There is currently no tension between Indians and British. There are just a few racists that are present in every country. India- britain relations are absolutely fine, financially and socially.

Talking about the Movie, yaa it is very popular movie, but the movie has no relation with the movie, well the movie is a love story between an Indian guy n British girl..
And also I will like to tell u, the Music at the End of this Video,is the National Anthem of India 🇮🇳😃🙏

Dan n Gian, the blatant ridicule of indians in this video is a bit too over the top but i do agree that a subtle form of it is still experienced by indians, i guess when we visit the west, however to appease our bollywood masses the script in the scene here was bit too obvious. If you guys wanna react to a more formal and public criticism of the british' legacy, about its colonial past in India, watch Dr Shashi Tharoor's speech at Oxford Union Debate Forum. It's one of the most "watched/reacted" videos of indian things on youtube.
Also thanks for sharing your experience of being considered brown in America.

Dan got it right - spot on! It does not matter how much ever time passes, if you are a certain type of immigrant then you will always be looked down upon. No matter what your ancestry or how integrated you are. That reminded me of the Master of None episode where a white lady asks Aziz ansari where he is from and he says south carolina. She says yeah and before that, so he says from my mother's vagina.

I'm an Indian living in the UK and this video was a massive exaggeration. There may be some racists here, but it's probably about the same as any other country, and in fact even they tend to be more PC in public than say, Americans, because hate speech is a punishable offence here and frankly, there are so many people of South Asian descent born and/or living here (my town has a greater than 16% British Asian population) that if anyone did say anything so racist they would immediately face public backlash, not just by South Asians, but also white British people.
I will say though, there needs to be a lot of improvement in terms of educating the British about the colonial era in India. We only briefly covered it in my school history lessons, and most of my knowledge about it came from my parents and my own research. A lot of British people just don't know how badly their ancestors treated India, and that ended only 70 years ago.

People still think like that about India. But I haven’t seen Indians being treated that way - to their face at least. I saw loads of comments about the speech by Dr. Tharoor. It’s a good summary of colonialism (as relates to India). Excellent orator.

This scene is set in England. They are on a boat on a river. She has grown up in England, and has worked hard to blend in. The older guy who started the slow clap after the speech is her dad and the woman next to him is her mom. The speech was, in my opinion, directed at her and those Indians listening who don't know how to respond to such racist comments.
This scene was intended by many to open your eyes enough to now ask you to watch the speech at Oxford Student Union debate. I think the majority of the comments are asking you to watch that next. In answer to your question about "are there still old Brits...", you will note that Tharoor subsequently wrote a book on the subject and that there are several You Tube videos of televised panels in England that he is on to defend his facts against the same old whitewashed British history that has been taught in Great Britain. Eyes are slowly opening. Others are firmly shut.
4 decades ago a white buddy and a black buddy of mine got into a discussion about if I belonged on the white side or the black side. I finally jumped in and informed them that believe it or not, there was a new color in town, and his name was Mr. Brown. And Mr. Brown is proud of who he is and where he comes from. Apparently that thought hadn't occurred to either of them. A blond drunk woman once called me an Oreo, black on the outside, white on the inside. I suggested she take a closer look. That perhaps she should call me a Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie, because I am brown on the outside and brown on the inside.
I'm afraid I may need to inform Daniel that there are other brown people in the world other than Latinos. About a hundred years ago the US Supreme Court passed judgement that despite Indians having an Aryan ancestry, it was plain to see that Indians weren't white, so we weren't allowed to become American Citizens because that was a right reserved for whites and blacks only.

First of all, you guys did an amazing job understanding the message behind this scene from the movie. Second, From my personal experience and living in the US for past decade as well as with my interaction with British, I believe that it is the older generation that still thinks the way 'Mr. Pringle' did in the video. However, I also feel like the Asian Indians and the community has been more accepted in the European countries such as UK than they are still in the US. I think 9/11 has a lot to do with how every Indian and Middle Eastern brown group of people have looked at nowadays but that's a whole different story. Indians in the UK are what African American in the US. Both groups of people have started migrating or stayed in UK and American, respectively. But now that Millions growing and developing their own opinion about the different culture around the world, it definitely feels like both UK and US have welcomed South Asian culture and people. Third, you should definitely watch the movie, this is one of the movies which reignited Akshay Kumar's career. Its a love story, has a message about relationship between parents and their kids who have grown up in a different culture than they are and also consist tits and bits of patriotism to India.

i cringe before clicking this ....every country can put that kind of thing as their bioprofile including Middle East .....i don't hate nationalism but the way it's showcased it far worse than many other movies do it ....it really gets on the nose .....it's far worse than what Michael Bay and many other director do in US ...with army thing and what not.....but you still can notice that nationalism is at its peak like never before in India......because of weird globalisation insecurities....

    • @setuchauhan6235

It is actually so embarrassing to see people requesting this scene. I actually enjoyed that Pakistani actor Fwad Khan controversy with Karan Johar, now he was talking about multiculturalism, globalization and jingoism. He portrayed himself as victim of this pseudo patriotism. But in a sense he is one of those who from last decade were constantly showing such things in their mediocre movies like for e.g - Kajol in Kabhi khushi kabhi gam - abusing neighbor in hindi, playing national anthem in another country which provided you job and nationality. In Kuch Kuch Hota hai - That Indian flag thing, Dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge - India India India. He made our people perceive it in that sense and now he himself became victim of it. If i were that english guy - i would also tell hi about poverty rate - malnourished children - Crime against women - Untouchability - communal-ism- corruption. When we will achieve such standard the world will recognize it automatically there is no need to tell look this scene and see how great India is. Does any american brag about it's country technology which gave benefit to whole world ?

    • @ajinkyadeshmukh8591

..(and not to forget that nri who says is desh jaisi koi chiz nahi and how much he feel nostalgic everytime about memories and still goes back to US)..Americans do that too.....but Americans don't bombard it till a point where somebody says stop this shit(actually i used to enjoy everything that was moving on tv [except may be that bw dots, rainbow and ads]when i was kid it's just now i feel nah that's really fucked up) ...atleast they do it following the notion on being SUBTLE
....also they made Germans and Russians 2d evil characters and themselves 2d heroes ....as most people have no idea they that allie weren't always great just better amongst the two ......i still remember cheering US few years ago saying things like kill that axis jap monster guy....yay.....Army...and i am not even American :)

Some of the educated today's Brits do recognize all those years of oppression and dominance, but they they say "our great grand fathers did those wrong things why should we apologize on behalf of them. There is one more thing In Asia Japan was a dominant power once, that's too long time ago. They attacked on Parl Harbor. Chinese were oppressed by them too. but you know what! Shinzo Abe openly apologized to Americans for the attack on Parl Harbor when he visited USA few years ago. He also recognized Japanese atrocities in China at that time. I he did that when he was Prime Minister Of Japan, so i think you can take his words as official words. That's the main difference of mindset between Asia and Europe.
Oh one thing let me tell you, relation between Britain and India are very good. actually its been good just after independence. but like all relation have ups and down we also had ups and down but overall it's good.

Everyone has already said it, but I'll say it nevertheless. Please react to Dr. Shashi Tharoor's speech at the Oxford Union. It's educational.
To answer your question, the current generation of Indians and the current generation of Brits don't have any animosity as such. However, we are aware about the damage done to our country because of colonialism, but we don't blame the current Brits for it. It was political, and an ideology that the world has unanimously thrashed out. What's interesting to note is that both the countries present the history of colonialism in a very different light, many Brits are completely unaware of what colonialism actually did to the colonies. So Brits might be ignorant, but they aren't arrogant about it.

Well I just see it as he is lecturing and giving knowledge to someone ignorant....And yes we do have this issue with foreigners....Actually from where I live, our descendants were actually Indians even though we are not from India we look like Indians, brown skin, black hair, brown eyes....
We have the same lifestyles etc....And one day my dad told me when he went to USA one time, how some people there made some stereotype comments about him because he looked "Indian"....Of course not everyone is like this but there are people who are that ignorant but it's good to educate people sometimes...
Some people there even thought of him as a Muslim and also wanted to deport him...They asked him so many weird questions, interviewed him etc then let him go...
Of course you need to approach an ignorant person in a respectful way to tell them off....

There is no tension .Nor is there hatred towards today's British people in India. We see them like Americans see them.. people who suck at sports.. The point is some acknowledgement would sure be nice bcoz indians who went through that shit are still very much living and the memories are fresh....Doesn't mean we hate them.. oh yea and the newspaper metaphor was to emphasize that the number of literates in india is relatively higher than what that guy anticipates.. (Indians were often seen as illiterates during colonialism)..just FYI...

Every country has their own pride and honour.... some people just can not resist to hide their pride and show off to other nationalities ,,... and than they get kicked in their own fucking crotch. Being an Indian we have to step up and explain when we have to that we are not a country of poor and slaves... Brits did a lot of harm to Indians back when they were in rule still we stand amongst the powerful nations.

guys , you are loosing it :).....this reaction was too mild !! The tone of the actor was unnecessarily patronizing . You should have bulldozed this scene to the ground. I for sure expected it .
    Never mind the hate .;)
Its refreshing to hear a different point of view from the other channels.
Also , I like the references of other films you give ... I check them out or read about them to add to my watch list.

We felt like the reason we were recommended this scene was for its message and not necessarily its artistic merits. This is why we focused on the "politics" of the scene.
But if you want my take on it as a filmmaker I will give it to you since it seems you enjoy our analysis of the movies we review/react to.
Overall I thought it was a fairly simple scene that was falsely made to seem bigger than it actually was due to the overdramatic music as well as the editing towards the end of the scene. Specifically, all of the people slowly starting to listen to the lecture and nodding in improvement as the scene went on. If the film were powerful on its own, it would not necessarily need all of that manipulation to make you feel proud.
Take for example a scene from one of my favorite movies, Boyz n the Hood. ua-cam.com/video/5p9rqqJmDaQ/v-deo.html
This scene is about gentrification of african american neighborhoods in america, but as the scene grows on it becomes more than just that. It actually starts making commentary and relaying true information about America not only to the people in the scene, but the audience watching. However you do not have any dramatic music or dramatic cut aways. Instead, each side has a voice and interactions with the facts being relayed. It also doesnt tell the audience how to feel. It simply presents facts and leaves it up to the viewer to decide who is right.
Obviously these two scenes are not about the same information. I am simply trying to relay that there are other, and in my opinion, more effective ways to deliver the information that was delivered in the namastey london scene.
I was not a fan of the english actors. Their accent felt extremely stereotypical of a british accent. I felt this was done to solidify this man represented an old England. Not just because he was old, but because, at least for me, this is what i think of when i think of what old english people sounded like in the 1600-1800s.
But overall, I think it was an okay scene for a film that was clearly aimed at a large audience.

Heres another example of portraying the same type of message but in a more stylized and artistic way:
25th Hour directed by Spike Lee.
      ua-cam.com/video/TgL_5QcZCMo/v-deo.html
Please keep in mind this scene is written to be a reflection of this characters beliefs. It also contains a lot of F-bombs just incase you have problems with language.
      Here is another rendition:
Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee (one of my favorite movies ever)
      ua-cam.com/video/gLYTObRhcSY/v-deo.html
Love this scene a lot, one of my favorite scenes ever put to film

I agree with the critique. The scene from Boyz n the Hood was simple and effective . Archived for posterior viewing !
Generally stars from our Hindi Film Industry are portrayed as mythological gods / super hero / savior of all and sundry by popular demand.
Stereotypical English man ... you will find a lot of them in the Indian cinema, not unlike every Indian in an American TV show/ movie ...an extended version of Peter Sellers in The Party...Brownface , plastered hairstyle and nerdy clothes though I did not mind the accent too much...we do talk like that ;)
Edward Norton rant was f..ing mindfuck !!!..... no, don't mind the F Bombs ! Have seen the movie and will watch it again tonight.
"Ape , baboon, big thigh , fast running , high jumping, spear chucking , basket ball dunking " -- diss them for everything !
"Your hair is kinkier than mine" .. am I fucked up to laugh at these racist insults but this was crazy funny :)
      Thanks for the share !
