- Julian Assange arrives at Saipan International Airport in the Northern Mariana Islands for his court hearing to plead guilty to violating US espionage law following his release from prison in the UK on Tuesday, 25 June.
The WikiLeaks founder, 52, will appear before a judge in the US territory to plead guilty to an Espionage Act charge of obtaining and disclosing information of national importance, with a proposed sentence of time served.
The US has dropped 17 other espionage charges against him.

Yes it is becoming clearer and clearer the US is another rogue corrupt nation politically. I hardly know anyone who respects the USA anymore. The man is innocent. The charge he pled guilty too does not actually mean he is guilty of anything. 90% of the people in the US who face charges do plea deals regardless of guilt or innocence, for two simple reasons. Litigation is phenomenally expensive and if found guilty on even minor crimes you can be imprisoned for decades. Plea deals we know are done by innocent people in the USA everyday!! The plea deal with Assange absolutely does not imply guilt. What you actually have is the corrupt US trying to save face. The attack on Assange backfired. Everyone just wanted the matter done with. The US politicians have not saved face, they have shown themselves up as spiteful and vindictive. Their founding fathers would be horrified by how awful and corrupt the US has begun. A once wonderful nation destroy by criminals at the top.

@@g.p616 From what I have heard, there is and never was a rape charge, but rather an investigation into allegations of rape. There was not enough evidence to even take it to court. No charges were ever actually brought. Apparently, it is outside the statute of limitations now for any charges to be brought now as well, so it will go no further. If they had enough evidence it would have gone to court. 3 times they re-opened the rape case, pretty determined it seems and they still could not find the evidence they need to press charges. If he is guilty, then at least he spent time in Belmarsh prison, and basically locked up in an embassy he could never leave. I suspect we will never know the truth on the rape allegations.

@@curtismillen1846 There was never a charge just an investigation. The statute of limitations means it will never go any further now. They never had enough evidence for Assange to face charges.
