Semantic web refers to the web of data or linked data web that can be interpreted by humans as well as machines. This is also known as web 3.0. The key difference between web 2.0 and web 3.0 is that web 2.0 was a web of documents i.e documents were connected to one another by means of a hyperlink whereas, in web 2.0, the data was connected to one another making it linked. The advantage of this was that when a data point is updated, all the corresponding linked data points would also get updated. Also by making the data machine-readable, a lot of work on the web could be made automated with the help of software agents.
Linked data refers to structured data that is interlinked with other kinds of data so that it becomes more useful through semantic queries. Linked data that is open data is known as Linked Open Data. It is built upon web technologies such as HTTP, RDF and URI's. RDF is a standard model for data interchange on the web. RDF was originally conceived as a tool for modelling metadata. RDF is built around existing web standards such as XML and URl.
Serialization is a process of translating data structure into a format that can be used to store or to transmit and reconstruct later. There are different serialization formats for RDF such as RDF/XML, RDFa, Notation3 or N3, Turtle, N Triple, N-Quads, JSON LD.
