epic if these two could sit for a couple of hours and just talk. I would be enthralled...especially when Erika breaks out her morphological descriptions of older hominids....geeky I know but this is my jam.
That was amazing! The host has perfect voice and personality, Forrest is fun, full of energy and knowledge, and I’m just smitten with Erika! Intelligent, beautiful and funny! I could listen\watch these 3 all day!

That being said, I think it is important to mention that there is significant crossover in the ID crowd between Abrahamic religion adherents and Hindu ID proponents.
This was a great science class. I learned a lot.
I didn't want this video to end, but sadly it ended. My brain now hurts but in a good way. Two very smart people.
19:30 this is... AMAAAAZING! 😁 I'm absolutely saving this. I knew this trio wouldn't fail to impress, but this is encouraging AND encyclopedic!
"The issue of that is my favorite that I talk about all the time" I KNEW she was going to mention the heat problem.
You guys are awesome! You must carry on with these videos if only for the sake of children.
Children are being force fed religious nonsense, the religion doesn't matter, it's the fact that they are missing the truth. Keep going! 💗🌏
We need a part 2, 3... Etc. Amazing conversation.
Erika's comments at 54:00 need to be stand alone clip. I could not explain this myself, yet. Will probably be able to after watching 4 or 5 more times. But this is critical. This is useful for discussion. It all is, but this makes for a concise argument.
Wow! Possibly my favourite You Tube video.
I already love all three of them but this was the best single explanation of evolution and science in general that I have ever seen. Their enthusiasm is infectious, their knowledge comprehensive and their erudition impressive.
These three people are so.. smart... energizied,....interesting,...... involved............, they need to tour!
The cross over event we've all been waiting for.
Great video! Part 2? Yes, please!
Maybe these interviews can be made into a sort of documentary. A “documentary kind”. A guide for the recently deconverted & those who deconverted but haven’t yet found answers to the questions they weren’t allowed to ask or even knew to ask.
This was absolutely one of my favorite videos I've seen in a long time!
Learning does not need to be fun. It must be engaging!
Forrest what you said about seeing the magic of biology. I have literally almost said the same thing word for word about the view above. Space to me and all it's mystery and unanswered questions is absolute magic! Thank you both very much for this video.
This makes my day.
These two are awesome. I wish we could copy them and put Forrest and Erika clones in every school system to teach.
Two wonderful evolutionary science communicators, sharing the joy of learning with each other and with us. Thank you.
I absolutely _loved_ listening to the two of them break down, "You're a..." layer-by-layer; I even laughed out loud (literally) several times because I was enjoying it so much.
Irreducible Complexity: "You can't just start yanking blocks out of the pyramids and still have them remain structurally sound." True, but you can remove blocks, one by one, from the top _downward_ and still have a functional _building_ well into the deconstruction project. For that matter, a car without an engine can still be a carriage, a wagon, a greenhouse...
As for Intelligent Design in general, it arrogantly presents Man as the apex of _creation,_ utterly ignoring the fact that...for _any_ of the primary senses...human are _not_ the _best_ examples.
Thank you so much for this video. Having two of my favorite UA-cam science educators in the same conversation _with you_ has been a truly joyful experience!
Great interview and discussion. Thanks!
What an awesome gathering of intellectual discussion.
