Is the Ricoh GRIII a camera you would consider for street photography? Do you already have it, or do you have an alternative instead? Let me know!Thanks for watching, guys!🙏😊
Henri Cartier-Bresson was once famously quoted for stating 'sharpness is an overrated concept'. He was right. For that very reason, I don't get hung up on sharpness, or 'pixel peeping' as it is otherwise known as. A photograph should be able to portray emotion, and so sharpness is unimportant. My GR is from 2012. It is the Digital IV model with the tiny CCD sensor. The GRD IV is an excellent alternative to the latest GR3/x because of its 'inexpensive' price. I put 'inexpensive' in quotes because for around £300 it's still quite an expensive camera. But if you can shoot with a GRDIV, and still produce good images (lens still as sharp as the 24mp APS-C version), you will excel at GR street photography when you finally can afford to upgrade to the latest. If you cannot afford a GR, then my other go-to camera is the Olympus Pen range. My Olympus E-PM2 is the exact same size as the GRDIV (and the GRII), but it can be purchased for far less - mine was £35. Paired with a Lumix 14mm f2.4, the Olympus is a fantastic alternative, which can take not only interchangeable lenses, but also a decent EVF and is still pocketable.
@@tomfenn7149 Thank you for the very insightful comment Tom. To be honest I wasn't aware of the capabilities of the GRD IV. I had a look at it and I am very surprised with how similar it is -design wise - with the contemporary models. Maybe I will look into it for a future video. Now, the Olympus might be an easy option to test in the channel because it is really inexpensive this way. I will be diving into micro 4/3 cameras in a series down the line. @@AristeidisSfakianos don't expect too much out of the GRD, after all it is over 10 years old. But it's a nice more inexpensive alternative if you cannot stretch to a GR. That said, and no matter how much I love my little GRD for its size and quietness, I still think m43 cameras are more a bargain. Certainly more versatile.
i am using an old ricoh GRD3 every day, and i love the thing. got it for less than $200 on ebay from a japanese photographer who said he had like 5 ricoh cameras and was paring down, haha. great ergonomics, great images, easy to use. the daido moriyama endorsement is also a plus, haha.
I am thinking of bringing older models in the channel at under $200 as a challenge to show that, in reality, gear has little impact on what you create. The most important bit is to be a le to see the good compositions. So the GRD3 is one of the candidates if I can find a good one. I didn't know about the Daido Moriyama endorsement. Good stuff! Haha! How do you find the experience with it?
I've been shooting the GRii for years now. I've taken incredible shots with it, even wonderful landscapes and have even exhibited these prints in galleries in pretty large (A3) size. I'm in love with my GR. The balance of portability high-quality imagery is unrivaled. And, yes, I usually keep it in my pocket, too.

Excellent video Aristeidis (and some great images) for those thinking about purchasing the Ricoh GR. It’s one of the best I’ve seen, being honest, balanced and objective. I’ve had the GRiiiX for a few months now and very pleased with it. Although it doesn’t have a tilting screen, it’s wide enough (especially the standard 28 model) to “Shoot From The Hip” and sufficient resolution to crop. Regarding the battery, it is small….but that is what makes the camera pocketable and I’ve found the best way to preserve battery life is to leave it turned on (when actively taking pictures) so the lens is going in and out constantly. This also minimises the risk of dust ingress. I find this way I can shoot over 300 images. Also, at the same time, I press the Display button a few times (to turn it off) this makes it more discreet, saves battery and reduces the temptation to “Chimp” - I’m looking forward to the focus video and have subscribed :- ) - Thanks - Peter.

Nice videos - I have the GRIIIx and love it. I find the autofocus slow and often inaccurate compared to my Olympus and OM Systems gear but the image quality is great when it gets it right. I use it for street and landscape work .
I use point auto focus in Ricoh because the wide focusing options, generally, are not my style. I like having control over it. So, I mitigate this problem. But compared to my Sonys, for example, it is definitely less accurate. But you also get to have it in your pocket. You lose something, you gain something, I guess. I am glad you liked the video, Ken!
Gr series especially the grx is my favs need to get one these for the streets.35 N 40mm are my focals for street ATM .being binge watching your content new subs..the reason I love the Ricoh is for the ibis for night photography and my shaky hands..have a great day my friend
Nice one, mate! If you are serious about street photography the Ricoh is a really good one to consider. The IBIS does help. Sounds like the IIIx might be the one you would look for. I bought the Ricoh GRIIIx today on Amazon and now I have to wait for it 2 weeks, so Im watching all the Ricoh GRIIIx videos on UA-cam Im very exited haha
I have just started to learn Photo as Hobby (like 5 months ago) and I have a Nikon z30, is amazing, But very often I can't take it with me because is too big, so I decided to buy the Ricoh GRIIIx, I hope I made the right decision, I'm very excited to start taking pictures with it
I know the feeling. I was like that in the beginning too! :D Di you receive your Ricoh yet? Although I have other, quite powerful cameras, Ricoh is one of my top ones as I love carrying it around with me and using it. It is just so good!
It's a nice camera although a bit pricey. My go to compact camera I use is a Sony RX-100 which is just superb. I looked at M4/3 as well but found some nasty surprises. Panasonic GX-80 has a superb spec, nice and compact with a viewfinder, but I went to my local shop to try it out and it feels like a brick in the hand - far too heavy for it's size. Panasonic G100 is another one that's considered but prices don't seem to be falling for this compact beast.
Some very nice piece of info here Sat. I didn't speak about the RX-100 in this video, but it is a direct competitor of the Ricoh for sure. Maybe if I get my hands on one, I could do a comparison video on the future. I think in the used market prices will go up because demand is rising and you can't find many of those around. Street photography has become quite popular recently.
Try canon m50 if looking for weight friend

this is an older video, but i will say, on earlier firmware the X did get a little toasty. but it got better after a few firmware updates. if you get a gr, go online and check the firmware 👍🏻

If your friends in the US think a meter is the same as a foot they are in trouble! (3.2 feet in a meter so 5 meters would be 16 feet)
