The Underbelly Project - Walk Through - Art in the Streets - MOCAtv - Ep 19

- In 2009 the Underbelly Project project began four stories underneath the skin of New York.
For 100 years, a massive subway station sat unfinished, unused, undiscovered.
Over the course of a year, artists were secretly escorted into that station to leave their creative mark.
Unobstructed by the pressures of commercial sales, email or daily routines, each artist painted for one full night.
The original entrance has since been removed and darkness has reclaimed the station. It has become an elusive pirate treasure of contemporary art.

I found the entrance today. I went up and found a vandlesquad flashlight. While going up I dropped a personal item out of my pockets and I went back down to retrieve getting my item back. When I went down there was 2 undercover policemen waiting for me trying to arrest me.
where was this? Do you know the address to this?
if u want to enter the under belly from outside, the permanent 2 sided closed gates is across the street from the 90th pricent! the gate is on south 5th, & union ave crossing montrose ave! the 2 sided gates is narrow as if it was a train station entery
Wym 2 sided gate?

To see this with my own two eyes has been a dream of mine for nearly 2 years... loud sigh
I've known about this since the year it happened and honestly should've went the first year when it was still unknown and untouched.
I went today but I think it was blocked off by really big metal sliding doors and were locked.

@@tunisiead7887 You tryna go there again?
@@tunisiead7887 howd u get there?
Wow..if I ever get the chance I will go see that subway
I would like to state, that station was not constructed 100 years ago. The IND announced in 1929 the a second system of trackage would be constructed to connect the existing trackage already in service. The station that the Underbelly is was a major express station of 6 tracks and 4 platforms. They halted construction due to the 1929 stock market crash from a lack of funds, later deciding to not continue the second system.
Hey D. Where was the original entrance to this station?
I heard that it got closed off recently.
I had heard that this was the "South 4th St." station, and this was the history behind that before artists started painting in 2009: "Beneath Williamsburg’s South 4th St lies a six-track station that was once intended to be a major point of transfer for the IND Second System. When its construction was halted by World War II, it was left without through tunnels or lighting, its stairwell and poured concrete walls unfinished. But in 2009, the station was brought back to life when street artists PAC and Workhorse invited 103 peers from around the world to adorn the space with their own creations."
When people find this in 100 years from now they will say wow this is what life was like in 2009 one big acid trip!
Sad that it no longer can be visited
That's right above the Broadway Train station where the G Train stops at
i been there recently. ppl been fucking up the art a bit but most of its fine. theres alot of dust so if you go there make sure to wear a mask. also the location is undisclosed but it isnt to hard to find yourself. no ones going to give u the loco. no one gave it to me n it took me a few days of research and a few failed attempts
can you lmk how to get inside
