  • Ajahn Brahmali advises us on how to deal with worldly problems like climate change and governments behaving wrongly. Ajahn reminds us to prompt the right view i.e. that the world going wrong is exactly what we should expect. Knowing this we shouldn’t become frustrated when things don’t go our way. We should instead focus on how we can be peaceful and kind regardless what is happening around us and their outcomes. At the end Ajahn shares a funny story about his student life. Over time I have realized that the gist of Buddha’s teachings boils down to one word “intention”. It’s where seeds of Karma are planted and from where samsara is kept in motion.

      @@helperboy5020 we realize it when our meditation practice deepens and the mindfulness becomes powerful enough peer into the subconscious. Otherwise “intention” is just a word/concept. Meditation gives us direct experience. Until then keep meditating and focus on “sila” (morality teachings). Without morality the samadhi will hit a plateau.

      @@helperboy5020 as Buddha taught there are broadly five hindrances that interfere with our mind’s ability to do anything: ill will, sensory desires, sloth and torpor, doubt and restlessness/worry. Usually these hindrances come in groups like restlessness and doubt. The first step would be to sit down for meditation and classify your distractions into these hindrances. Then read up Buddha’s antidote for each hindrance. With practice you start to identify these hindrances and wield the antidotes like a master swordsman.

    I searched through google what the word Bhanthe means: “Your persuasion powers make you into an amazing mentor. Especially in regards to psychological issues”. The word is spot-on for this gentle speaker. Thank you, enjoyed your lecture.

      gwendolyn wimbish, the word is a honorific given to sages in ancient India. It is a Pali word for respected madam/sir, devoid of any gender. It used to be applied to nuns and monks. There are Sanskrit and Prakrit (older than Pali) counterparts to that word.

    The wheel of samsara is a thing. As for climate protests, they'd be A LOT more credible if they bothered to clean up the trash they leave behind instead of expecting city workers to do it. Also, notice I'm not saying demonstrations are "wrong/bad/etc". I *am* suggesting to walk the talk. That includes being actively engaged in *voting*. Electing people who actively despise you by using their position as public servant to enrich *themselves*, supporting such cynicism, isn't the greatest idea. 😂 Welcome back to Ajahn Brahmali 🙏😊
    The only question I'd ask him is inspired but when he asks,"What's the point of it all?". That question *assumes* there must be a "point" to Life.
    Says who?

    If there isn't a point (definitive meaning) to life, then there isn't a definitive way to live. This means that only death (which is definitive) is meaningful and life is meaningless. This means Buddhism is meaningless. In order for life to be meaningful, there is only one way to live it. The point of life is to overcome death. However, how can one overcome death? Furthermore, who can say with certainty what is on the other side? If there is no definitive answer to this question - truly life is meaningless. This life bespeaks more than preserving sentience. Our sentience demands justice and accountability. We desire love, happiness and excitement. If there isn't a point to life, all of those things are meaningless too. All answers pertaining to the afterlife require faith. I place my faith in Jesus Christ who tells us in 📘 *John 14:6* that He is Truth, itself and that because I follow Him I am guaranteed eternal life. A life far better than this one that is guaranteed to still value justice, love, happiness and excitement. Jesus tells us in that same verse that only He can take a person to Heaven. Visit (UA-cam): *Living Waters* God bless you.

      @@ottawatheravadabuddhistvih5697 I watched your video: *What are the treasures that bring one’s happiness, according to the Vitta Sutta?* In the video we are told that "Saddha" is the "best treasure" a person can have (2:39). Notice how it is the "best" treasure and therefore isn't necessary. If Saddha isn't necessary, then it is not the point to life. However, Jesus (Who is Truth, Himself) tells us in 📘 *John 14:6* that the one treasure everyone *needs* is a relationship with Him.

      Suffering is very concrete and present, so are sensations and mental phenomena, and the fruits of moral and mental practice are well established.
      You and me embody the whole of existence and more, the scriptures we quote are imperfect maps.

    • @dublinphotoart
      @dublinphotoart 5 років тому +1

      It is not possible to have a relationship with Jesus any more than it is the Buddha. We can only align ourselves with certain qualities in order to get out of this endless cycle of birth and death... but even then that will only be when we have finally had enough of the repetitive and impermanent highs and lows, and distractions of apparent reality.... it is only ultimately that the repetition of birth and death and trouble and strife have no meaning,... but relatively they do have meaning as they represent an opportunity and are tools we can use to get out once and for all.... it is not an "other side", it is a transcending... a "getting out" whether you align with Jesus or whoever is not even the point.... as Ajahn Brahmali said, "some poeple just argue for the sake of arguing", it is a waste of your own time
