Very good video, refreshing to see; My father who in his youth worked winters in a lumber camp, made one for me a for my first scout overnighter in 1952 it survived until I abused it in 1968. You brought back a lot of memories. Thank you very much, Brian nearing 76
+Brian Spencer Glad you enjoyed it Brian. Yes these skills are not new the goods always last for generations no matter how many copy the concept and not give credit to the originator
Thank you for the video Brian. The best I've seen for the Roycroft pack frame. The flat spot is a great trick. Very informative. I started to use muletape for the shoulder straps and use flat pieces of wood to distribute the weight per Kelley and Mors.
I made a Roycroft frame about a year ago and have been using it pretty much exclusively since then. It is very versatile and easy to maintain. love it.
and easy to maintain as well. LIke yourself I used a simple Canadian jam knot instead of extensive lashings. Glad that I did because the wood was green and shrunk as it dried out; the simple knots made easy work of adjusting the frame accordingly.
I still use mine from the basic class 3-4 years ago. Replaced the paracord for shoulder straps with mule tape. I like it as a pack frame as good as any store bought. Team wisdom
Nice video, thinking of making and using one of these packs, try it out, for a overnighter perhaps using canvas, wool blankets etc see how comfortable it is, thanks for sharing, cheers craig
Great instruction! There is more than one way to skin a cat and simplicity is best in my book . Mors has a way about passing on that simplicity. Thanks for the video .
+Charles Dorey check out Karamat Wilderness Ways for an explanation from Mors Kochanski himself. The pack load you carry acts as a cushion against your back. The frame merely supports the potentially loose load and allows for easier carry. Ideal frame to carry a bundle wrapped in a blanket or a tarp.
Liking the blaze orange, as i get older and my eyesight deteriorates i'm attaching bright coloured para cord to more and more of my equipment . tie outs for tarps being the first thing.
Nicely done! Thanks! So let me ask you this: Have you continued to use this pack? Do you find it comfortable with a heavy load? Or is it primarily a makeshift rig to be used in only emergency situations when you don't have your regular gear?
Makeshift rig but i have used them for days at a time I still have this to use for demos while teach so yeah it does get used. Thanks for the comment, question, and watching!
Size of tarp=to height of packer, material options,Max weight to haul, differance packing order=heavy on top or bottom ? Ideas for pain free shoulder straps LOL I make a pack but don't have a tarp for it yet !! Hope this helps Love your work and your honesty Thanks !!

+kabaruser I hear you bro Cheers brother
Very good. Why is bottom brace facing out away from your back as opposed to inward against your back?

+Charles Dorey What Marcel Said below, It also acts as a shelf for your load,
