The Trudeau government has brutally weakened this country with Trudeau's personal policy agenda and vote buying schemes over the years. The Trudeau governments policies, actions and inactions have drastically hurt the Canadian economy and the only reason the economy has survived is the massive debt this government has built up over the last decade. GDP per capita has continually gone down under his leadership or lack of leadership depending on how you look at it. Rather than increasing military spending to meet the NATO target that Trudeau promised he would do, he decided to spend that money on the dental care program to buy the support from the NDP in order to stay in power. This has left Canada weak and vulnerable and a perfect target for a predator like Trump. This action from Trump has nothing to do with fentanyl, illegal immigrants or the tiny trade imbalance.

It sounds like a bad joke. The Gripen fighter was originally developed in the 1980s - it's a light weight single engine fighter not intended for long-distance missions. As a typical fourth-generation fighter it is comparable with Canada's existing F-18C in terms of general technological sophistication but much less capable in overall capacity (as the F-18s are double-engine heavy multi-role fighters with vastly superior range and payload). Canada bought F-18s in the 1980s precisely in appreciation of its range - a core mission of the Canadian Air Force was to patrol the vast Arctic, where airfields are few and distantly spaced-out. Light fighters with mediocre range may be a good choice for Sweden or other countries of similar size but are a terrible misfit for Canada, whose size is equivalent to the whole Europe. Additionally, why would Canada spend billions to replace its current 1980s' fourth generation fighters with another 1980s' fourth generation fighters??? The whole point of buying F-35 is to MOVE ON WITH TIME - F-35s are the ONLY type of 5th-Generation stealth fighters available in the Western World. Britain bought it; Germany bought it; Italy bought it, Australia bought it, Japan bought it... If Canada doesn't buy F-35, the only options of 5-generation fighters out there for shopping are Russia's Su-57 and China's J-20. It's just another example of Canada delusionally overestimating its leverage. You folks just DON't have that much leverage. The things we produce in the South are high-tech products to which your semi-industrialized country have NO alternatives. In contrast, the stuff you export to us - e.g. steels, lumber, oil, etc. can be easily obtained across the world - from Latin America to Africa to Middle East. Canada really screws itself up by incurring America's wrath - you are NOT Russia or China, who are capable of self-sufficiency; nor are you France or Germany who are ingrained in their own separate economic ecosystem (i.e. the EU). Canada is completely dependent on the US for almost everything. America owns you - as harsh as it sounds, it's a FACT. A dog is in no position to retaliate against its owner - sorry to put it bluntly.
So you want to hurt canada even more??? F-35's include Canadian components such as landing gear parts, engine parts, and software. This indicates that Canadian industry will play a significant role in the production and maintenance of the F-35s
Canada is small market compared to US, but indeed Canadians realized the truth: there won’t be forever friendship, they always making friends with profits and benefits. Please be more independent and not rely on the states.
how about for SAFETY and PROTECTION? You want Canada to be "independent" there and not "rely on the states"? China and Russian would be falling each other moving in on us from the north. There's NOTHING we could do.
In Canada, tariffs on American products, or any imported goods, are generally set by the Canadian government under the authority of the **Customs Tariff Act**. However, certain changes to tariffs, especially those related to international trade agreements or significant policy shifts, may require parliamentary approval. Here are some key points: 1. **General Tariffs**: Most tariffs are established by the government through regulations under the Customs Tariff Act and do not require individual parliamentary approval. These tariffs are applied based on Canada's trade policies and international commitments. 2. **Trade Agreements**: If Canada enters into a new trade agreement (e.g., USMCA/CUSMA, which replaced NAFTA), the terms of the agreement, including tariff reductions or eliminations, must be ratified by Parliament. This involves passing implementing legislation. 3. **Emergency or Special Tariffs**: In cases where the government imposes emergency tariffs (e.g., in response to trade disputes or national security concerns), parliamentary approval may be required, depending on the scope and legal basis of the measures. 4. **Budgetary Measures**: Changes to tariffs that have significant fiscal implications (e.g., revenue generation or economic impact) may be included in the federal budget, which is subject to parliamentary approval. 5. **Private Members' Bills**: Occasionally, individual Members of Parliament may propose changes to tariffs, which would require parliamentary debate and approval. In summary, while routine tariff adjustments are typically handled by the government, significant changes, especially those tied to trade agreements or major policy decisions, require parliamentary involvement. For specific details, consulting the **Customs Tariff Act** or Canada's trade policies would be necessary. Cutting off energy or power supply to the United States from Canada would be an extraordinary and highly unlikely action, given the deep economic and political ties between the two countries. However, if such a decision were to be considered, it would involve multiple layers of governance and legal considerations in Canada. Here's how it might work: 1. **Executive Authority**: The Canadian government, particularly the Prime Minister and Cabinet, has significant authority over energy policy and international trade. Decisions related to energy exports, including electricity and oil/gas, are typically made at the executive level, often through agencies like Natural Resources Canada and the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). 2. **Parliamentary Involvement**: While the government can make decisions on energy exports without immediate parliamentary approval, significant policy shifts-such as cutting off energy supplies to a major trading partner like the U.S.-could trigger parliamentary debate. If the decision required changes to legislation (e.g., the **National Energy Board Act** or **Canadian Energy Regulator Act**), parliamentary approval would be necessary. 3. **Treaty Obligations**: Canada and the U.S. are bound by international agreements, such as the **USMCA/CUSMA** and various energy-specific treaties (e.g., the **North American Energy Working Agreement**). Cutting off energy supplies could violate these agreements, potentially requiring parliamentary involvement to address legal and diplomatic consequences. 4. **Provincial Jurisdiction**: Energy resources in Canada are largely under provincial jurisdiction. For example, provinces like Alberta (oil and gas) and Quebec (hydroelectricity) play a significant role in energy production and export. Any decision to cut off energy supplies to the U.S. would likely require consultation and cooperation with provincial governments. 5. **Public and Economic Impact**: Such a decision would have significant economic and political ramifications, both domestically and internationally. It would likely face intense scrutiny from Parliament, industry stakeholders, and the public. In summary, while the executive branch of the Canadian government has considerable authority over energy policy, a decision as drastic as cutting off energy or power supply to the U.S. would likely require parliamentary involvement, especially if it involved legislative changes or had significant economic and diplomatic consequences.
Potash …. How about a 100% tariff on potash? It’s absolutely necessary for agriculture and the United States currently imports over 90% of its annual demand, mostly from Canada. Perhaps 100% is too lenient. Sorry. 😊

Yes please do that buy the gripen
Canada should look into other options in the short term. Long term? We are no slouches in tech. We can make Canadian versions of anything the Americans have. We have the know how. We have the raw materials. The USA has betrayed the brotherhood. We did everything properly to uphold it.
Making everything here will be painful in the short term, but we would come out of it much stronger.

In Canada, tariffs on American products, or any imported goods, are generally set by the Canadian government under the authority of the **Customs Tariff Act**. However, certain changes to tariffs, especially those related to international trade agreements or significant policy shifts, may require parliamentary approval. Here are some key points:
Here's how it might work:
