@@jnsl1982 Matt had enjoyed some playoff success with the Flames but over the past two seasons, had so much more with the Panthers via having become a consecutive Stanley Cup final list and just this past June a Stanley Cup champion. Whether brother Brady will, after the Sens have played their last game of this season should they not see playoff action, remains TBD although among anyone who played a regular-season game for the Oilers from October 2013 to April 2014, during the eighth season of the Western Canadian team’s so-called decade-of-darkness, how many players are still under contract to that team? Of such players, I count only one, centre-winger Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, drafted first overall in 2011 although names that still stick out to me include: - Luke Gazdic, who would in the 2020s become an analyst for Sportsnet during such broadcasts of Hockey Night in Canada, but who that season had been a winger - Nail Yakupov, like RNH drafted first overall during his NHL Draft year, having played his second NHL season, and would play two more with the Oilers before they would trade him to the Blues

@@willsk7068 I believe that anything can happen in the NHL this season. Going into last season I had seen the: - Canucks as likely to finish no higher than fourth in the Pacific, but approaching the 20-regular-season-game mark had already settled into 2nd and never looked back, remaining in that division’s top-three and ultimately finishing first - Jets also finish no higher than fourth although ultimately they would finish with more points than any of the remaining Canadian NHL teams, that still having meant diddly-squat due to a first-round playoff exit in just five games via having allowed in each, wait for it, at least five goals - Leafs and Oilers finish in 12-3 divisional spots, something they would eventually do even with: - such a poor start to the regular season by the Oilers that at one point it had been looking quite likely the Connor McDavid-Leon Draisaitl era had well and truly begun coming to an end - a big, losing streak in April that, had it not been for some poor play by the Bolts, would’ve pushed the Leafs down to fourth in the Atlantic Division It’s possible the Bruins and Isles will each miss the 2025 postseason. Yet between those two teams, I still see the Bruins as having better-quality scoring and defence than the Isles, so if only either of those teams sees playoff action, it likely will be the Bruins. There’s been a lot of movement within the Metro Division over the years, but I still see the NYR and Canes finishing in top-three spots. The Atlantic Division has featured some movement, and certainly the last two seasons have shown that come playoff time, the Bolts just haven’t been the same team as they were following the 2019 postseason (when the CBJ had swept them) but before the 2022-23 season. This season I see, within the Atlantic, the: - Bruins, Panthers, Leafs and Bolts in the mix to finish top-3 - Wings, Sabres and Sens possible wildcard teams - Habs likely to finish no higher than fifth
I'd agree, but Sabres don't have goaltending. Both goalies are interesting, but young and inexperienced. I think Ottawa has a step up on Buffalo and Detroit based purely on the goaltending duo
@@omfg322 The Canucks’ 2025-26 season will feature dead money US$2.42 million higher than this season, mainly due to the buyout of the contract of Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Yet this season the Minnesota Wild, due to the buyouts of the contracts of winger Zach Parise and D-man Ryan Suter, will be carrying a cap hit of well over US$10 million. Yes, the Wild are cap-compliant but barely so and certainly, come the start of the regular season, won’t have sufficient cap space to call up any player playing in the minors, for a North-American major-junior team or for an overseas hockey team unless they put one or more players on long-term injured reserve. Those buyouts, after this season, will have sub-US$2-million cap hits in each, but because of such severely high cap hits the Wild will have to put up with, I predict they’ll be lucky to finish this regular season above sixth in the Central Division.
I'm curious whether the super under the radar acquisition of Matt Nichol (top teir conditioning and injury recovery/prevention coach) will make for noticeably fewer injuries
How much can Tkachuk endure ? Leaders lead. Where has he led the Senators ? The first tee. Maybe the rest of the players need to find a winner to follow. Not sure who could afford to take on Tkachuk’s contract. A good team won’t have the cap space and a poor team does not need to add an April golfer.
First of all, Tkachuk still has several years on his contract, so he can demand a trade, but it will only be done if it benefits the Sens. Then again, Tkachuk has never openly said he wants out, actually quite the opposite, and with new ownership that will spend what is required for success, will help boost team morale. I am not sure if this is the year the Sens make it back to the playoffs, but as a fan I will be positive! 🙂
@sensfan7550 he also had the worst +/- on the team last dear. I say that their D got better defensively. We just lost offense from defense. But I'm okay with that if it's getting better defensively

Your take on Chychrun is very misleading. I watched almost every game. This is where the analytics can lie. Chychrun was terrible in his own zone. I mean terrible. He appeared braindead at points. Their going to be bad this year because they got rid or Chychrun? I wonder what your track record is with predictions. Not very good I suspect. You have to put things into the context of everything that went wrong last year on and off the ice.
I didn’t say they were going to be worse. I said the defense is worse with Jensen instead of Chychrun, even though Chychrun has his warts. (Sanderson is better, chabot is probably about even but is a key leader in Ottawa) At the beginning of the offseason I was personally hoping for them to trade chychrun for picks and to sign Matt Roy (who ironically joined the caps to replace Jensen lol) Jensen fit wise is a veteran defender who can solid in a top 4 role, not a long term fit, but his stability is something Ottawa needs, we need less flashy more just do the job type players and I think that’s what Jensen is.
