Yay, Emma Galloway's art is back! In a time where more and more youtubers are using AI art in their videos, I'm glad you're working with a human artist to help with your videos, her art and your narration complement eachother perfectly!
A final fun note on Elmer's time as a haunted house prop is that he apparently scared one boy so much that he would use him as inspiration when creating Skeletor for the He-Man franchise. Skeletor, ironically, being the only character who could give Elmer a run for his money in the "most bumbling criminal in history" department.
You left out one of the most interesting parts of Elmer's (after)life story! At one point when Elmer's body was still hanging in the haunted house, a young kid came across him and was scared out of his mind. The image of Elmer's desiccated face stuck with him, and he remembered it years later when he was tasked with designing the villain of a toyline/cartoon that Mattel was about to launch. That's right. Elmer here was the visual inspiration for Skeletor, from the Masters of the Universe franchise!
I don't comment on UA-cam much but I wanted to say thank you for all the amazing content you offer. I think I have binged it all, haha. Also I love Emma Galloway's art! Wishing you the best for all to come, Kristian!
From the beginning, I kept thinking that his name sounded familiar. It wasn’t until he was killed that I realized he was the infamous outlaw funhouse skeleton. I’ve heard the story about the discovery of his skeleton several times, but had never actually heard much about him. So thanks for that.
What a long strange trip…. I’d like to recommend Mark Svenhold’s biography, “Elmer McCurdy: the life and afterlife of an American outlaw.” Really fun read.
I've heard about this case before, and it always struck me as both disgusting and really sad. You could really get away with anything back in the day (except train robbery).
I love these videos so much. I’m honestly always so excited when I see a new upload. I admire you for continuing to post and how much work you put into the illustrations. You are so very much appreciated. ❤
Was the crew a bunch of toddlers?! Lol! I’d really like to know how this was actually accomplished though, but find it hard to believe they in fact did nap while the robbers did their thing. Quite hilarious really.
I love all the stories that are told on your various channels. But this one… I’m a big fan of the TV show 911. This week Halloween episode featured a mummified human being. He had a very similar backstory as to the one in the story. I know that the writers get their inspiration from different places and most of the time these are real life stories, but this just proves it. Great story and kind of feel bad for the guy, but at least like you said at the end, he’s finally resting in peace
I'm trying to picture someone proposing visiting Elmer as a part of a date. "What did you have in mind?" "I thought we'd take in a movie and a corpse."
Thank you so much for making high quality videos with actual human narration and artwork. Nowadays people are far too comfortable using AI as a shortcut. Every time I see a video from either of your channels I’m so happy and excited to watch! Additional shoutout to your artist Emma Galloway, the drawings add so much fun and humor.
What a coincidence, I found myself thinking of this exact case just a few days ago! It's kind of funny how he was, objectively, more famous in death than he ever was when he was alive... Fascinating story!
Well told! I'd heard about Elmer's stint in the haunted house and them finding out he was a real body, but nothing of his "former" life. He really was a bumbling bandit!
What a story! It’s strange how little respect was shown for the dead. I hope at least some of our practices today seem just as shocking 100 years from now!
SUPER LIKE!!! ELMER MCCURDY!!!!! I rarely make suggestions cause it's the dealer's choice, but Joaquín Murrieta next!!! The inspiration of a Zorro movie
I know the First Runner Up: well-known cover band singer attempts to rob his LOCAL bank, wearing the same clothes (with sunglasses) he wears on stage😂😂😂😂
I actually hit the like button! Cause i don't like how the like doubles as a bookmark list, forcing you to only hit like if you REALLY love a video. Unlike FB where you can hit like and forget about it
Maine fact: A LOT of our wells naturally have a lot of arsenic. Given his father died of kidney failure (arsenic is specifically nephrotoxic) it wouldn't be difficult to assume that arsenic poisoning had a lot to do with his mental state as well. An acquaintance of mine grew up with well water with insanely high levels of arsenic, and he had two brain bleeds by the age of 10. Northern Maine is... well, they currently have the highest rate of abuse and neglect in the United States. They're messed up. Think children of the corn but with more anger, Nazis, and guns.
We actually almost had a huge release of arsenic after a "filter failure" but luckily it never made it to the public water supply, just one of the tanks. More like they were ignoring IT issues for years and finally something happened.
🤢 I can’t understand why people are we so morbid. The idea makes me ill, as I child I visited Madame Tussaud’s wax works. The weirdness and above all the strange smell freaked me out and ran out. It ruined the whole day.
He is one of the few creators that used a real artist's work, rather than AI... perhaps you should look at all the videos & all his research, on BOTH of his youtube channels, before calling him lazy... he is a story teller & the visuals are NOT the point.
The artwork specifically drawn for this is a nice addition to the videos.

@ellugerdelacruz2555 The Netflix Doc, the Toys that Made Us, where they open the He-Man episode with that very anecdote.
Elmer McCurdy really the definition of 'task failed successfully'

Very cool!
“Think you used enough dynamite there, Elmer?”
His robbery “career” feels like something straight out of Looney Tunes.
“The bit where he’s alive” as a chapter tag got a laugh out of me, thanks
In. Stitches. Your narration and Emma's illustrations are just *chef's kiss*
It was hard to pay attention to the story at times, I was laughing too much. 😆
Very original, midwit.
You do find the most interesting stories to cover.
What a bizarre story. Excellent job
Most precious score?
The friends I made along the way!
You had me spitting out my coffee with that one!

Weekend at Bernie's? Meet Half-Century at McCurdy's.
Crazy coincidence; the newest episode of "9-1-1" (aired just a few hours after this video premiered) had a plotline inspired by this story!
After years of watching fascinating horror, i got a bit of whiplash seeing the upbeat art lol. I love the art and i think ima love this channel
