- With the Rally of the Lakes having moved from its December date to the May bank holiday in 1993, by 1996 there was an appetite in Killarney to run a December event again. With historic rallying proving increasingly popular despite being confined to running in their own section at the tail end of international events, under the guidance of Maurice Nagle an all historic rally was created, divided into 3 classes. Historics for up to 1967, Post Historics for up to 1974 and Classics for modified cars registered up to 1980. An entry of 110 turned up for the event which ran some of the very best stages Killarney had to offer, including Molls Gap in both directions and in treacherous conditions it was the pairing of John Keatley and Maurice Beckett who eventually won in their Porsche 911.
Loved this. From little acorns mighty rallies grow. Can’t wait to get back to Killarney this weekend.
R.I.P. Maurice Nagle and Dessie Nutt.
All roads lead to Killarney tomorrow !!!
I did a VHS Video for Maurice..that weekend very foggy on Healy Pass no visibility at the Summitt where Maurice instructed me to go, we had to Come Down to mid point..but we managed to film 4 or 5 stages..it was a great adventure by Maurice he was on every stage in his lotus Cortina driven by Dan Cashman(Banteer) great day..🌹👏🏁.@Pat Sullivan.🎥
I remeber that stage well the fog was Murder
True historic cars, that try to jump into the hedge even on the straights.
