Don't expect we will ever be told of the cause of his death. Like many well known people who have suddenly died in these past few years we are told only the chosen narrative.
Steve was part of my life for so lng, what a DJ he was!!! He was the best ever, without a doubt. I can't help feeling that the BBC decision had something to do with his early departure from our lives. And they never even asked the listeners for their input. What a disgusting organisation it is.
How long do you intend to use that old Saville chestnut , the guy has been dead for about 13 years and yet hear you are banging on and on and on about Jiommie bloody Saville.@@rayvinloony2322
Rest in Peace, Steve ! ❤ The BEST OF HIS TIME !! MADE ALL OUR DAYS MAGIC !! STEVE WRIGHT IN THE AFTERNOON WAS THE PULSE OF THE NATION DURING HIS TIME !! ❤❤❤❤
As far as I am concerned the man was a legend ..you never heard him making his political views aired on the radio. Unlike many of his colleagues on BBC radio channels. If anyone who deserved to be mentioned in the honers list it was this man
Steve was a legend you always looked forward to his show he often said he had the face for radio than television lol sad my condolences to his family it's like part of your youth sliding into the distance
About 25 years ago I txt'd him. I was in my piano delivery van with my mate. we had no radio but speakers in the doors and we drove past that massive radio mast place at Rampisham north of Dorchester and were able to listen to "Steve Wright in the Afternoon" for about 10 - 15 minutes. We even got a mention on the show and he talked about how people sometimes hear radio coming out of their refrigerators.
I absolutely loved listening to his shows, and he was funny as well , he would always talk through songs, so nobody would, be able,to tape them, This was quite a few years ago .
He brought light and warmth to weekday afternoons and a smile to everybody who listened. The BBC don't care one iota what listeners think. The damage started with Radio 1 in the nineties aka Matthew Bannister and Trevor Dann, and then, the Beeb thought they could pull it off with Radio 2 in the current decade. Shameful, shameful, shameful if you ask me. Current DG Tim Davie and the current R2 controller have a lot to answer for and should be dragged over the coals to get an answer! They've had a few presenters die since they got rid of them, and yet they're HAPPY TO LOSE AUDIENCE SHARE! Pathetic.
An absolute legend of the UK dies and yet we still get these right wing nutters using his death as an opportunity to slag off the BBC. Steve wasn't bitter that his time slot was given to someone new. He understood that's how it works. The BBC gave Steve the platform to entertain us kids back in the 1980's and we loved it. He was still working for the BBC over 40 years later. Give us all a break and appreciate the talent we have just lost. RIP the best DJ we've ever seen. ❤
Unfortunately, Steve Wright like several others who've been thrown on the scrap heap in recent years, just didn't tick the necessary boxes anymore. He was considered to be 'white, male & stale' by the nefarious bosses @ the Beeb.
The same woman who dumped him also dumped Ken Bruce and Paul O'Grady all three were loved and respected by everyone from the listener to the musicians to the stars and yet this woman got rid of them. Why ??? 3 of the most clued in to life people you could ever wish to meet or hear on the radio. The entire BBC is not fit to be called the flagship anything anymore.
Mike Graham insted of making programs about all that is wrong with the UK. Stand for mayorship of London and fix the problems. Your country needs people like you or it is doomed
RIP Steve Write. The same happened to poor Benny Hill after another BBC b'stard John Howard Davies infiltrated Thames TV pretending to be freelance, made deliberately bad programs to alienate viewers over to the BBC then fired 300 loyal Thames staff including Benny Hill who always beat shows Davies produced like Monty Python in the ratings and then he went back to the BBC. It was telling how none of the Pythons spoke up for Benny and then we had the absurd sight of John Cleese standing up for comedy freedom afterwards alongside Rowan Atkinson who took Bennys hard earned prime time spot with vastly inferior Bean.
Whoa it appears ALL these Radio / TV presenters are Geniuses....& One offs etc .etc ...as every time one of them pops it they are labelled such.....& a Gushing of adulation starts....well until the next one departs...!
RIP Steve. That said to me he was the beginning of the end for Radio 1. Before that DLT, Diddy Davis, Tony Blackburn et al carried their shows on their own without stupid voices like Mr Angry and all the other bumpf. Sometimes I would think:”Just shut up and play a bloody record”
I went off Steve Wright when he started slagging of The Smiths, The Pogues, The Housemartins, Billy Bragg, Echo and the Bunnymen and other similar acts who were the real musical talents of the 1980s but heavily promoted the likes of Duran Duran, Wham, Spandau Ballet as well as all the dance music and the rest of the bland pop that dominate daytime Radio 1 airplay at the time. I’am sure he was a Thatcherite because he described the CND protesters at Greenham Common as ‘naughty peace women’, he criticised the striking miner during the bitter dispute and always pulling down cricket, golf, darts, snooker and indoor bowls, describing them as boring sports.
Once again the media is swamped with accolades for a "celebrity" who had practically no talent and has died. What talent did this guy have? None, other than the "Gift of the Gab". For someone who did nothing but talk and present radio shows, this nationwide grief is so over the top it's untrue. I remember the same thing happened when Wogan died, another "celebrity" who did nothing but talk yet managed to convince millions he was a giant in the entertainment industry. I expect the BBC will name one of their buildings "Wright House" as they did with Wogan. It just seems odd to me, that when someone dies who really did do something for people they often don't get mentioned, yet alone have a day of mourning for them, yet someone who just plays music sets the nation in emotional turmoil. What a peculiar race the British are now. No wonder the country is in the state it is.
Just because he didn’t mean anything to you ? He obviously was very well liked by many people . Why are you writing about him if he was so inconsequential?
I think you've missed the point here. If one of our friends or one of our family dies, the loss is the PERSON not what they achieved, or what they did or what they were good at. Ironically, even though Steve Wright was in the entertainment industry and 'did nothing but talk' as you claim, he occupied a place in millions of people's afternoons for decades whether it was helping them to get through a shift, keeping them cheerful while getting from A to B or working outdoors in the rain or even keeping someone company. It actually isn't to do with his 'celebrity' at all but wholly to do with everyone's personal reflection on their own lives, where they were, how they felt, what they were up to while SW's show kept them going. If you don't understand that then there's nothing more to say. As it happens, I was a part of his show and I had the pleasure of witnessing his sincerity and genuine care off-air. Of course people die every day who are equally sincere and genuinely caring but the memorable ones are those who haven't much time and nothing to gain but still MAKE the time for you, just you. The tributes I'm hearing from personal colleagues are vouching for the same thing. He positively impacted millions of lives, five days of the week, whether you like it or not. That's why they're sad. Kapisch??
Steve Wright, a bbc radio legend ! He was the last of that golden era of radio presenters . R.i.P sreve w.
He was part of my tool kit on the building site, easy to listen to and a good laugh plus great music. He was like a workmate .
Just what I was thinking mate.
What a great tribute, brilliant!
Shame BBC threw him under the bus, but what would you expect from them?
Don't expect we will ever be told of the cause of his death. Like many well known people who have suddenly died in these past few years we are told only the chosen narrative.
@@datrenarakiel8202I suspect heart attack. He struggled with his weight.
They don't give a sh*t. And by the way, R2 were actually HAPPY to lose listeners, if his treatment like dirt on R1 was anything to go by!
He got fat and very unfit..his lifestyle most likely killed him..stop blaming the BBC.
@@NormanCollier-nf7nudo you like being an irritant? Is that your whole purpose in life, you sad person?

It is time to abolish the corrupt licence fee.
Back of the net,.....Any excuse to get a jibe of the BBC in .
