  • This is our 2001 Ford E450 Blue Bird Micro bus. It has the 7.3L diesel and automatic transmission, handicap door. It is on a 1.5 ton chassis. The bus is completely off-grid capable with a 400 watt Renogy Rover MPPT solar system. Feel free to ask any questions. We will be making some adventure videos very soon.

    Excellent set up, very impressive. wish I was younger and had a smart person in my live. None at present. Good to have someone who is smart in all those important things. I can sew curtains and make cushions and drive, but all that important stuff is way over my head.

    Thanks for letting us see your ideas .Best school bus build I have seen .Just remember America is under attack with bed bugs .So be very careful what you bring in from goodwill . I stopped buying from them a long time ago . Big lots is a better place and at least should not have creatures that would destroy your great home . And remember to call ahead to see if the rv park will let you stay .A lot of them will not allow anything over ten years old to stay in their parks . Great job and one can tell you have a lot of thought to what you did . What all of us realize when we get out here . Is ! We don't need a lot of junk to live .Happy traveling .Live free as we all should be able to do without the programming that all of us have had .One tip I would give is .Make a slide out for the storage under the bed so it can be pulled out from with end for easy access . I did that to mine . Got tired of trying to reach things . I even use small dollies with lock down wheels in places I can't reach .Got those at Aldi's for $7.99 .Don't forget the extra seat belt for your sweet lady . If you get dropped she must have one on as you don't have a passenger seat .

    • @rockytop951
      @rockytop951 5 років тому +2

      Not only that, the jumpseat will not stay there on crooked roads unless you have a way to secure it, and where DOES Amy sit when traveling, or is she the driver? As cute as you two are together, you probably should consider a second jump seat, soon.

    great job. what I like best is, it fits your needs and you're happy with it. bigger isn't always better, and throwing your check book at a project isn't always the answer. I like that you took the time to put thought into your build, and that you put the effort into making it your own. should something need repaired you can probably do it yourself and save even more money. I think you both did a great job, and I wish you many happy years and memories along the way!

    Hi guys! Great build. I love how you made found and inexpensive items become useful and beautiful. Your hard work and creativity show all over the bus, and your "fix it myself" attitude is awesome. Fern the Bus is a great role model and while it may have been the inspiration, your bus is very much your own. At the end of your vid you made a sad comment about "... but we did the best we could." WTF! You did great! You have no idea how many people out there can't begin to do what you did, but better than that, you have no idea how many people WILL begin a bus build because of this inspirational video and the fun you two seemed to have had in its creation. I built my shorty using my own ideas and those of others before us. Great ideas should be passed on and bettered. I hope if you pass thru Salt Lake City you look me up. Got a place you can park next to mine in the driveway!

    Best conversion I’ve seen. I believe the man is a electrician and the woman can turn trash into treasure. You’ve probably already thought of this the bottom window I’d put something black in front of that or never put anything in front of it worth more then $10.00 . It’s definitely a bus to be proud of.

    Hey guys we always enjoy your informative videos. Just wanted to suggest though if you haven't already, try to get ahold of the Book called " The Humanure Handbook", by a guy by the name of Jenkins.
    Suggestion: Library. You may change your minds on changing out the system, after you have read his book.
    And you can still do the composting way.
    No need to tear out. You can Just add a small shower system in there. There's also some videos of people who live on the road, and do the composting way, and wouldn't have it any other way. You can Tie on the plastic bags to the 5 gal. bucket, black ones are more discreet, and can put in about 3-4 in. Of sawdust b4 it is used. Then each time it's used, can cover with sawdust. Layering method, until there is no odor. Or there's the
    " Nature's Head" compost toilet, which can be a bit pricey, but alot of people really like them. Remodel can be pricey too. You're a nice couple and enjoy your videos. Let us know what you decided.

    I wouldn’t worry about borrowing other people’s ideas that you know will work. I’ve been saving lots of videos just because they had a cool idea here or there, and we haven’t even made our final decision on what we will be buying. It could be a cargo trailer we transform or a skoolie like yours. Time will tell. We have a few years till our girl goes to college, so it’s all good.
    Anyways, I think the both of you have done an excellent job , I especially like your woodworking skills and love your cabinets. They look beautiful. I also liked Amy’s touches here and there, very nice and welcoming.
    I hope the both of you have lots of fun and make lots of great memories in your travels.
    Be well,

      I went to Goodwill to buy some used silverware for an art project of mine, there was a recent storm in California and a homeless man was in front of me in line, he took 2 blankets to the cashier but didn't have money to pay, he asked the cashier if he can have the blankets but the cashier refused because it's against store policy which to me seems ridiculous. Mark R trust me, I was shocked too. I have been tinkering with motors for 20 years, I was shocked, but we did get a decent deal and it works fine now. Since the bus is 17 years old, hopefully this one will last another 17 years

      What car do you have?.

      A car from 2001. After all was said and done, about $600 in the car. Still have it and it still runs. I purchased it about three or four years ago or something.

    Thanks for being so honest and down to earth. I will be purchasing a school bus and having someone help me build it since I'm alone and have little to no building skills, but plenty of ideas. I agree with you on watching and copying other builds when I find something I like. Happy travels and perhaps we'll meet up one day!

      Thank you and i wish you the best of luck! Its a rewarding experience, even when it seems like its taking forever during the build!

    Can you run the a.c. for any length of time on solar ? Does it cool very well ?
    Thanks !

      @arkansasjon2171  6 років тому +2

      C. Hogg we can’t run the AC on solar, only on shore power or generator. Or at least we haven’t tried it on solar, but the solar is only half as much power as the AC takes

      Jon Saxon , thank you so much for responding. I want to retire but can't stand the heat..why do all the old folks move to Florida ?...lol
      Good luck ya'll !

      C. Hogg I’m the same way. The heat and humidity in Arkansas is bad, and I can’t imagine it’s any better in Florida. Give me the sub-50’s and I’m good. My partner doesn’t agree.

    Yeah that's an amazing price!!!! I am a big shopper on eBay but have never seen the coupons you are talking about. How do you get them I'll buy one of those generators for that price. I have a school bus I am about to start the conversion on soon. It's a 1998 thomas rear engine 8.3 cummins about 34' length give or take a bit.

      You just have to check, they usually put one or two up a week on their front page in the scrolling ads, or you can check retailmenot and look for a code. I use amazon for everything unless eBay has a coupon code...and like I said in the video, they usually have free shipping and no tax on eBay. Our batteries were $375 each and I got them for $300 each after eBay coupons.

    nice job, great name. the tension rods work well w/ cup hooks where needed. The bucket toilet w/ sawdust - can use kitty litter - works better for us - so... bucket w/ trash bag inserted, then a little kitty litter in bottom and add more litter as needed. Have fun - hope to see you out there.
