Put the little hose in it and sprayed the foam cleaner worked great !! After I just put a bit of gasket sealer to cover the little hole so next just peel it off to put more foam !
One of the reasons this problem occurs is because the drain gets partly clogged. By going up through the drain you can break loose some of that slim and gunk that is causing the problem.
Randy Rush absolutely true! Was the case in my 2005 Ram 2500.. with a little work, the kool it hose broke through the clog in the drain hose.. this product worked great on my truck
I am a full time Uber driver I really have to do this to my car because I’ve tried everything and the only thing that can get inside the sistema is this type of product thank you for the review
Better way is too take out your glove box remove blower fan spray right there the evaporator should be right by the fan reinstall fan turn on ac the fan should blow the foam onto the coil
A breath of fresh air is a good thing! Odor can also be caused by leaves and dirt collected under the hood on AC intake vent for outside air, usually near bottom of windshield. Cheers
Used it before just put it in. The other way from a pit. Smells great running to flush out. Yeah keep getting smell right but change if seasons. Washes pollen with out removing your whole ac system. Tough to find thanks Auto Barn!
I strongly advise you use an all natural disinfectant like Seventh Generation or essential oils. The industrial-strength cleaner from the Car Part Store will linger in your vents for weeks.
"essential oils" don't work on mold/mildew/bacteria in the same way as "industrial cleaners." It's why you'll never see that junk used in any area where mold control is an actual goal. Most of them are just covering the scent, not actually killing the root of the problem.
@@itsnotfunny8257 depens on which car. In Toyota it does not work, only from the drain hose is effective removing mold on the evaporator. It is 6 feet long to reach evaporator from vent. But the dirty part is at the bottom of evaporator where the blower channel in, next to drain hole. Similar to Germans cars or any Japanese car. Not sure for GM but Ford also the same, the drain hole is the best way. It is in the dealer service manual.
@@petervonpanda Thank you for the video, it is inspirational. However, after I checked my AC-box diagram (heatercore, evaporator, etc), The evaporator is at the bottom of the AC box next to the drain. I did what you suggested but still have some fault smell. Then, I pull the carpet on the passenger side and reach the drain hose. From there I insert as deep as possible the AC-cleaner plastic hose and spray it like mad and preventing it from shoot back. Now it is clean. The stack is: top (electric heater core), middle (heater core from radiator), and bottom (AC evaporator). That's why Toyota recommend it to insert the spray from drain hose (either from under the car or pull the house from the carpet).
Wouldn't you put it on the side that the air is coming in so that it works through? That means you would have to take the filter out and spray it into the outside vents or if you can spray it on the coils with the filter out if you can see them.
DONT do through the inside vent - if you are not sure if the tube gets down to the coil. I accidentally shoot the chemical into my eye because the tube runs from this vent to the other vent. I was wearing safety glasses, but thought it was ok to shoot it away into the vent so I removed my glasses. The chemicals came straight into my eye.
Thank you! I just bought an '06 Mercedes SLK that has a stink in the cabin. The service guys can't smell it. I think their noses are full of garage stank! Ordering this product tonight!
During the proces, would you recommend maintaining the the old cabin filter, remove it while it soaks, putting the new one in with the foam, or putting the new one once ot all dries up?
@@bloodgirl4 thank you. I went ahead and did it according the instructions and turned out really nice and easy. I have just bought really nice Rav4 2005 that hadn't had much use so it withheld an odd smell of old or of storage even after thoroughly cleaning and detailing the interiors, carpets etc. Left the filter change for the end. Its been almost a week and love it. Now the car really feels mine, lol. After the perfume has faded i can only smell the leather seats!!
Ive got a 2015 chevy sonic and the air smells like old playdough and crayons...im not driving it anymore until i kill the crap in the hvac system because it affects my breathing its so bad.
My car has been smelling ammonia(y). Had it to dealer, they said it was a clogged sunroof drain. HOWEVER, I have not found anything wet, any area that seems to smell worse than another, so I might try this to see if it solves the problem.
@@bryansychingiok It depends on the car's AC box design. In most Toyota the evaporator is on the top, the heater core is at the bottom. Therefore, his method works but some other cars has AC evaporator much deeper down. What I did to my Toyota, I combined both method, Spray from the top/middle vents and from the drain hose. It seems very effective but I need 1 big bottle 400mL
@rondhole I know this comment is a couple years old, but for those doing some pre-work research. ☝️This method mentioned is the best. Going thru the drain tube gets u closest to the evaporator. But only a portion of it. Going thru the vents gets to the evap from another angle, covering more area, giving you a better over-all cleaning. Cheers! 🍻
Yes, but much cheaper if you buy it from home depot/Lowes hardware store . YOu even can use gentle brush with isopropanol 50 % and rinse it with low pressure water.
I agree with rondhole, they do have a $7 foaming cleaner for AC lines. I would not want to try a product not meant for my vehicle, you risk damaging the unit and voiding any existing warranties. You could call Lube Gard and ask, I do like the hose attachment.
I think you're probably cleaning more the filter instead the evaporator. You could spray this product before the filter to get to the evaporator or spray through the drain tube
As long as you reach evaporator. It should work. Really depends on where the evaporator was located and designed. Most of the time, drain tube is the best since evaporator always at the bottom of AC box. Never put this product before the filter, it should be after the filter or filter will be wet, clogged or dripping dirt to blower and entire AC system.
@@rondhole I agree, spoke to AutoZone mechanic who used similar product in past, told to remove the inside cabin air filter or will have a wet mess inside the car; even if product cleans, getting the filter wet could cause the dirty unit to flush mold and mildew into the filter, making it a wet bacteria playground.
For my case, not only the evaporator coil was mouldy. The air vents channel from dashboard to the core housing was also a source of odour. Had to use isopropanol sprayed thru long tube via syringe. Thereafter, the car a/c smells like a new car (or a bit like walking into a recently cleaned hospital room, as isopropanol is a hospital grade disinfectant)
This is not an approved method from lube gard. You either go from the ac drain or remove cabin air filter and spray through there. If you are looking to just clean the vents you can sprat lysol this will make it smell nice
Possibly. I just had my drain hose flushed with air pressure by my mechanic and it was ice cold when finished, but I have a clog so it gets hot after the water pools and flows onto the passenger floor. I just tested this product today, felt cooler while idling and hopefully it will have cleaned mold / mildew / etc. that was blocking my drain hose from proper drainage. So in short evap core definitely affects your ac coolness, alternative is to have mechanic remove and manually wash the evap core or replace the evap core.
Do not use this product. The chemical smell was worse than the mildew smell. I could not even use the AC without the windows down. Not sure how long this cancerous chemical smell will last, but I have to keep the AC running on high and windows down while I'm driving until its all gone.

I like your idea. where is this box located? is it next to the blower fan underneath the glove box? thanks.

No.
You did not actually clean the evaporator, only the air ducts.
See your point, perhaps you can do that as a second job before the final part.
If that were true, the liquid wouldn’t drain from the evaporator core drain line tho…
Hope the ducts are all plastic and not the old style paper and spring type duct otherwise its orrf..

Yes, dangerous health hazard to inhale, reads on can to have plenty of fresh outdoor air while flammable fumes dissipate.
Not at all. It's made from Zyklon B , very safe product.

Typically, The AC Evaporator located at the bottom of the AC-box. Next to the drain hose at the floor of the car.
Exactly. I wonder if the foam actually reaches that area. Usually its the back of the AC evaporator that gets wet and accumulates all that gunk.
