My dad told me Chinese pirates settled in the northern Philippines back in the day. Is there any truth to that?

      Yes.
Pirates operating around the Philippines were independent groups of mostly Hokkien Chinese ethnicity but also Japanese and even other ethnic groups across Southeast Asia, including modern day Philippines.
These pirates would set up bases on the coast in places like Lingayen Gulf in Pangasinan. These pirate groups would have complex relationships with different Pangasinense, Ilocano, and Ibanag peoples. So these pirates would raid southern Luzon and the Visayas before trading in northern Luzon.
The lowlanders were the intermediaries between the gold in the Cordilleras and the foreign goods from outside the archipelago.

This is out if topic. Please excuse me Kirby, I thirst so much for our history. Where there kids involved in fighting oppression for freedom? I only know of 1.

Diego Silang killed by the betrayal of Pedro Becbec and Miguel Vicos. while Gabriel Silang was trapped in a cunning way by the Spanish Army and the Church priest, Datu Kirby?
