  • Snow Peak has a great new attachment for their large Takibi fire pit, the Floga gasifier. In this video we take a quick look at the Floga and light the first fire in it to see if it is all that or just blowing smoke. Take a look and see how it does!

    I recently picked up the
    Takibi starter kit and on your recommendation also the Floga wall. I put the Floga on before lighting the fire because it was cold and windy and it worked great as a wind break. Although I didn’t notice much gasification I was astounded by the roaring fire. Thank you sir!

      Thanks for watching and I am glad you are as big a fan as I am. The Floga gasification does move around the perimeter and takes a good amount of fire (just as the Solo Stoves do) and also the fire must be kept below the exhaust holes. Enjoy!

      Thanks for the comment. Yes it really is a great addition to the fire pit and relatively portable. Yep, I do like the Solo stoves on the patio.

      Thanks for watching-yes both the Floga and Takibi Solo sold out right away. Make sure you sign up for the notification when they are back in stock-that seems to work pretty well on their website.

      @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 you are correct Sir this add on produces clean beautiful flames, heat is intense, for sure will keep everyone warm at camp. People near by will envy this thing for sure. Like I said to my friends, no regrets on this purchase. Can't wait for summer to use it as well.

    Would be great to see how easy and stable the floga firepit is assembled to relocate it when it's died down? Seems like moving locations may not be possible unless the floga is cold?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  Рік тому +1

      Great question. Once the fire dies down if using good heat gloves you can remove the Floga and lift the fire pit by the top edges to move it, or you can grab the legs and slide it depending on how far you want to move it.
      Having said that I am not sure i would recommend that (but I have done it) since the pit does fold up lifting it could cause a problem. Better to remove the Floga and slide the pit by holding two of the legs.
      Beware however as always because these get ripping hot!

    Just wondering if adding the charcoal coal bed would improve performance and efficiency of the burn while conserving wood? Seems as though the floga would hamper the radiant heating effect Dramatically for those who enjoy staying warm by the fire especially in the cold seasons? What are your long term observations on using this note for your camping trips? Thanks again 🔥

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  Рік тому

      Both great observations-
      I am not sure on the coal bed, one of the issues I have had with that in the past is that it limits the amount of wood that can go into the pit without adding much to the pits airflow. With the Floga you want the wood below the hot air exit holes in order to get the regas effect. Having said that yes you could raise the bed and use some smaller chunks of wood to conserve fuel when using the Floga, or anytime for that matter.
      The Floga attachment doesn't seem to limit the radiant heat from the pit nearly to the extent as something like a Solo stove because the Floga is only a small part of the pit overall. You still get heat from the bottom section o the pit and this burns very hot so there is heat generated out of the top.

      After I read your comment I picked up an SP coal bed and can say that I am happier with the results I get when I use the coal bed both in intensity of the flame, quality of the flame, ease of getting the fire going, ease in stoking the fire, and I think less smoke and more complete burn, . However since I picked up the coal bed I never went back to try putting the Floga on without the coal bed, so I don't know, my guess is that the coal bed plus Floga has better air flow all around and the key to hot intense glowy fires with little or no smoke is more air flow.

    I wonder if the takibi oven with its own crate can be used on the Floga ? this will make it burn hotter and give ooni a run for its "900 degrees temp" money.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  Рік тому +1

      I recall that Snow Peak says that you should not use the cooking accessories with the Floga, you might want to check but I think the answer is no.

    • @kscotterable
      @kscotterable 3 місяці тому +1

      The SP Field Oven CS-390 easily reaches 900 degrees when used at low flames on top of the SP grill bridge as described in the manual, it does not need the Floga to reach that temperature. I haven't used Ooni's ovens but I do use their accessories with my SP Field Oven and the results have been fantastic.

    I hear the Solo stove only gets hot on the top but not to the sides because of the walls. I'm worried if the Floga attachment would do the same to the Takibi. Can you comment on this?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching and the question. In my experience with both I think that the Snow Peak with the Floga attached throws more heat outward than the Solo Stove and works very well from that standpoint. It seems that the Floga burns much hotter than the Pack and Carry without it which then creates the outward heat.

      @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Thank you for the reply. Also, thank you for being the only person on UA-cam that has a review on the Floga at this moment.

    • @kscotterable
      @kscotterable 3 місяці тому

      My experience with both is that the SP Takibi throws way more heat off to the sides than the others, very noticeably warmer gathered around the SP Takibi even with Floga installed, I believe that is because of what you said which is that the Floga puts a double wall several inches above the hot bed of coals that are collected toward the bottom of the Takibi, that heat from the coals is projected more outward, whereas the others have double walls from top to bottom so the heat jets much more out of the top.

    This is def a game changer! I went with snow peak instead of the solo because of the optional jikaro table. I have littles ones and I didn’t want to worry about them getting close to the solo stove and burning themselves. How wide does the floga extend from the sides of the fire pit (total width)? Just asking cause I’m hoping it doesn’t cause issues with the table installed! I went to order it but it’s back ordered 😢 where did you get yours at? Thanks again for the video man! I got my snow peak because of your comparison videos! Keep up the good work.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. It looks to me that the Floga extends between 5/8 and 1/2 inch past the edge of the large pit, I don't have the table so cannot comment on the fitment. I bought mine from their website right after I saw it was released. I am not sure it they are going for the "gotta jump now to get" it model or not but I see the new Solo Takibi sold out the first day as well.

    • @kscotterable
      @kscotterable 3 місяці тому

      My Takibi L fits nicely inside the Jikaro table with room to spare when the Jikaro is set up in its larger mode -- the Jikaro also has a smaller mode which is suitable for the M and S sized Takibi -- I also read that the Takibi XL fits inside the JIkaro

    Does it increase the fuel consumption?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  3 роки тому +1

      For sure it ups the fuel consumption. It burns hotter and I suspect people will stack more fuel into the pit since the higher walls contain the wood. Snow Peak says only that you should not stack wood higher than the exhaust vents or you will lose the gasification.

    Does this work with the Snow Peak Field Oven CS-390?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609

      "Do not cook while using this product. Using this product with a grill or iron plate on top may cause
      unexpected accidents or injuries." This is from the owners manual so I would say that the Field Oven would be a no go on the Floga attachment.

    Can you put the grill on top and cook on it?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the question. According to Snow Peak this attachment does not work with the grill. I plan on finishing up the cooking then putting the Floga on top for the evening camp fire.

    • @kscotterable
      @kscotterable 3 місяці тому

      I do put the grill on top of the Floga all the time and have seen others doing it, works perfectly fine just have to be careful that the grill doesn't fall in not an issue in my experience, the big downside is that you can't vary the distance from the flame but there are other ways to workaround that (add wood to make the fire bigger, move wood to one side of the Floga and put the food on the other side for less fire, etc.)
