  • Hi, I am an outdoor enthuisast and wildcamper, having spent approx 25 nights out in 2023 so far. I bought the 3 tents featured in this video this year 2023.
3 totally differently designed One person tents go head to head in this review. DURSTON Xmid 1 Solid, NatureHike CloudUp1 & The Helm 1 Compact by Wild Country
Learn what you get supplied with each one
See how easy it is to pitch each
    See how they look
    Take a look inside
Learn the specs of each one - size, weight, price etc
    Take your pick!
They are all 2023 tents I bought independently myself this year. I've tested the Xmid1 and the CloudUp1 several night each in snow, wind and rain. The Helm1 is new to me and I've only pitched it in the garden so far, but it was very windy.
All tents stand solid in 15-20mph winds with gusts closer to 30mph or more.
All tents are 3 season. The Xmid and the Helm have more fabric on the inner tent and more suitable for colder winter use. the CloudUp1 has more mesh and is noticeably cooler inside.
I like all 3 tents and don't have a firm favourite as yet.
The idea of this video is to inform and provide another opinion of another wildcamper who has owned and used these 3 tents.
Any questions please put in the comments and I'll do my best to answer

I've used the helm in quite windy conditions now and it coped well, plus it was warm inside, so definitely using this now for the rest of the year. I hate taking walking poles with me so I'll be selling the Durston

Helm 1 for me I think, space to put stuff as you say. Well done Dave, very helpful 👍

Thanks, I've just recently bought the Helm so can't recommend realistically, but I must admit I think I'm going to love it. I bought it especially for next winter. Plus it was a bargain at that price. Love that little cloudUp too like.

hi, l've got rhe Durston Xmid 1 and the Helm compact 1, prefer the Durston in the milder months and its lighter, use the Helm when the weather gets a bit iffy as it looks and feels more sturdy, both great one man tents.

Yes I agree. I bought the Helm specifically for the winter. I bought the cloudUp1 bc it's so narrow and I can pitch it in more places when space is limited.

Hi Dave. Really good video comparing three quite different tents. For colder weather I always use my Helm Compact 1. You hit the nail on the head with saying it's the best 3 / 4 season tent. I do think the Durston is over-priced as I still like either my 3ful Lanshan 1 (not pro) or my DD Superlight Tarp tent for a lightweight trekking option (DD for stealth but very little else), as they are much cheaper. My favourite tent is still my Luxe Mini peak II as it has acres of space but is a little heavier at 1.6kg.
One thing that is often missed on review videos is the benefit of using a footprint. Yes it protects the floor of the tent but it's main advantage is that it reduces condensation from entering the tent space from the ground. I use tyvek sheets with the DD and Luxe and I have dedicated footprints for the Lanshan and Helm. The extra weight is never an issue when you consider the hassle when mopping down the fly in the morning.
I enjoyed your last unplanned camping video and hope to see more of the same. Cheers.

Thanks mate. Yes I have a piece of foil insulation that I use with my tents as a footprint....it really makes a difference and keeps the tent a bit cleaner too. The Durston is a great design but tbh it's a bit too big to pitch in a lot of spaces and no lighter than my cloudUp1 with the poles to carry too. I'll be selling it to fund a drone at some point I think. Thanks again 👍
