- The chrome waste and overflow part that fits into the sink can be a tricky one, but here is how to renew it. It is also nice if you just want to change your old tarnished one for a new chrome one. For parts like this visit my Amazon shop here on this link. www.amazon.co.u...

Many thanks Al.
Followed this vid and turns out just cleaning the silicone and waste and putting it back did the job, saved a plumber call-out! Brilliant, thank you.
Great job!
Brilliant video I thought I had to replace the plug. But ended up replacing the sink waste unit. Absolute life saver 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
No problem Paul.
Most helpful vid on this in my humble, beginners opinion. Got it right, first time 👌🏽🤞🏽
Great to hear!
Didn't even know could replace a sink waste! Thanks Al and Jan.
No problem flickafy.
Thank-you so much for this video - i thought i would need to call a plumber to replace my sink easte, but after watching your easy to follow instructions, i was able to fit it myself and save money. Invaluable video!
You're welcome!
Showed my husband, we had no idea you could change it (or hadn’t thought of it) he will be following your instructions tomorrow haha :)
Good luck Lyndsay.
Great as always, you give people the confidence to takle these jobs!! Brilliant
Thanks Lee.
Brilliant, as usual. Thank you for the instructions. Peace be unto you.
No problem 😊
I finally managed to do this. I used a pair of pliers in the end to undo the nut. Fixed the new one and cleaned the u bend and it’s working perfectly now 👌😃
Excellent!
Another great video! I watched it, I bought the kit, I done the job! Thanks!
Nice work!
Thank you very much. Great video. Saved me from a flooded kitchen cupboard 👍🙂
Excellent!
Good job Al 👍
Thanks PB.
very easy to understand. Now i know what to do. Thanks
No problem
Absolute hero - this video was great, thank you so much!!
No problem
Thanks for the tutorial!
No problem!
Thanks for the vid!
I didn't know the middle of the drainage was a threaded bolt. I just thought because of age I can't unscrew it underneath - just gotta pop out now and buy the new parts :-)
Right on
A great tip is the sharp edge of either of your removable plugs are what you use to tighten the centre screw.
Your welcome!
(I only found out a year ago 😂)
No coins needed👍🏼
Thanks for the info!
Brilliant - really comprehensive!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent Thank you.
No problem.
Thanks for the video, handy to know it can be changed thanks
No problem Shane.
What do you do when you find the new waste is 10mm too short or long and won't properly match the current trap? :)
Extend the waste with a coupling if short or cut back the waste pipe if it is too long.
I saw somewhere that you a ring of plumbers mait on the top (sink side) fitting. Do you need this or should the supplied washers do the trick?
I prefer the plumbers mait.
@@dereton33 Did you just use the foam washer for the purpose of this video then? I was expecting to see you whack out your favourite tool and put some mait on it!
Great video. Can I put a bead of plumbers gold before putting the washer and silver cap into the sink? Thank you.
Yes you can!
@@dereton33 thank you very much 👍🏽
Thanks for this 👍
No problem 👍
We're putting a new sink in today. Our waste has just one big washer, so should I use silicone as another washer?
No just plumbers mait.
Do i need to use silicone when installing a new one?
You can but they usually come with washers. I always use plumbers mait over silicone any day.
Where can I order the wide screwdriver? Went to Screwfix and they were all too small 😔
Amazon is best Jim.
Could you kindly link me a suitable product? Struggling a lot to find what will work
Didn’t have the big screwdriver to get in the top, will have to order one
Ok.
Has it stayed sealed or have you had to add any plumber's mait?
It stayed sealed.
Do I need any cilicon aslo the sink mouth has a rally thin washer like a paper sheet ring will that be okay ???
You will need some silicone, that thin washer is fine by the way.
Another great video thanks. I'm tightening an existing sink. The "washer" between waste outlet and top of the stainless steel sink is very flimsy and worn. In its original state was probably not much thicker than some tape. I've been told a bed of silicone will do the job. Is that ok?
Yes fine.
thank-you lovely
You’re welcome 😊
Awesome, thank you 😊😊👍
Thanks Lily. X
Where did you get such a wide screw driver for the waste bolt? I wanna stop using wood chisels as I scratched a chrome one. How wide in mm?
15 mm.
Good job. I was wondering if you had a video of increasing the flow rate of a shower hot feed. It's just a gravity fed system. Would a low pressure pump be required?
Yes a pump is best.
@@dereton33 thank you. Do you have a video on that?
Do you need to use silicone under the rubber seal on the sink or is it overkill cheers great vid
No that is overkill. The washers will survice.
Thanks for the reply
Hi Al and Jan, hope you are both well. Al, would a dab of silicone be necessary here?
No none required the rubber seals are good.
If you dont have a rubber seal and need to use something to seal the waste I'd reccomend plumbers mait. Dont have to wait for it to go off as it never goes solid, its waterproof and you just remove the excess when you tighten the waste. Great product if you dont have a rubber seal. Hope this helps!
you made it so easy and simple al enjoyed the video
Can you just replace the rubber seal? Or do you need the full kit?
Thank you so much
No problem
Hi! Thanks so much for the video! In the video you turned the connector clockwise to loosen it, is this the norm for these types of fittings?
I’m struggling to undo mine as I assumed it would be anti-clockwise and now I’m worried I’ve tightened it instead 😬
Ah! I’ve figured it out! It’s clockwise as I’m looking down the plug hole 😅
Yes, correct
I just ripped mine out while my mother was out shopping ( a huge rush so she wouldn't know what I was doing ). I unscrewed the bolt. My intention was just to measure the opening in the sink (thinking of putting an Insinkerator). When I tried to put everything back together I realised there was no brass thread (as seen in 2:47). After a few moments I thought it might have fallen down the U bend. I took that apart but nope. In the end I legged it to the hardware store and bought a new waste part. I am totally mystified. Where on earth could my brass nut have gone. Is it possible ours was glued in place?
It does happen a lot of times.
Hello , can a bathroom sink plug/drain be replaced ? Iv looked through your videos but couldn’t find one to do with it , thank you
Yes, absolutely.
Great , is there a video of how to do it please ? Really need to change them , thank you
Cheers Al. If you dont have a big bladed screw driver like you have, is there any other way to get that screw out?!
Sometimes a 10p piece will do the trick, if it’s not too rusted. I usually keep a chisel handy, as the blade is wide enough. Careful you don’t slip with it though.
Thanks M J for the reply.
Hi Al, any tips for removing silicon from a metal sink...I made a bit of a mess when replacing the sink. I got it all over my hands and then all over the new sink. Job done but sink is covered in a silicon film. Also, my sink waste has a white flimsy upper washer like the one you removed. Ive installed it but do you think this type does the job OK? Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
There is a silicon remover which will get rid of any leftover stuff. I still prefer to use plumbers mait instead of washers. Still try the washer, if it does not leak then leave well alone.
Can you just replace the rubber seal or do you have to replace the full fitting?
Just the seal if you want to .
Hi. Are the replacements a standard size or do you have to make sure you buy the correct replacement?
Make sure you buy the correct replacement Ian.
When cleaning the old gasket meterial off be very careful around the hole in the sink ,these are razor sharp and most come with stickers on when new telling you to be careful. Ironicly i've cut myself more when taking the damn stickers off that warn you of it.
Thanks.
Hi, where did you get the adapter from?
Any plumbing shop or Amazon.
Are you at that bare knuckle boxing again 💪
You don’t even need a screwdriver and can just use the side of the stopper to open the screw in the trap.
Thanks.
How do you fix a single kitchen sink tht needs to be bonded
Ask an electrician.
I used to think that's on glue or silicon
They normally have washers, if not , use plumbers mait not siilcon.
@@dereton33 great Thank you
Why do you keep small women in jars under the sink
