aah this video made my day!! Looked up Tweetsie for my 2 year old son. We're going back home to the mountains soon to visit family and will be going to Tweetsie for sure!! This brings back so many wonderful memories, esspecially that ghostly whistle. I grew up 20 miles from blowing rock and on clear days could still hear that whistle echoing through the mountains...went to tweetsie as a kid and i'm nearly 30 now. so glad the is still around to share with my son....
Nothing like hearing either locomotive charge up the hill inbetween the "frontier outpost" and "fort boone". Ive had a few cabrides as well and always enjoy that part of the trip the best.
I remember riding Tweetsie as a kid. Having the Indians attach the train, running thru the cars trying to scalp the kids!! Now if you really want me to date myself... We were rescued by Fred Kirby!! How's that for a trip down memory lane!! LOL!! Took my kids thru there years later, still a great adventure.
in july of 1969 I was 8 years old and my famliy and I were carnies. we had set up our carnival in a field beside the road at the base of the mountain where you could here and see tweetsie going up the mountain and at that time there was a castle where the rides were and a huge sleeping giant inside the castle. this was the week that Armstrong set foot on the moon.
I have two questions? 1. How do you get your film from the coaches to be so smooth? 2. Did you tape all the behind the scene shots during railfan weekend, or after?
Yea, they can be dangerous. Been around them enough to know that, plus they can be really quite suprisingly and just pop out of no where. Seen that a few times while railfanning.

I get permission for anything I shoot. Always okay it before going trackside! Trains are fun but are also dangerous.

I see, my bad. Should have watched the whole video first.
They don't always have it on. They usually have it on coming back into town and leaving town.

My last question is, how did you get behind the scenes shots? Did you ask for persmission or just do it?
Are they going to rebuild that depot and shop that burnt down soon?
