This is the first review I've seen of the car. I drew it for Rapido so I'm very pleased it's such a good review. I had prototype plans of the car and the hitches and I spent considerable time making sure the scale hitches could actually operate!

I have several Rapido locomotives, railcars, and buses (!) in N scale, and the detail at that level is just mind blowing. Their HO models are second to none. Jason Schron, and his obsession with underbody elements, the stuff you never see until your train derails, is a guarantee of exceptional quality in the details you can't miss.

I pulled trailers for UPS for 41 years. In Los Angeles we ran over 400 trailers a night into the pig yards, so I saw all these cars up close. We either parked the trailers in a staging area or right alongside the tracks/cars. Those cars are really nice and the 5th wheel detail is right on. The 26 foot trailers you have are more a pre 80's thing. In the late 70's we started getting in 28 foot trailers and that is the max length now for doubles/combos. And then I saw trailers go from 40 feet to 48 and now 53 foot max. If youre going to have a pig yard there, are you going to get a loader? Ive seen very nice models of them, I think from Walthers. But then again, with your skill I imagine you would just scratch build one!! Thanks for the videos, I have learned a lot.

Thanks for sharing that. Always fascinating to hear from the real railroaders.
You raise a good point. These will probably be bridge traffic that comes in - and goes out - on the Ferry from the Island as dated "Short Line" express cars if I use them at all. The transload area is a little undecided yet but since you raise the point I was going to build a crane on dollies for loading etc. Cheers ~ Boomer.

I've been around a while but I have to say I've never known so many great models (by a range of manufacturers) being announced and manufactured like they are now in these last 4 years. The extent of the details is stretching our expectations in many ways, continually raising the bar. You say one doesn't need many models with a small shelf layout; but how many is enough? :) The thing is, you either pre-order it, or if you are lucky buy it very soon after it is released, or you will go without. There's no second chances. This pre-order culture is fueling demand in my opinion as there seems to be an insatiable appetite for models. So it's good time for manufacturer's that are willing and able to invest, and modelers who can afford to keep buying. Towards the end of each month I look forward to seeing what is being announced even though I really do not 'need' any more models, yet I have a wish list of ones I hope will be produced one day, including some re-runs that I missed or improved versions of those. The Rapido Berlin Mills box car announcment back in January was the biggest and most exciting surprise announcement I could ever expect.

Since I'm an "H0 guy" myself but not a model railroader, I don't know much about locomotives and wagons. But Rapido Trains makes fantastic models and tries to be as accurate as possible. The results look simply awesome for sure! However, I became aware of Rapido through their Chevy Caprice/Impalas, because I have been waiting for such model automotives for many, many years. It's just a shame that Rapido included so many errors/simplifications in these Caprice/Impala models just to save on parts - something they would never dare to do with their locos and cars.
I'm currently in the process of building the grille for a 1981 (to '85) Caprice, an Impala is getting the correct side marker lights at the front and (if I succeed) the correct rear lights. By the way, the Caprice will be equipped with lots of (LED) lights as a patrol car. I don't know yet whether I will also illuminate the Impala as a detective's car... Unfortunately, the paint from Rapido cannot be stripped off without damaging the body, which makes a conversion quite difficult. Especially since an engraving line is still missing on the sides below the doors. This is easy to engrave yourself, but at the same time two tiny spots below this line would have to be filled, which leads to problems with the Rapido paint. Quite tricky...
Nevertheless, I really like these Rapido models, in contrast to the 1987 Caprice from Brekina, they have the right scale and the correct roof arch. And at least Rapido used an extremely rare and expensive method in model making to chrome the front and rear bumpers: electroplating a real copper layer on the plastic parts, which makes the chrome extremely resistant and durable. But on the other hand Brekina has the photo etched free-standing Chevrolet emblem, which is missing on the Rapido Chevys... Maybe I should turn the 1987 Brekina Caprice into a 1986 version and give the emblem to the Rapido Caprice... Sounds like a plan, doesn't it? 😇 Cheers from Southwest Germany - Ralf🍀

You should build the A-Line Auto Carrier ( A-Line # 50605), coupled to one of the "Showcase Miniatures" GMC Tractor kits and load it with Rapido Caprices - now that would look cool. 😁

@@boomerdiorama In fact, that would look really cool.😎👍🏻 There are only two problems: These models are hardly or not at all available here in Germany; and I'm more into police cars and emergency vehicles in general, so I'm more familiar with them. Although, I would be interested to know the manufacturer of this Canadian light bar that Rapido Trains also replicated. I read the name somewhere once, but I just can't find it on the anymore...😒

@@boomerdioramaRapido disappointed me with their Great Northern 40’ boxcars. With Rapido, it can sometimes be a game of roulette as to success or not in a release. These Canadian piggyback are excellent and are/were very much needed in the Canadian market. Interestingly, the production decision was under threat in the early days and I was one of a few who encouraged people to consider this as a fantastic addition to the Canadian market. Some dealers were saying that some of their customers were hesitant to pay $60 for a “flatcar” which held back early take up on reservations.

Yes, details like brake chambers and other details can be added - A-Line/PPW and Plano or build your own...
