    Another great BL podcast!! I remember Linda's first book was much more candid than her second with Tom Bleecker (and after their divorce she had his name remove as co-author). A podcast comparing the 2 books could be very interesting...as well as Tom Bleecker's solo book UNSETTLED MATTERS. Tom even says in his solo book he got entire access to the "Bruce Lee Room" and cam across info and documents that he would like to include in the book he co-authored with Linda. But Linda wouldn't have it. And YES...try your best to get Andre Morgan...that would be sooo cool!

    I saw "The Orphan" a while back during a special screening at The Great Star Theater in San Francisco's Chinatown on Jackson Street.
    The main thing that really stuck out to me about the movie was...that fake rubber ear that gets sliced off of Bruce's head by the gangsters. (And then it, presumably, gets sewed back on by the end.)
    The melodrama with the new female teacher, the outreach worker who romances her and turns out to be Bruce's long lost dad separated during a Japanese bombing in World War II (spoiler!), well I found it all entertaining.😁
    Because of the various stills of Bruce holding a knife in the classroom, I expected something along the lines of a Cantonese "Rebel Without A Cause" or "Blackboard Jungle."
    Instead, it's a Cantonese tearjerker.
    But, it's definitely not boring....

    Ok! Hi KFG, I have heard that when he made his first 2 movies, The Triads where the lenders…after making his last movie, Bruce decided to start his own Filming Cie…The Triads had a major part in the Distributor Golden Harvest. They(triads) had a 30% cut on all Golden Harvest films. Bruce’s first 2 movies The Triads lent the money, and took a 30% cut on this particular deal. Triads would of loss hundreds of Millions each time Bruce would have made a new movie. You tell me, what you think about this story.👍😎💙🇺🇦

      Saying someone works in the Hong Kong film industry and has Triad connections is basically a tautology. My first boss when I was 18 was a triad member from Hong Kong, and I currently know one relatively high-ranking triad who is a martial arts brother of mine.
      You can say I also have triad connections, but what does that even mean? The fantasies of this implication are often more fantastical than the reality.

    I'm sure you are aware that there were scenes cut from Bruce Lee's movie's
    but you probably didn't know that in Bruce Lee's second movie
    " fist of fury" the scene at the end of the film, when Bruce Lee's character
    ran toward the police and jumped in the air, that scene was cut
    in the original version Bruce Lee can be seen getting shot
    in mid air.

    I wonder if Lee and Wei had any major disagreements regarding the "final brothel" scend from THE BIG BOSS. There is surprisingly very little statements from both or others about it. Lee claimed in an interview that he understood the scene, but it's anyone's guess how he truly felt about it.

    Alex this Podcast is so true and brilliant!! Bruce had worked in America so he wasn’t going to take orders from Lo Wei. Lo Wei probably thought who is this little twerp telling me to come over to him. That’s what always frightened me when Bruce got superstar status in Hong Kong and became independent and did Way of the Dragon then Enter the Dragon. Lo Wei may have thought I’m losing my meal ticket. Sometimes it’s too much for somebody to handle. Like the woman who shot Selena. They feel if I cant have them no one else will. From what I’ve read Bruce was hardheaded and didn’t give a damn. Also way of the dragon was made right after the Godfather part one. I always felt Bruce filmed in Rome because he had been influenced by the Godfather. That’s my personal feeling. I liked Bruce in way of the dragon, but think about it. He’s in Rome. There’s Italians with guns all around him. This is right after the Godfather part 1 is a major hit in America. Return of the Dragon has a beautiful Italian hooker like Appolonia the girl Michael was in love with and married in The Godfather dealt with a lot of guns, the Godfather and Way of the Dragon. It’s so similar anyway I enjoyed this podcast. Thank you.!

    Another excellent video, sir.
    On the subject of Chinese martial arts movie scripts, particularly those from the 1960s (the wuxia swordplay movies) and the 1970s (kung fu films), I noticed that perhaps culturally, character development, as in creating complex human characters, wasn't really "a thing," and wouldn't really become an aspect of Hong Kong action cinema until quite recently.
    I remember seeing the 2000 documentary on Hong Kong action cinema where Chor Yuen, Cheng Pei Pei, and others would discuss the motivations of the characters in Shaw Brothers movies, and the descriptions were always along the lines of "a good guy wanting to do good."
    Okay, but does that "good guy" (and for that matter, his or her nemesis) have any personality quirks, character flaws, or just "something" to make that character's personality unique, beyond being an archetype?
    That's an aspect of American script writing, but it wasn't really an aspect of Hong Kong scriptwriters' works (such as Shaws' I Kuang) until relatively recently.
    I think it's a cultural thing, carried over from the Chinese opera tradition, but since I'm an American-born Asian, I don't mind being corrected on that.😁

    Tupac and Bruce Lee are my childhood heroes. Still watching the podcast but Suge and Raymond Chow are more alike than what you think. 1. Suge had nothing to do with Tupac’s passing except for having him around gangsters (Suge’s street security/homeboys). His killer is dead and his uncle will be going on trial soon. Like BL theres a lot of BS youtube channels (decreationtv is the beardy of Tupac)2. Suge didn’t take Tupac’s money as many think. Tupac had a bunch of legal problems ie lawyer fees and lawsuits. He was broke …point blank. Suge fronted Tupac money and bought his mom a house. Its been said that Tupacs cars and mansion was in Deathrows name (not Suges)to avoid taxes and he didnt have the credit. All music artist were taken advantage of before streaming. Prince, Mariah Carey, TLC ect ect. 3. Tupac would have been paid his royalties for AEOM in Sept/Oct of 1996. Bruce Lee’s financial situation is pretty much identical to Tupac’s. Suge did try to hold his goldmine at Deathrow records like Raymond did Bruce for the international stage. Bruce was definitely gone after ETD’s success. They both went into co-ownership of a company with their label head. Tupac had “Deathrow East” before passing away.

    What's crazy is that Fearless Hyena was one of the reasons people got in to Jackie in the 80s and early 90s thanks to UHF tv. While lots of people find the Seasonal Films superior, it was Hyena that put him over, since many of Jackie's films were not part of syndicated tv packages. It was the Lo Wei films at first thst introduced MOST people to JC at first because they were..well....cheap

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  4 місяці тому

      I think you might’ve missed the context: the films that Jackie did for Seasonal were the films that made him a star in Hong Kong. How people were introduced to him in foreign countries varies and is mostly irrelevant to that part of the discussion. The success from those two films were the catalyst for him to leave LW and start doing things his own way.

    • @fletchkeilman2205
      @fletchkeilman2205 4 місяці тому +1

      @@TheKungFuGenius Alex...I love you dearly....but my point was merely an aside to the conversation, lol. I added it simply because, like myself at an early age, those lo wei films were what was shown on tv here, despite his short tenure at Seasonal producing two of his best early films. Understood the context. Just adding a little revelation that myself had thinking back.

    I've always been curious as to why they've only been a few interviews with Bruce Lee's first student, Mr. Jessie Glover. I've read and several interviews with people who knew and worked with BL but very few with JG, which in my opinion would be the main person ANYONE would want to talk to. The first student, think of the stories he could have told about BL development over the years. Now I think I know why but I'll leave that to myself.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  3 місяці тому +1

      The late Jesse Glover was someone who eschewed media and promotion and so it wasn’t a matter of him not being asked, but rather mostly him turning it down. He was by all accounts the best fighter of all BL’s students and definitely the strongest in terms of his ability to apply forward intention with unrelenting pressure.
      Having said that he wasn’t the student who was with Bruce Lee the longest, in reality he just trained with Bruce for about three years. The stories from that period are very interesting, but so are the stories from Oakland and so are the stories from LA. Pretty much anyone can level the same argument in the various phases of Lee’s teaching career.

    Chan Wai Man suggested that he use Brandon Lee
    the boss was happy because Bruce Lee was still
