for want of a better term - more non linear in a nice way - tube amps are slightly finicky beasts and modelling in a little bit of that randomness can only be a good move forward!
I bet you Had a blast on tour. Enjoy it it ends way faster than you think it will. Even if it’s last 80 years it’s not long enough tour is where it’s at. It’s amazing how tight you get as a band on tour after a week you’ve practice as much as you would have in 7 ish weeks if you only get together once a week. Thansk for all the help
Thst lead tone you had might be my all-time favorite on the axefx3. Amazing. Thanks for covering this in the way you did...your approach was very helpful.
Could never dial in the 5153 models right before, the tip to have Presence above 9 really did the trick. Now it's one of my favorite amp models. Thanks for all the awesome tips!
I updated my software set up these sounds you have in this video yesterday and used them last night at the show! I had killer tone all night I had never used the 5153 or even a mesa live could never dial them in! Thanks leon for a great tone at my gig last Night. Cheers
I installed FW Beta 25 about 10 days ago and have really been digging it.. mostly playing the Stealth 100 Green and a few others.. I've read many comments from the guys on the FAS forum and I'll let them analyze it.. all I know is it sounds great.. I did a full backup beforehand just to play it safe but so far so good.. thanks for this video.. I knew you were off to NZ and was looking forward to your review when you got back.. cheers!
Great vid as always legend. Hope your tour went well. You should check out the Friedman BE and HBE models with the new firmware. They are my most improved choice in the beeta. Super snarly
Updated mine a few days ago and have been loving that 2203 High! Also not feeling the need to chill out the 2-4khz range when recording on this FW version too.. dunno if that's the amps being a bit more rowdy and having all that character is just great and I'm distracted by how rad that is or if it's part of getting closer and closer to the real deal that amps are recording darker like their real counterparts tend to (at least in my experience)..Either way totally stoked to be back in Fractal land with these last few updates
An X-2 vs X-3 comparison would be cool. Most people are going to have a bias towards newer things sounding better. I'm sure it is better, as all Fractal updates are, but a comparison is always nice.
LT are you using an frfr box or your adams for these tones?, i cant seem to get the smooth distortions following your build with my genelecs, tried many of my guitars
Leon!, do you happen to know when they are going to update the FM3? I mainly use this when I travel and travel alot. Cant wait for gapless switching on this thing.
I’m one of those geeks that uses the Mark IV, EVH Stealth Red and Brit Silver in my main gigging preset. I don’t need all 3, but why the hell not! I also use a pair of PRS CEs on stage too. How are you liking the CE?
I understand you can use whatever speaker imp. curve you want (and that is the beauty of FAS) but you chose the greenback curve because of your specific IR had those speakers. Is that a 'best practise' so to speak? I don't think I ever changed the curve when using your TV IR.
It's pretty awesome fractal team have added deeper (extra) control to classic amps, on groceries shopping day I buy 10 scratchies (every pension day), if I win I'm getting either a fractal or a Les Paul 🤣🙏
I hope FAS will offer open source Neural Amp Modeler support to allow .nam loading to complement the state of the art modeling. I mean more options is always a win for consumer
Great video - To be perfectly honest, I don't experience the biggest difference in the amps, I use. I think they sound totally awesome. Congrats on the CE24 Satin - All guitars get better with a Satin finish (#satinsunday), but I am not sure, I could gel with 24 frets - That's where I always thought the neck pickup should go.
hey Leon im having issues with my axe fx 3. after i did the update on my axe fx i cant seem to be able to change the block type I'm using like types of delays, amps, overdrives etc, any thoughts?
Cheers mate , you sound glad to beback in the downunder somewhere out back Leon Such a delicious PRS that plays those brite ugly delicious sounds .. me being the starving musician those were tasty licks and your signature riff sounded the best with this setup tonight i thought. You have great taste with a palate full of different delicious rocks for us to enjoy.. thoroughly enjoyed those tasty little bites no matter how hard they get.. glad you made the flight home ok. .. Was a little worried along with Lupin a groupie or something wild would get a hold of ya and tear the hair halfway off your back before you got off that Island .. 🏝️😅 😺😺😺😺😺😺😺😺😺..
They've mentioned on the forum that they're working on it and it's currently in the private beta testing stage. At this point I can't say anything more.
I wonder if anybody has ever modded an amp from the 5150 family tree to make that presence knob more usable? Imagine if what is normally the 9-10 range were spread across the entire sweep of the pot!
Hey Leon, I really dig the sounds, Still gave to get used to all that Modeling stuff... But the sounds are more then decent. My question is.... I like playing guitar through my tube amps. In my opinion a tube amp still sounds better than a modeling amp. Besides the sound of a tube amp, I also like to feel the music I play...😂 Do you have that same feeling with all the modeling stuff???
Guitar speaker cabinets and studio monitors/FRFR systems couldn't be a more different experience. Cranking the Axe-Fx through a big power amp and a Marshall 4x12 is pretty awesome too!
I can believe that, but I think Zi am old fashioned. The only thing is, in my world no JCM or other Marshall numbers. The only thing that is the same are the Greenbacks or Creambacks.
It occurs to me that there might be a lot of younger players who have never heard these amps in person. That’s not bad or good, they are just coming at it from a different perspective than someone who has owned or played the physical amps.
@9:25 The Mark IV sounds better to my ears, but even still, it always sounds like you've got very little bass and the volume pot dialled down on the guitar but it's a very wet style distortion and nice and splashy sounding. For me, I'm just dying to crank the bass and gain every video ha. Actually at @10:45 you can see now, gain is only half way and there's no bass. Why is that? Crank the gain and bass laa!!!
The tone stack on a Mark series amp is before the main gain stages, so Bass/Middle/Treble shape the texture of the distortion rather than shaping the overall tone. The 5 band graphic EQ is used for that task. Cranking the bass control on a Mark series amp makes it sound really muddy and congested.
It's amazing how you can buy a real tube amp like a Suhr SL68 and have absolute perfection from day 1 to forever.... however, with the "genius" Cliff at Fractal, you buy this digital box now, and get all these free fixes & updates, for how long now, 20 years or around that? In 5 more years Cliff will still be spouting out the snake oil that the Axe FX is "now" perfectly mailing tube amp tones.... It's simply never going to happen, ever. You know they sell RealSex dolls too for about 10,000 and they have even fancier robot ones, and no matter how close they get with syhthetic humanoid women, it's never going to be exactly what a real human woman is.... same principals with tube amps vs simulations.... just like the world economic foruum brainwashed the sheeple with "you will own nothing, and be happy".... and that is the creed of the mindless axe fx woners, they own nothing and are happy. I've been blinded by the options/flexibility, economics, and overall fan worship of these units so much so that I have owned several models of the axe fx standrd, 2 , 2 xl, and 3 turbo.... but at the end of the day they are garbage compared to the real thing. You either want the best regardless of everything else or you don' People that want the best get real tube amps. People that want to save money and have convienece get Cliffs garbage. By the way, how's your wife doing Cliff , if you happen to read this, haha. No one really serious about music is getting rid of their tube amps for this garbage. Unless all tube amps were to litterally disappear there's no need for this. The OLD ways of doing things in life will always be superior to all this new crap. People think Cliff is so awesome for giving them FREE updates... he does not do that from the kindness of his heart, he uses the public all as testers basically and he keeps fixing things, he has been releasing fixes for amp models in the fractal 20 years now, you'd think after 20 years he would have perfected a Marshall and need no further updates, but nope. Also real amps hold their value or increase in value. Cliff is a snake oil salesman, most of these "updates" are just placebo effects and he knows that, and he releases new versions of the hardware every few years and each time he does it drastically devalues the resale value of the old units.... that does not happen with amps.... a old marshall plexi or jubilee still holds its value even though dozens of new marshall models have came out since then. Elon Musk says we are all living in a simulation.... and that is all the more reason we as people should be pushing back on everythig virtual and re-embracing physical tangible things..... BOOKS, DVDS/BluRays, CDs/Records, Guitar Amps, HARDWARE OUTBOARD GEAR..... I even use an acyuial FOUNTAIN PEN.... and I write REAL Physical Letters with it.... even in CURSIVE... and I mail them to people! People need to re-connect with REAL tangible things of this world and not all this simulated/modeled garbage.
How would you describe the amps in FW 25?
More gain, less harsh. I like it
for want of a better term - more non linear in a nice way - tube amps are slightly finicky beasts and modelling in a little bit of that randomness can only be a good move forward!
Not sure because I don't own one but you made a mistake on the satin PRS. It's a CE, not an SE.
I bet you

That's awesome to hear. Tone is in the hands of the beholder though!
Man, every time you dial in that Stealth, I can't believe the tones. Gonna have to dive in and play around with that. Thank you as always.

Adams.
I actually thought the most recent update of the fm9 “2203 hi” sounded a little more aggressive. Super happy with that update.
Again, they always sound great where they go with the next couple of firmware here for the updates. I’m sure it will be tremendous as always.
I don't know if it's in my head, but they sound much more lively to me. Can't wait for this firmware. Cheers!
Leon!, do you happen to know when they are going to update the FM3? I mainly use this when I travel and travel alot. Cant wait for gapless switching on this thing.
Should be pretty soon from what they've started on the forum
If that JCM800 was any closer to the real beast Fractal would be modelling the windows rattling......
It's THE sound isn't it!

I just generally choose the one i like the sound of best. It can definitely help with getting amps to "feel" right if you're used to certain cabs.

Oooph that would be WILD!
May be a design shortcoming, but storage of anything is a bit restricted due to lack of NVRAM.
