  • The entire gold crown is an often recommended and offered restoration. Because of benefits mostly related to the qualities of the materials and the minimum nature of the preparation, results are good, predictable, and have good prognostic indicators. In this video, Dr. Richard Stevenson demonstrates about Full Gold Crown Preparation on 30 Acadental Tooth.

    Beautiful work as usual Dr. Stevenson.
    I'm in the process of applying to US dental schools for advanced standing programs and I would find it very helpful if you'd make a video showcasing some tips and tricks for the bench exams that are required by some schools, including the wax ups. It's a bit early to worry about bench tests as i'm going to sit through the NBDE I this August but it'll give me some time to practice.
    Thank you very much!

    In real small dental clinic, combination of carbide bur and diamond bur is complex and difficult. Your demo is great but, diamond burs are alternative for carbide burs?

  • @ankursnd

    There is another video that you have uploaded for FGC preparation of mandibular first molar . In that you reduce A plane earlier than B plane. What is your opinion on the results from both techniques? Thanks you in advance.

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  5 років тому +1

      Both work equally well - the key is to consider the functional cusp bevel as an integral part of the occlusal reduction and the attainment of clearance, rather than an afterthought...

  • @ankursnd
    @ankursnd 5 років тому

    Thanks for the video Dr Steven , would your recommend similar steps for PFM of same tooth?

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  5 років тому +1

      Yes, in fact, you may nearly complete the FGC first, then at the end, reduce the occlusal to gain another 0.5 mm clearance and place the facial shoulder, running from the most facial aspect of the mesial contact to the distofacial tooth line angle... Thank you!

    Hello doc thanks for this video! i did my first prep today and find it difficult using the needle bur breaking the proximal contact between the teeth. any tips?

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  5 років тому +7

      That's great - use the tip of the bur at the most gingival portion of the proximal and pull the bur upward creating a slope as you reduce the proximal. Don't try to push the entire bur lingually while trying to reduce the entire height of the proximal area. Using this method, you'll break through the occlusal portion first, while maintaining a protective shell - continue do this until the gingival portion is cleared and the shell breaks off. After this, carefully remove any lips or under extensions at the gingival. You will have enough room now to insert your tapered diamond (878K-012, etc) and refine the axial wall and the finish line.

    Thank you for making this video!!
    ㅠㅠ It really helped me in this semester. Interesting thing was, i was taught that there's only 2 planes that needs to prep>functional&nonfunctional area.
    But after watching your video, i realised that what i learned was a little old fasioned one.
    I duno if your gonna see this!!....i have something to ask about your opinion
    1.I'm thinking about praticing with carbide bur like you, but i've always been using diamond bur. So i'm little worried that the 'feeling' might be very different. Is it okay as i switch to carbide bur?
    2. Me in particular, use only #212diamond bur even when preparing prox. area. Would it be okay to use only #57 carbide while prep?
    Thank you again for your video and hope you be okay from covid-19 !!

      Hi - thank you for your comments and questions! I think that you should try the carbides - they cut very differently but may become your favorites. Let me know what you think...

    At my school they taught us that the Functional Cusp Bevel is a Secondary Plane except that it's on the buccal surface (for mand) so it's called the FCB. So they teach us to have only 2 planes on the Buccal and Lingual surfaces. I am now seriously questioning this bc I trust Dr. S more than my school lol

    • @StevensonDentalSolutions
      @StevensonDentalSolutions  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I understand. Perhaps if your school used the Shillingburg text of prosthodontics it would be different? Anyway, many schools have disparate approaches due to isolationism, school tradition, ease of instruction, the difficulty of change, professors being overworked, hence unable to update their knowledge, and many others. Dental education is in its infancy compared to Law or Medicine - we have a very long way to go. Wishing you the best!

    • @choochd
      @choochd 3 роки тому

      @@StevensonDentalSolutions You are exactly right we use Shillingburg ! I will have to follow their rules for my practical but now I see there's a more anatomical approach to this contour! Thanks Dr. S you're the best :)
