"Let me in'.....PLEASE! What a thrill to work bees! By the way, in case you did not know, I don't treat or feed our bees, syrup or patties, However, if I was a commercial beekeeper like you, I certainly would. God's peace brother.
Just a heads-up. Sharpie makes a click button version of its markers. No messing with caps. No requiring two hands when you barely have one to spare. Etc. Clever little trap door to prevent drying out. Pay a little extra, but I bought one as an experiment and it took about 5 minutes before I became a convert. FWIW.
Are these the retractable permanent markers? I’d like to identify the exact product. I am in my first year and caught one swarm but will have to wait till they produce a new queen. I’m fixing to get a marker. And we are red this year?
@@MarionMakarewicz Yes, I blanked on remembering the term "retractable". Amazon has a multi-colored assortment for just over $23 (US) that would take care of a bunch of years, if that helps. (Some of the colors are kind of identical/indistinguishable in the pack, but you would have like 6 years, easy.) And with Sharpie, remember their broader tip is called "Fine", like 3mm. The narrower tip, approx. 1mm, is called "Extra Fine".
From what I gleaned, your hives with feed have expanded the brood nest to two or three frames and the hives without feed only have 1 frame or less of new brood. Glad I have pollen patties on. Here in central MN we will miss the snow but cold, windy and rain without a nice warm up in the next two weeks. Farmers around here are sitting on their hands waiting for the ground to warm up and dry out. Many years the local farmers are all done with planting their corn, soybeans, and sugar beets by May 1st.
The foot of snow might be better than freezing rain. Your power should be safer. Hope the precipitation doesn't screw you over with flooding. Our forecast for the storm is 'we'll tell you what to expect after the storm is over.' Haha, love the colorful descriptions of the queens. Brings to mind the band queen....fat bottomed queens you make the honey world go around.
The last hive you inspected with no patty, from what we could see in the video, there appeared to be no stored pollen. You might have seen some and not mentioned, but it's similar to what I've seen in one of my yards. No winter pollen stores and no incoming pollen. Small patches of capped brood and older larva. I think the newly emerging bees are consuming the the eggs for a protein source.
Seeing your bees out the yard tells me it might be spring but listening closely to the background noise and hearing Snow Geese tells me it's actually spring!
😂 at the start of the video I was thinking gee wish my girls would let me work them without gloves😢 an then at the last??😂😂 now that is how mine are( basically pissed I am invading their home!! So far I have been lucky as the snow was mostly sleet and rain but the nights are at freezing an I believe is 0 Celsius 32F .. But last hive?? Lol at sun down we’re like wanting to eat me up … normally if they get really cranky, I can spray them down with some sugar, water and calm them down. Nope was no calming this hive down.. walked for 10 minutes before they gave up an left me alone about a 1/8 of a mile… but looks like the snow is going to be in the middle of the state north ( Michigan) so I may luck out
No gloves means my steering wheel gets coated in propolis. I can go without but refuse to. Each time I try no gloves it goes well and then a front comes thru mid-inspection and just like that I need the gloves. They can change on you in a minute
Pollen Update from southern MN. Maple trees just popped Sunday. The girls were busy today. Bringing it in by the baskets full. 😊 Sorry for the punn. But it was there. Had to use it.
I am confused about not feeding. If you change more than one thing, the test is not valid. They are not raising brood. Why? Either the straps are making them not raise brood or there is no natural food.
''skinny ass bit-ch'' you made my day Ian. LOL
I also found that hilarious 😂
I haven't seen Ian in bees for a while, I'll bet that day put a big😁on your face.👍
Always interesting to see trials. Will be following. Thank you Ian. Good luck with the storm. You’ve done all you can. 🙌🐝

Things are so variable up here with weather that I gotta feed. It’s $$$
Thank you Jesus 😊
Greetings from serbian beekeeper!
I find this an odd video for you Ian, you have both a smoker and a hive tool, hahaha! Glad to see the colonies looking good!
LOL

Kool I didn’t know that!! I will check online an see if I can find that!

My friend! Enjoyed watching your nice video.
Ian, glad to see you back in your bees! This springtime weather has been "crazy" for sure the past couple of years for you.
At least you got to move them outsideAnd put feed on!!
Thank you Ian
Hope the weather isn’t too bad.

Perhaps yes,
I do believe there was pollen on outer frames

You want bird noise? Look at one of my recent vids
Ooo copper smoker 👍

Question.
What do you do about pollen bound frames?
I tend to just leave them and hope it gets eaten.
Sometimes you gotta pull them to make space but the bees sure eat that up into brood
do your buckets drip into your hives with the change in temperature?
Yes but the smaller ones drop less than larger pails

Looking good Ian. They are doing well. How often do you change out your brood nest frames?
Not enough
I really hope you don't get too much precipitation!
Nice!
😂she made my day
What are those white straps hanging vertically?
Mite strips …
@@tachedegraisse1303 😊 Thank you! I use them all the time , but I went brain dead At trying to spell it. Took the lazy way out an went with Mite..😅😅😅

There is no natural food, except for internal stores and those patty that I feed
So you will be feeding them along with this RNA test?
For crying out loud. Current forecast, up to 10 +inches this week. Buckets might go a flying?
Your voice has changed are you feeling well Ian?
