    I bought a Sub-Zero 561 at a thrift store sale. I replaced a fan on the fridge side, thermostat, and condenser fan. It's been working perfectly for 15 years, now, with yearly maintenance.

      The older ones don't have any electronics in them, and very few operational parts, which makes them worth repairing and they last forever!

      You're Very Welcome! I know the SubZero and all brands extremely well, having worked on them for over 40+ years, and having the proper training, so many lack these days. It was easy helping you, as I directed you and you followed and did the actual work, perfectly! Thxxx, Mike

    Love this video. Never stop repairing.
    So nice you put together kits to support this. My uncle bought a house with two very nice sub zero Column style fridge and freezers. They have to be 15 years old at newest. Clean overall.

    Thank you for this video and the offerings on your website. I have a SubZero 590 in which the Freezer side is no longer working. The house is a new purchase that already had it built in.
    Now the much more difficult part is probably finding a S.E. Michigan local repair company that is willing to take on the project of repairing the unit with your repair kit that I much prefer to invest in buying. I don't want to have to deal with getting it repaired later on. I prefer to have it last 25 more years.

      Contact me by email and I can give you some tips on the best way to approach service companies to get them to do the repair.
      Most will balk when you say you are wanting them to install parts you buy and supply, and fixing the older unit, but I have some tips to share with them to get them to do the repair. My email: Rtnoww@aol.com Mike

    Good points, although I'd say that in older units I've seen hard restrictions and or leaks in the copper lines that run through the frame for the freezer section of Sub zero and also in their wine coolers. The sealed system in the refrigerator section is 95% repairable.

    • @abaappliance-az
      @abaappliance-az Рік тому +1

      You can easily turn the 95% into 100%, because the not so common, but absolute possibility of the condensing line that runs through the mullion to heat the cabinet does get leaks inside the cabinet, and can be bypassed, since the sweating of the mullion is not really an issue in most states, unless it is in a severe humid state, such as the Miami area, or the like, and still not much of an issue, even after bypassing it.
      The system is not affected by taking the section of the condensing line going down through the cabinet, out of the system and bypassing it, making it 100% repairable for the refrigerators and freezers. I have done it many times, even once cutting open the cabinet by the customer's request, to repair the line and closing the cabinet back up afterwards to cool perfectly, but this is not ideal, and too much work.

      @@abaappliance-az I've converted R12 to 134 for the refrigerator on those units but was told that it was not really a good idea for the freezer. Is that a lie also??

    • @abaappliance-az
      @abaappliance-az Рік тому +1

      @@lg6400 Makes no difference whether it is a refrigerator or freezer, the process is the same, and conversion is the proper thing to do for all units, including the freezers. There is nothing special about the freezer that would give someone any reason not to convert it also. All it is is a lower temp unit, same parts, pretty much, just a lower temp point, which affects nothing at all, and the conversion works just as well, as it does for the refrigerator. It is the proper repair, to convert all units to R134a. Block out all the ignorant ones stating things that simply are not true, from all the misunderstanding and lies that SubZero continues to tell these days, in hopes to sell new units to people, instead of fixing the older units that should be and can be fixed, much cheaper than wasting $10 to $18,000 on a new unit, then having to remodel your cabinets at another outrageous cost! SubZero techs need to start being honest and they simply seem to have just been all about greed the last 10 plus years!

      @@lg6400 Even cleaning the system is no big deal, just blow it out with nitrogen, because you are installing a new compressor, with the new R134a oil in it, and a new filter/drier, and then evacuating the system, so all contaminants will be out of the system anyway, and ready for the new R134a freon!

    I’ve got a 600 series, it had a leak in the fridge evap, as a result it threw an error “vac cond”. I tapped the system and found a leak, so I replaced their heat exchanger evaporator dryer. Also I replaced the compressor it was working, but almost 20 years old.
    My problem is the error keeps coming back.
    I’ll be going to the callback on Monday. Any tips would be appreciated

      Yah, do what he says if you want to really piss off the customer and fill the house with dirt all over everything! DON'T EVER BLOW OUT A CONDENSER IN A KITCHEN WITH AN AIR COMPRESSOR...are you kidding me? You use a condenser brush and brush down, with the fins and also use a vacuum with a brush attachment, to do the same, brushing down, with the fins, and it gets it very clean. Dust and dirt end up mostly on the surface of the condenser, not inside it ...then when done cleaning with the vacuum, shine a light from the right to left and make sure you see good light coming through, and you are good. If there's light coming through, there is plenty of air going through it.
      Common sense, smh,
      Rule of thumb for those without any common sense...don't ever do something in a customer's hone your mother or wife wouldn't blow up by you doing at home!
      Or try it at home first if you don't believe me, and see how the wife or your mother reacts....yah...if you survive! Good luck and all she needed was this last screw up by you to divorce you and go marry that younger hot stud she's been seeing behind your back!
      If you had common sense and did things right, she would have never cheated and left you!
      Oh well!

      I have not done it, and would have to have hands on on the unit to tell you an accurate answer. I do not know if there are any differences in the sealed system components that would affect the metering of the R134a freon or not, sorry. I am sure I will have hands on with one of the new Kitchen Propane Bombs soon enough and let you know. They just prove how uneducated and really stupid climate change idiots are!

      If it won't shut off, then the thermostat is not working, very likely.
      The thermostat is what senses the temp in the unit, and turns the compressor off when it gets to the proper temp, and back on when it warms up.
