On 14 April 1945, at Montese, three Brazilian soldiers on patrol, Arlindo Lúcio da Silva, Geraldo Baeta da Cruz, and Rodrigues de Souza, were attacked by German forces, who called upon them to surrender (including their own leaders/higher ups); the three men took cover and fired on the enemy until running out of ammunition. They fixed bayonets and advanced, but were killed. In recognition of the bravery of the soldiers, the Germans buried them and erected a cross over their grave with the inscription "Drei Brasilianische Helden" ("Three Brazilian heroes"). There is a monument honouring the three men of the patrol and the Brazilian mountain infantry. I love this story and song, it's one of the best from Heroes album! Great reaction!
A bit more context, when Montese happened the 3 of them had already gone missing, since January 21st, 1945, they were sent on patrol and somehow ended up 25km deep behind enemy lines, it is said that they fought the Germans on January 24th, 1945, their bodies were only found buried with 3 crosses in May 1945

The title of the song refers to a Brazilian saying: "It's more likely for a snake to smoke a pipe, than for the BEF (Brazilian Expeditionary Force) to go the front and fight." The Brazilian government at the time was unwilling to get deeply involved in the war. Essentially, "when pigs fly." Now, the phrase means "something will happen in a furious and aggressive way."
Brazilian soldiers gave their lives for the liberation of Italy that was in the hands of the Germans. There is even a special day in Italy where they pay tribute to Brazilian soldiers killed in combat. this is called glory and respect 🇧🇷🇮🇹❤

the term "cobras fumantes" comes from the expression used by the Brazilian expeditionary force in Italy that said that it was easier for a snake to smoke than for Brazil to enter the second world war.
The other comments told you about the three soldier, so let me tell you about the rest of the troops. If I remember correctly all those Brazilian troops where volunteers wanting to fight, the reason why it took them so long to go is because they didn't have modern weapons, uniform's and helmets. All those things had to be supplied by the US before they could go and fight, and it took the US a long time to supply them because they had to supply their own troops and almost all the other allied troops.

It was the opposite actually. The Brazilian Expeditionary was comprised entirely of volunteers from the Army and the Air Force, and they were all eager to join the fray and show their worth, the problem was that the allied high command was unwilling to put much reliance on them since they had no prior fighting experience. The Air Force guys started making a name for themselves flying some very high risk sorties essentially on their own, while the infantry lads cleared minefields across the Gothic Line and advanced through Monte Castelo and Montese around the flanks of allied positions. The Army folks would eventually earn their fame in the battle for Collecchio, wherein they captured the entirety of the 148th Infantry Division of the German Army after days of intense fighting.

The story of the 3 heroes, Italy 1945. In the year 1945, in the middle of the Italian campaign, a battle of Brazilian soldiers faced more than 100 German soldiers, in the midst of the combat 3 soldiers distanced themselves from the main group and found themselves in an advantageous position to send fire on the German troops, as well these 3 soldiers started a barrage of fire which the German troops believed was another battle of Brazilian soldiers, thus causing the fire to be divided and in this way that the main group of Brazilian soldiers could better protect themselves and retreat before the enemy superior troop, these 3 soldiers continued the fire until the end of their ammunition, at which moment they knew that they had to keep the fire on themselves so that the main troop could retreat, closed their bayonets and burst against the Germans, being killed immediately, the German group advanced cautiously because they believed it was a larger troop, and they were incredulous when they saw that they were dealing with only one thing. 3 solitary soldiers, before such an act the German commander carried out the burial of the 3 Brazilian soldiers (something totally unusual in that theater of operations), and finally placing 3 crosses with the words in German, “Drei Brasilianischen Helden” or “Three Brazilian heroes ”, this story inspired the band Sabaton to compose the song "Smoken Snakes" in honor of these soldiers. There are some disagreements in this story pointed out by scholars, but almost always these are indicated as the 3 soldiers Geraldo Baêta da Cruz, then 28 years old, born in Entre Rios de Minas, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Arlindo Lúcio da Silva, 25, born in São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Geraldo Rodrigues de Souza, 26, born in Rio Preto, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. These 3 soldiers were awarded the following medals, campaign medal, Blood of Brazil and second class combat medal. In the decree that granted them these last decorations, it reads, "For an action of exceptional deed in the campaign of Italy". P.S. Why were Brazilian soldiers in WW2 known as smoking snakes? The story is told how when Hitler learned that Brazil had declared war on Germany, he would have said "it is easier for a snake to smoke than for Brazil to participate in the war".

Yes. 03 Brasilians soldiers fought against more than 100 germans soldiers to save many others brasilians soldiers. It's happened in Italy on WAR II. Brasilians soldiers captured more the 15000 germans soldiers an many warlike aquipments too. Greetings from Brasil
As a brazilian, i may be wrong, but despite political views or anything, if something like that happened and menace our country, I'm sure there'd be tons of volunteers
If you want into this song more deeply you can react their Sabaton History of this song where they explain the lyrics and tell the story behind our heroes Cobras Fumantes
During the fight, the Germans thouth they're fighthing aganst an american division. When they realize that they're fighthing agains only 3 Brazilian soldiers, they bared them with honour.
Please Guys, do not think less of this story... These three Brazilian Soldiers, attack one entire Battalion of Nazis with so much Power, begging with synchronized Grenades that the nazis though be one entire Brazilian company... And with strategical positions and empty their rifles, and after their position was discovered, they use their "Baionetas" (Knifes in the point of the rifle) and March against the nazis.... For that, the German Army buried them with Military honors calling "Three Brazilian Heroes"
When you got sidetracked by the Cry Thunder chord progression, I wanted to listen to it for reference. Now, being a Sabaton fan, I got completely sidetracked by the chord progression too, only the roles of the songs were swapped! XD Also, the Polish Army was outnumbered 40 TO 1! I recommend you check out 40:1 if you want more info about that. Was at the beginning of WW2. Basically stuff like the Wehrmacht indicates the fight's in WW2.
It is revolting to see that the Brazilian government does not treat them as heroes because they sacrificed their lives to free Italy from Nazi-Fascism, which is strange because in Italy there is a day in particular that they remember of these 25,000 soldiers celebrating the liberation of Italy (it is worth remembering that this same expeditionary force was responsible for the surrender of an entire german division including its commander in Fornovo Di Taro)

Expeditionary's Song
Do you know where I come from ?
I come from Engenho's Hill,
From the jungles, from the coffee plantations,
From the good land of the coconut,
From the hut where one is little,
Two is good, three is too many,
I come from the silky shores,
From the mighty mountains,
From the pampas, from the rubber plantation,
From the curly banks of rivers,
From the wild green seas
From my homeland.
No matter how far I travel,
God don't let me die
Without going back there;
Without taking it for badge
This "V" that symbolizes
The victory to come:
Our final victory,
Which is the aim of my rifle,
The ration of my bag,
The water from my canteen,
The wings of my ideal,
The glory of my Brazil.
I come from my land,
From the white house in the mountains
And from the moonlight of my hinterland;
I come from my Mary
whose name begins
In the palm of my hand,
Warm arms of Moema,
Iracema's Honey Lips
Extended to me.
O my dear land
From Senhora Aparecida
And from Senhor do Bonfim!
No matter how far I travel,
God don't let me die
Without going back there;
Without taking it for badge
This "V" that symbolizes
The victory to come:
Our final victory,
Which is the aim of my rifle,
The ration of my bag,
The water from my canteen,
The wings of my ideal,
The glory of my Brazil.
Do you know where I come from ?
And from a homeland that I have
In the bulge of my guitar;
What to live in my chest
It even took shape
Of a huge heart.
I left behind my land,
My lemon, my lemon tree,
My jacaranda tree,
my tiny house
Up on the hill,
Where the sabiá sings.
No matter how far I travel,
God don't let me die
Without going back there;
Without taking it for badge
This "V" that symbolizes
The victory to come:
Our final victory,
Which is the aim of my rifle,

I come from beyond this mountain
That still blues the horizon,
Where our love was born;
From the ranch next door
A coconut tree that, poor thing,
Longing has already died.
I come from the most beautiful green,
Of the most golden yellow,
From the bluest blue full of light,
full of silver stars
Who kneel in wonder,
Making the sign of the Cross!
No matter how far I travel,
God don't let me die
Without going back there;
Without taking it for badge

Keep it up man, absolutely love your channel ❤
Cobras fumantes eterna é sua vitoria "Smoking snakes, eternal is your victory"
Cobras fumantes eterna e sua vitória= smoking snakes eternal
is your victory
Yes. 03 Brasilians soldiers fought against more than 100 germans soldiers to save many others brasilians soldiers. It's happened in Italy on WAR II. Brasilians soldiers captured more the 15000 germans soldiers an many warlike aquipments too. Greetings from Brasil
They still have at least 16 more years to go to be 100 year's old.
the " far far from home, to a war..." reminds me of the power rangers lost galaxy theme.
Cobras Fumantes Iterna E Sua Vitoria means, Smoking snakes, your victory is eternal
Sou brasileiro e essa musica foi feito pela banda sabaton banda sueca que canta musica homanegiando soldados de guerra de varios paises
There’s actually videos of Brazilian marching bands playing this song
As a brazilian, i may be wrong, but despite political views or anything, if something like that happened and menace our country, I'm sure there'd be tons of volunteers
❤ Love Brazil.
A cobra fumou 🐍 🔥
The battle of Monte Castello. You should look it up. It's very interesting.
It’s time to watch Dan Vasc sing this I’m waiting
If you want into this song more deeply you can react their Sabaton History of this song where they explain the lyrics and tell the story behind our heroes Cobras Fumantes
To me that’s their best song
A COBRA FUMOU 💛💚
During the fight, the Germans thouth they're fighthing aganst an american division. When they realize that they're fighthing agains only 3 Brazilian soldiers, they bared them with honour.
The brazilean navy was also a big help to hunt the U boots during the battle of the Atlantic
"Cobras fumantes, eterna é sua vitória" = "Smoking snakes, eternal is your victory"
XD
Also, the Polish Army was outnumbered 40 TO 1! I recommend you check out 40:1 if you want more info about that. Was at the beginning of WW2. Basically stuff like the Wehrmacht indicates the fight's in WW2.
2:22 nah sounds more like devil dogs but I don't know which one came first
A cobra fumou!!!
BRASILEIRO PRESENTE 🇧🇷
It is revolting to see that the Brazilian government does not treat them as heroes because they sacrificed their lives to free Italy from Nazi-Fascism, which is strange because in Italy there is a day in particular that they remember of these 25,000 soldiers celebrating the liberation of Italy (it is worth remembering that this same expeditionary force was responsible for the surrender of an entire german division including its commander in Fornovo Di Taro)
Unfortunately, these three heroes are little known here in Brazil
It has the similar chords as devil dogs as well
You should check out the Sabaton History episode about this.
🐍🚬
Haha, You must see when Dragonforce write a Sabaton song in 10 minutes! :D
Uma pena que esta história é desconhecida pela maioria dos brasileiros
Going to suggest To Hell and Back once again. But also! Carolus Rex if you haven't already, or maybe Attero Dominatus
Please react to *Hearts of Iron* and *Attero Dominatus* , if you haven’t already.
Yep... But Sabatton is older
You need to check out Devil Dogs, it is basically Smoking Snakes 2.0
You should react to "Devil dogs" it is also one of the best SABATON song.
