This was one of the first dances that I learned as a kid. It was easy to learn, as I cannot dance (thus disproving the myth that all Black ppl can dance 😝😝😝). In 1984, my teacher in elementary school taught us to do this dance and we had to perform it for a school talent show. It was fun! This video brought back warm memories. Thanks for posting!
Glad to hear your story. I firmly believe everyone can dance. In my classes, ppl who initially don't believe in themselves end up dancing and enjoying themselves. Cheers!
@@HiRumblePie No. It was Ms. C in the Bronx! Yup! That was a few years before my folks left NYC. Listen at me chiming in as if you’re talking to me 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm taking physical therapy. My PT has me doing kicks to the sides, knee raises, kicks to the front, 2 sets of ten for each exercise on each leg, then when she said to do kicks to the back, I realized, hey, this is like the Alley Cat! She had never heard of it, so I used this video to show her, and she now says that at my next session she'll have it on the TV so I can do the dance to the music. :D I really love the lady in the white shirt's energy!
Glad to know the video helps. Who knows if someone doing physical therapy may have originated this dance. Now it's both fun and therapeutic. Thanks for sharing.
We used to do this in the Catskills in NY back in the 60s. It was a competitive dance. It would start out slow and get faster and faster. When a dancer couldn't keep up, he dropped out. The dance continued until only one dancer was left or the band could not play any faster. Other than the clap, I don't remember any hand or arm movements other than to help with your balance.
I came here because I'm reading a book and they mention the Alley Cat dance and I was curious what it was. Thank you for posting this! Looks like a fun dance! :)
Can anyone tell me what the exact version of this song is? I've searched it on Spotify but its only really bad versions. This version is the perfect line dance version with speed up.
I remember doing this dance for a school awards assembly. It was fun. Very nice video upload! Thanks!
We did this as children growing up in Cape Cod at the Chatham Band Concerts every Friday night. Lots of fun! ❤

I came here because my elementary school teacher taught us this in 1986. You don't happen to be talking about Mrs. S. in NY, do you?😮😀

@@bbblyssI’d take your classes. I was reading some of the comments and they touch home. Your vids are nice!
Use to do it at wedding receptions.
we used to do this at the roller rink along with the hokey pokey. so much fun.
Every generation should know this...from 3 to 103. And there needs to be just ONE guy who wants to join in.
You're right! It's fun dance for everyone. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. It has evolved into a fun party dance which everyone can enjoy.
We also did this at Dwarkins Bungalow colony in the Catskills, NY in the sixties! We did this at every wedding and Bar Mitzvah we went to!
In Australia this is called the Nutbush and we learn it at school

Thanks. It's a fun dance, indeed!
There are LOTS of different versions. This is my favorite.
I like the dance. I’m thinking about learning it when I’m back on my feet. I like the song too.
Have fun!
It's perfect for weddings to get all ages up on the dance floor.....unless your daughter puts it on the "DO NOT PLAY" band list.
That's how it originated.
Seems like this would be a good exercise routine.
I use it as a warm-up before doing yard work.
I wonder if the lady in the lavender pants is single. Well, probably not.
👋👋👋
you have to say "Me yow" when you clap
no rompas mas ... version Alley Cat jajaja
Happy hoofers.
Thanks.

Hi! I need this exact version. Do you know how I can get it?! TIA!
Canción del carrito de los helados
But I’m a slow dancer.
Take it slow.
Not quite the way we did it!
😅😅😅
Amazing that they found this worth doing and then actually did a video and posted it. Just about the worst piece of music ever.
😛😏🤥
your memories do not include this wonderful line dance. you don't have to like it. no one asked you. 😏
