Mr Girish, I have no doubt that he is an accomplished singer on his own right and in his language. But there is a fundamental difference in the diction between the language he grew around and North Indian especially Urdu diction. Mehdi Hasan loved the fact that South Indians loved his Thumariyan, ghazals. If Mehdi was expected to sing a German song, the diction would not be the same!
You are right Istiaq, he has absolutely no match ,I rate him the number one ghazal singers of all time. He might not be polished as some of the other popular ghazal singers.He was an unpolished diamond. Popularis not always the best and vice versa... Nobody can match the great ustad, the late Mehdi Hasan
