Chad really enjoyed the two part segment with “Harry the Horse”. Thank God for CC , otherwise I couldn’t have understood what he was saying. I have been following his magazine articles for years. I had no idea he was that old. He definitely lived a full & colorful life. Thank you for this very informative interview. Keep up the good work, and be careful on that MC. You drive like Mad Max.

Holy cow..I got sent to NKP in 71 for a short period of time. I was a courier going to and fro from Laos in a helo...and you never knew what we were going to encounter. He was correct in saying that it was a TS base....It didn't exist. Very interesting and thanks so much for sharing.

Nice, always wondered who the man was behind the Horse. Also USAF retired. I bet someone would be interested in all those Thailand club magazines, preserving that snapshot in time, not a lot of people realize we had so many bases in Thailand anymore.

I use to read his column all the time when he was like a roving reporter around A/C before the UA-cam days..He knew all the local gossip going around A/C..He retred from that and turned it over to someone else who ran the column into the ground and that was that...Always wondered what happened to him...

Hey chubs, I met and spoke with Jim on a couple occasions in 2012 & 2013. My buddy and I stopped by to meet him the first time and he was having PC/wifi trouble, which my buddy fixed for him. We also uploaded ~5000 songs (mostly years of Billboard 100 stuff) on his hard drive and he was ecstatic. He put a blurb and a photo of our visit in one of his "Harry the Horse" website updates. He thought we were Canadian...I guess because we were so nice 😁. I think he's a great guy and a wealth of AC info. I was USAF 1982-86 ('85 & '86 on Clark). Those were the days...

Chubbs, what a great interview.. not sure if he mentioned it during the interview, but did you know he was one of the 25% owners of envy before it closed? when I first went to the philippines or Angeles city rather in 2012 I went into that room that you interviewed him and we talked about his time on this earth in the Air Force and my time in the Air Force in Australia, great guy. He doesn’t look very well at the moment. Hope you met his wife. She is a beautiful Philippine lady thanks for the video chubs.

Here is the truth about Phillies & Envy, how they started, why Phillies was sold and Envy started and why it closed. Phillies was started as a passive investment by a group of 5 Expats, with an Expat manager who claimed to know the business and would make it very profitable. The investors never planned to run the business day to day. Jimmy invested $25,000 in Phillies, along with Peter, the two major investors Mark & Phil had a larger investment and another Aussie was the fifth investor. It really did not work, the major investors became more involved, and the manager, Rob, got sick and died.
Mark was working in Phillies every day at that time and saw of the mistakes that Rob had made with design and the overall operation. Mark also had a very large business in Australia that he was still operating, his plan had been to bring a lot of the sales, marketing, and admin to the Philippines. But later changed his plans. Peter sold out and was no longer involved. The lease for Phillies also was not good and great, so Mark made the decision to sell Phillies and take the option on the new building that was going to be built, Envy. Jimmy was always a passive investor, and Mark being one of the nicest guys out there kept Jimmy in the new company Envy.
A lot of money was put into Envy, and it was on track to be profitable by March 2020. But that is when Covid shut down the Philippines for two plus years. Mark moved back to Australia, and the way Envy operated changed, it became, much more remote for Mark and Phil, John was here, and Jimmy was still passive.
Because tourism never really came back after covid, and the outlook is not great, Expats move here to live, but tourism has shifted more to Thailand, so Envy could not make a return that was acceptable. They tried for the last few years but saw it was never going to be what the owners wanted, and the owners did not have the time or the interest in being here. The choice was made to cost it with the lowest costs to get that done. But Jimmy was never a 25% owner, he was always passive and with his advance age he did not even visit the bar. I believe the last time he was at Envoy was for his Birthday a few years ago.
