..... we recorded this at the Tivoli nightclub on George St Sydney and I remember watching the playback and thinking how bad we played that night. There were a few mistakes and shit like that. I look back now and think what in the fuck was I worried about? Ah, hindsight is 20-20 but we really felt strongly about Sallie Huckstep because she was alive one day.... about to testify to police corruption and then she was dead. Corruption killed her sure, but her misery began with drug addiction and there's the rub. Sydney was awash with heroin in those days, and I can personally testify to that problem. Recovery one day at a time. 💙💙💙
Thank you for remembering Sallie Anne Huckstep. I was no closer to her than a "newspaper story", but her story was the first time it really hit home how petty and powerful corruption can be.
Unfortunately your old bass player friend Chris Toms passed away a few years back. You probably already knew but wasn't sure as he couldn't get in touch with you back then. I only knew him for a short while. Please excuse the public message. Take care 🎸
@@stateofblitz Hey thanks for the message and I only found out about Chris recently. Craig Bloxom in a perverse way mate, the good old days of Sydney. I was a Glebe and Darlo local back then. Not condoning the habits of the tasters but fuck it was a vibrant and very Sydney milleau in those days.
Thanks for the kudos everyone! We're lucky to have grown-up in the '80's because it was an incredible musical decade. And would you believe I'm playing my first gig in 17 years tonight? We do Spys, Jets, Oils, Chisel, Divinyls, INXS etc. all REGGAE! It's fun & funny. Toronto Hotel NSW Christmas Eve our first gig ever. Wish us luck! Merry Christmas everyone!

I was one of the people that bought the really big black CDs of Spy Vs Spy. Sally Anne's song has always stuck with me. And when I looked into the history I feel for her. I wish I could go back in time and save her.
Incredible song x RIP Sally Anne....strong woman...always remember, corruption , dirty cops, they may have taken you, but you let the world know how any why.
I actually released Sally - Anne from prison. It was the Norma Parker Centre, a minimum security prison in Parramatta. She said to me, I will be dead in a month. What struck me was she seemed to be resigned to her fate. I always thought she may have been safer in prison. This song has always resonated with me and brings a tear to my eye. She may not have been perfect but I found her to be a polite and kind person, and no matter what her misdemeanours, she had paid for them.
Spy's were one of my favourite bands in a great era for Australian music, this is a ripper of a song. Back when music had grit, dark and seedy and beautiful all rolled into one classic... Great memories of listening to V.Spy v.Spy in my bedroom as a teenager.
I remember those days...vividly. Thank god hammer never interested me...it was freaking everywhere back then. How scores of mongrels didn't go away for Sallie Anne's murder...but, karma usually catches up... RIP Mike and thank you Bloxy for some incredible nights.

Thanks for coming on my life’s journey Spy v Spy. You have been there from my teens all the way to my fifties! Saw you live all around Sydney. Best nights were in the tiny venue, The Bridge in Rozelle. Greatest Aussie band ever! Such big sound for three guys.
Live at Melbourne Uni 1989. With an NZ girl from Auckland. Ultra killer Spy v Spy with the best Aussie back beat, ever. Everybody was getting 'a leg over' in every way dancing like 'root rats.' seriously before, during and after the concert. Most fun I ever had, well as good as the Clash and English Beat.

When things don't work out right
City life makes you grow up fast
To each their own
We somehow find a path
But feet get dirty on the way
Disappointment always
Rears its ugly head
Expensive habits
Expensive tastes
Lead you to bed

To do what you must do
No destination, but always on the loose
