Sloop John B The Beach Boys (WIDE STEREO Remix)

- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This is the complete version of Sloop John B remixed in -Wide stereo- Sound. This mix features Billy Strange on 12 string guitar that is buried in both mono and conventional stereo mixes. Remixed from the ADD final mix
There seems to be a lot of stories that aren't true. I was the son that was there at United Western Studios late December 1965. I was 10yrs old. I went with my dad and watched him mix a Nancy Sinatra song he had been working on.
I met Loren Green, the father from the TV show “Bonanza.”
It was one of my favorite westerns on TV, and starred Michael Landon, Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, and Loren Green.
Although it was real exciting meeting Mr. Green, I was a little freaked out when I saw that he was bald. Up until that day had never realized that any men wore wigs. I'm sure after that there must been more than a few men who thought to themselves, why is this weird kid staring at my head?
As we were leaving and walking to the car a man screamed Billy.
It was Brian Wilson from the Beach boys. My dad had played guitar on their new album called “Pet Sounds” and he wanted to know if my dad could play a session while he was there. He wanted dad to try "Sloop John B" a new way.
I carried in dad’s 12 string Mosrite from the car. He originally used a Gibson 12 string that Brain bought him.
There I was sitting in on a recording session with the Beach boys as my dad played guitar on the song “Sloop John B.” This was a great day. After the session, they came out to show my dad and I a couple of their new cars.
In the parking lot were two of the coolest cars I've ever seen. A Brown Aston Martin DB5 and a red Jaguar XKE roadster. I don’t remember whose car was whose but that was the day I became a car nut.
I don't think dad even remembered that day until I reminded him. But it was a very special day to me!
Jerry Strange fantastic story
Interesting story. Mosrites are great guitars...
That’s dope af
Jerry I'm sorry I just noticed this, but I want you to know I mixed this with your dad in mind. On both mono and stereo mixes Billy is somewhat buried in the mix. I found out the if you get the Stack O Tracks version of this song, invert one channel, and play it in mono, only one thing comes out, your dad's 12 string. With that said, At 1:11 your dad is on the right channel and he can be heard. I love his 12 string in this tune.
What a great story. Im 58 and cut my teeth on the 60s music ,and became a utility musician . Been playing for 39 yrs , clubs casinos . This music is timeless .
This is how the radio version should have sounded. Billy Strange's 12 string guitar part is outstanding, too bad it was buried in the original mix. Great job, King of Sync.
Great mix from a great composer.....a big shout out to Al Jardine for pitching this to Brian. He clearly knew that Brian could turn this into a classic.
amazing how the cream rises to the top. 50 years on, this music will be played forever!!
Still the best in music 😥😥
A Masterpiece
BEST SLOOP JOHN B EVER.
Can't really say anything that hasn't been said. Thank you for posting, and what a wonderful arrangement by such a talented group of people. Absolutely timeless.
The sheer artistry of this is breathtaking. Lots of levels. Lots of depth.
One of my favorite Beach Boys songs!!!
I love this version!
One of my fav. Beach Boys songs!!!!
One of the best songs ever made.
Can't get enough of this song. The more versions I hear the better it seems to get.
You are spot on...Addictive listening...
Just opened my eyes to this and my ears love it.
Simply incredible music. The best.
Brian Wilson was a pure genius (and still with us). When Pet Sounds hit the air, at that moment, Brian Wilson became the greatest writer and musician in the world.
Nothing more,nothing less….
Wait but Paul McCartney and John Lennon existed in 1966
Lancelot Arc nope
McCartney stated that when he heard Pet Sounds he thought it was the best album he ever heard and said that they (the beatles) had to really step-up their game. from that came Sargent Pepper check this out www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/the-classic-beach-boys-album-paul-mccartney-said-inspired-sgt-peppers.html/
@@cade9173 They were all among the elite writers and musicians of their time.
Great job, love it! Thanks for uploading.
Beautiful
Sounds great -- I really like that guitar and the backing vocals brought up! I put this one; the Kingston Trio that inspired Al to suggest this to Brian to record; and the first ever recording by Blind Blake Higgs (1930) in My Beach Boys covering & covered playlist. Thanks for the upload
Sounds fantastic !!
Those enhanced vocal harmonies shook Carl Sandburg awake.
Wow!!
Long live the memories of Dennis & Carl Wilson. xoxo The Clarences
Perfect !
Still listening.
You said it. The Wrecking Crew is THE Studio Band.
Good version
Great!
This song is really cool

# 10 on my top 20 Beach Boys songs of all time. I never got to record it, cause I recorded Don't Worry Baby in 1977. Wish I'd recorded it, cause at the time when I was 19, I could sing all 5 parts.
MrMotownmanny Why not do it now?
did you slow it down a tiny bit?
+getyerkix Nope actually speed before it was speed up. Right off the ADD mastered source

Awesome video! If you get a minute you should check out one of ours! Hope you like it!
This song reminds me of a better time in my life , Brian Wilson was way beyond a genius in music
So true. Genius. Heard every note, harmony and beat in his head. Phenomenal.
Pet Sounds proved his musical genius.

Those vocal harmonies... oh my!
To my ears, Brian had the purest falsetto of any human who's walked the earth. This music is so good I almost can't believe it happened.
Yes Andy. You're so right. This music is so sweet, it almost makes you cry. Beach Boys hysteria !!!!!
marc wishes right you are, friend!
Carl sometimes sang falsetto, but Brian was the original falsetto in their early years on tours, and also in many recordings.
Yeah it's Brian here on the falsetto. Every album up to and including Pet Sounds would have been Brian on falsetto. And mostly after too.
the world and music world are much better places for having Brian Wilson around....
1965,1966,1967,1968,1969 MAGICAL YEARS,MAGICAL MUSIC,MAGICAL ERA
TO BE A TEENAGER DURING THESE YEARS,WAS like living in heaven.
Whie I was only 4 in 1965 and had my teenage years in the 1970,s which by the way had great music, I always come back to the 60,s which in my opinion had the greatest variety of music including of course the beach boys. So in one way I to wish I had been a teenager in the 60,s though I would have been 10 years older now.
Alfonso Guerrero Estrella I could imagine! The poor teens today are exposed to crap that's a disgrace to the world music
Unless in Vietnam
The bottom line, records are not made like this anymore. I have yet to see a Brian, John, Paul or Phil today
This audio sounds unbelievably awesome. OMG.
This is why The Beatles were so enamored with them. They were constantly attempting to capture that arrangement, that inimitable sound. BB were the absolute best...listen to their take on California Dreamin...stunning.
this song shows Brian Wilson's genius
No, it shows the genius of the Kingston Trio from whose arrangement they took it.
@@dovbarleib3256 very true
@@dovbarleib3256 its a folk song not from them i know that and im german , lost
@@dovbarleib3256 that's laughable. I love the kingston trio but their version of the song was nothing like this remarkable version.
@@dovbarleib3256 no you are just a hipster
1:57 Coolest ever picture of Brian Wilson. :)
He was a handsome dude.
OMG, I played this through my Surround Master decoder. It is out of this world!
vienna boys chior
One of my favorite songs of all time!
Got this box set of "Pet Sounds 30th Anniversary Sessions" and for the last 3 months have played nothing else. This is how music Production, and Arrangement should be taught in schools. Fantastic.
Even better, if Brain Wilson was the teacher....If only...
In the movie “The Wrecking Crew,” a segment was on Brian Wilson, each and every one of these seasoned musicians were blown away, and pushed to the limit by this 20 something year old kid! The man is a genius!
Barry Spencer Isnt this great music! I love the wide stereo image on my soundmagic earphones, amazing stuff! The genius that is Brian Wilson!
*We really have to thank 'The Wrecking Crew', and Brian Wilson's genius. Beautiful song.*
A masterpiece!!!!!!!!!! Brian Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was The Wrecking Crew at it's best. Billy didn't have a 12 string when he came to the studio, so Brian went out and bought one and an amp. After the session he gave Billy the guitar, amp and $400.00
I'm 38 and I still love this song.. Such talent.. They just don't make them like this anymore.. Thank you Mom and Dad bringing me up with this.. Love you Beach Boys
Am 34 i grew up on the beach boys
lol
Ditto to your comment x
Galloping up to 70...the 60s wouldn’t of been the same without The Beach Boys...still play their hits...❤️ 🇳🇿NZ
Magic, especially WILSON THE MASTER GENIUS
Very, very good work on this song
I listened to many versions, the older ones are very crisp, that being said Brian Wilson still number 1 totally on top of the game, in a class by himself God bless! I Brian Wilson
Pity it's such an extremely low bitrate sounding mp3
that's for sure!
Sheriff Jon Stone Leave Me Alone
Jerry, thank you for your recollections from that day in and out of the studio. An amazing experience for you as a kid. Your story lends color to the black and white versions we've heard.
This is wonderful! Thanks for posting it!
This is very sweet. Thank you. sincerely.
Can't get enough of hearing it let me hear it again can't get enough let's go
I wish I could "love" this instead of just "like", over and over
Mon dieu que j’aime cette chanson elle tout simplement magnifique ❤️
je dois détenir le record d’écoute de sloop John b version Beach boys plus de 500fois ma chanson préférée!!!! Mon groupe préféré!!!
Dang auto text. BW was a Savant Composer. Genius.
Really excellent sound. Really crisp and wide. Thanks.
what s voice !,,
The Wrecking Crew maybe the greatest band of all time. They played on more hits then anyone. But the Funk Brothers come close.
I love it at the end especially when the vocals stopped in the music kept going
Probably the best composition ever made.
Easily one of Brian's best recordings, if not his best
I got my first cassette player at the age of 11/12, my mam had the beach boys classic tape, asked her for a long lend of it nd she never got it back, after about 30yrs just got back into listening to them again, they are just so amazing, one off the best bands of all time
Beach boys are amazing. They get better as I get older.
Brilliant! So great!
How did Brian cope with voices in his head during that time?
Is the sleeve on the screen with "The Wrecking Crew" a humorous mockup or was it a version of the album sleeve that actually was sold to the public? Of course, it really was The Wrecking Crew who played all the instruments on the album. Wilson's ideas and The Wrecking Crew's playing.
With out a doubt one of the best things coming from the music 🎶 world 🌎 it's a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!! And I'm very lucky to discover it. I can listen to it every day!
Those harmonies - wow
Musical heaven ! Amazing!
Magic song great picture of Brian thx for postin
Yes, magic!
I remember the high fidelity records why don't albums from this time have the same sound quality as the older ones?
Lucky 14 indeed. What a track.
The musicians here are the magnificent "Wrecking Crew".
Could anyone have a video recording as they do this lucky 13th take?
Harmoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Is that an alternate record cover?? Or is it a different release of pet sounds altogether??? I'm assuming The wrecking Crew is the studio band.
Austin Haybueno Photoshop
You are correct on the Wrecking Crew
Austin Haybueno The Wrecking Crew was incredibly instrumental in defining Brian Wilson's genius. These well known studio musicians played on many Beach Boy records.
it's been bothering me for over 45 years...who played bass on this?? Carol? Brian? Al? Bruce?? Help!!!

Original mix sounded just fine on every transistor radio at the time-actually better than fine.
Nice Job !
Nicely done. Can you do a wide stereo version of Do It Again?
Häftig låt !
Nice...I play this in my solo show...gets a great reaction...such a great song/arrangement!
The DVD-Audio "Pet Sounds" is pretty amazing!
Jack Daniels ciggs beer
Jättebra!
Just fantastic. What sounds.
I across this song via Lonnie Donagon. I'd heard a concert of him and he did this song. So taken with the song I then sort out other versions and I came across the Beach Boys version. Such great harmonies.
I do like Lonnie Donagon's more hushed vocals veeison though. So intimate. Show's what directions different people can go with one tune and each sound amazing.
My Sloop was named ZEBCO and slipped out @ Harbor Island West circa 76 ......So Cal or bust 🇺🇸
