I'm hoping to see the movie in the next week (then I'll check out the book as well) but I love this cast so even if the movie isn't the best I know I'll overall really enjoy it. Ben Aldridge was just in Spoiler Alert with Jim Parsons & was incredible in that as well as playing Thomas Wayne in the Pennyworth series both of which I'd recommend.
Dave Bautista is a good dramatic actor. It helps that he has that look of urgency in his body language, and calmness at the same time. Plus, his physicality demands attention, ofc.
Out of the current Top 3 Wrestlers Turned Actors (John Cena, Dave Bautista and The Rock) Dave has proven himself to be the best one when it comes to range. He can do comedic stuff just as well as his dramatic roles.

I actually appreciated the excellent direction here. The camera was never placed in a boring perspective. Just a straightforward mystery/drama. More time should've been given to Rupert Grint. He was intense. Good ending.
Came to say the same. To me this is one of Shyamalan's best and a welcome return to top form after OLD that I found abysmal from a technical point of view.
To be honest I haven't really been much of Bautista fan or much of a wrestling fan either. I've known him for his career in wrestling and pivoting towards acting later in the years, he's become well known and has done great with his transition. This film brings out apart of his personal character to me that shines about how intimidating and big he is to beinf a loving and caring person. A gentle giant so you say. The movie is well done and emotional, you easily connect to each character. Neither were judged based on their life but just by what and who they represent in society as a whole as the husband mentioned in the end. God does things that we do not always understand but we must in all faith believe in him and what he does to achieve the bigger goal of things. Well done to the director and actors chosen.
@@Cinemahguy For an English actor, and as an English guy, I actually found Ben Aldridge hard to understand at times, tho his performance was good. However, I had no trouble with his speech in the excellent Pennyworth series! Did anyone else have trouble with hearing him?

I'm so glad to hear Stuckman likes this new Shyamalan flick so much.... Because it means I will almost certainly like it a lot as well. Chris is one of the few critics whom I will listen to, and weigh his opinion as close to my own tastes.
Love you, dude. Glad the full circle moment happened.. that was super cathartic to hear in your voice. Can’t wait to check this out. Thanks for always inspiring us.
Just saw it 2 hours ago. Had a really good time at the cinema, was invested until the end, and cared about what happens with these people. And while the ending can be glimpsed, it's all about the road there. I will also be looking for the book, I do like Tremblay a lot and I understand the book is a bit different. What I don't like however is people scoring the movie poorly because it does not have a twist. Let the man deliver an overall solid story without any weird thing inserted just for the sake of it. Not all movies can be The sixth sense and it's ok.
About Tremblay- I've heard a lot about his books in horror circles, do you have a book or author that you think is similar to him or his works? I've been sitting on the fence with him so I'm curious
Of what I' ve read maybe Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver might be a bit similar, though the action is not set in modern times. Tremblay was a bit of a breath of fresh air - good characters and storytelling and a modern take on horror - including things such as reality shows. Not super scary, rather unsettling. You might want to try Head full of ghosts - modern take on exorcisms, with the same technique as in Knock at the cabin - it makes you wonder whether it is real or not.
I love M Knight Shyamalan's work; I find his movies multifaceted and haunting. His camera work is outstanding and beautifully shot, with a Spielbergesque framing quality to it.
I love to see Chris review movies through the eyes of a filmmaker (although he always has been) now that he's worked on a fairly big production. What a cool evolution..keep up the awesome work!
Dude... Bautista's acting is really up there, he has such range to the type of character he can blend into. And the child actor of their daughter was really amazing imo she was better than some of her adult costars.
Good review--but was shocked you had never seen Ben Aldridge before :O But then I realized I've mostly seen him on UK TV shows. His biggest role in Hollywood was co-starring last year in Spoiler Alert (which I admit I'm a bad gay for not having seen.) But he's done a ton of great UK tv work--Fleabag and last year's mystery miniseries where he played a gay detective dealing with his own past in an extreme religious community, The Long Call (the actor publicly came out while filming the role), are probably the highlights. He's going to continue to have a great career.
Thank you for the lack of spoilers, and the personal touches you felt about the movie and Shyamalan. There are other channels that, the day the movie is released, tell what the ending really meant (I guess I'm too dumb to decide for myself), or do reviews that lay out the entire plot. I ignore these channels, but they are still annoying. I guess this is why we can't have nice things.
I loved it. As a big Shyamalan fan myself I agree that it is a top tier better awesome movie of his. The lighting and camera work was breathtaking and I loved it! It was intense and moving and I am not a super emotional person, but this movie not only made me emotional about things that might not normally get to me but it did so in such a way that it kept me on the brink of tears which impresses me. I also want to say that as soon as I heard that Jehovah's Witness joke I was, not only cracking up more than anyone else in the theater but also looking forward to your review even more than before XD
Bautista owned this film. Dune set him up for this and now he can truly shine and coke into his own. I’m not sure everyone expected this talent from him, but it’s much deserved.
I think this film is pretty good and just short from being great. I'm not sure where the film comes short from greatness, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it was close in my opinion. Everybody on the cast did a great job, Rupert Grint had a line that stays with you no matter what. And yes, Bautista is amazing on this film, I hope he gets his rom com, I will be there to see it!
@enzocrespin5806 I think a final twist would have been overkill It ended exactly how it needed to, the apocalypse was real and they believed it by the end
except for that one movie that doesn't exist, Shyamalan always delivers entertainment at the very least. Old was a mess but I was interested start to finish. I'm amped to see this one
Ever since chris became a ‘filmmaker’, these videos are becoming sugarcoating, biased, and politically correct/safe. And never failed to mention about his own movie or attempt of a movie every video. People come here for an honest review, but seemed to get only politicians view these days. Hope things go back to days where you have your views on good or bad, and not needing to ‘see from ones perspective’ and ‘everything has two sides’ bla bla nonsense
Thank you for mentioning the book. So much coverage about this movie is just not mentioning the book thing at all. It's upsetting as a huge fan of the author, so thank you!
Just like in Old, I thought the dialogue and acting was so incredibly awkward that it was hard for me to fully get sucked into the story. I think Shyamalan was really lucky having Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, Joaquin Phoenix, Mel Gibson and Samuel Jackson in his early movies, because they were able to sell the cheesy dialogue and story beats extremely well
@@VARMOT123 I agree they’re all great actors and some of them did outstanding performances. But in almost every scene I thought there was something extremely awkward. Especially when Dave Bautista says “I like this show, it teaches empathy and kindness.” The way he said it made me cringe so much, M. Night is pretty weak at directing actors IMO. I think Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson would’ve pulled off that cheesy line way better because of their effortlessly likable screen presence
I agree. I don't understand the hype for Dave Bautista as an actor personally.. Other than the opening scene before they enter the cabin his performance was meh
February is such a packed month I don't even know where to start Knock at the cabin, Magic Mike 3, Titanic re-release, Antman Quantamania and Cocaine Bear
Finally watched it. And it is suspenseful and well acted. The color palette is wonderful. Such a great tension. Bautista was perfect. Dialogue is paced so good.
I am excited to see this film. I am a huge Shyamalan fan and always have been. Because even the movies that aren’t received well, by the general audience, I get them. I understand them, and I understand and feel what he was trying to make people feel. Can hardly wait.
I guess I'm the only person in these comments that didn't like this movie. I watched it last night and I was very intriguing for most of the film, but there seemed to be some scenes that bait you in,then literally go nowhere. It also feels like you are waiting for a twist, that ultimately never comes. It's probably one of M Knight's more straight forward movies, and at the end of the day,it just left me feeling like I wasted my time watching it,even though the performances were all really good. This movie could've been much more.
I agree with you, M Night is in a whole special place for me. He has a light no one else has. I love so many of his films and the series Servant as well. You know you’re getting something special even if it’s not as perfect as Sixth Sense or my favorite, Signs, your getting incredible shots, cinematography and great stories. For me the movie Signs is a true gem. So I’m excited to see this ❤
i thought this movie sucked. Dave Bautista was great and i loved his acting, the acting was good in this movie, but i felt scenes were dragged out and alot of questions left unanswered.
This was a really good movie. All of the actors were great. And in times where movies just end and leave you wondering what the hell you just saw, I appreciate that this movie has an actual ending.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your review. I miss your old intro. What happen to that movie you directed ? What's the name of it again ? Also, it's not too late to come back to Jehovah.
I was not expecting this. The few reviews I've read are that's its another clanger from him and Bautista should stick to being a musclehead. I do like his weird movies regardless of what anyone else says though. The Village is still my fav, but I'm looking forward to seeing this more now after watching this.
To me M. Night is like our Alfred Hitchcock. I absolutely loved The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, and Split. I enjoyed some of his other work, however there were films I didn’t much care for at all. That being said, I continue to get excited every time he has a new film out because I mostly find myself having a great time especially with the endings!
It felt like a cross between The Happening and Signs...in a good way. I love me some Shyamalan, but he's growing as a filmmaker. The dialogue in this movie (or at least the direction for its delivery) was significantly better than it's been in his previous movies. This is what The Happening probably should have been.
The first time watching the movie, it was more from the family's perspective of who the hell are these crazy people. The second time watching the movie was interesting because in knowing the ending that the apocalypse is actually real, you see the movie from the 4 horsemens side where they have convince a family to sacrifice one of them or the horsemen will have to kill themselves one by one bringing forth the apocalypse. Also seeing the opening credits of the movie was cool. You see hospital or school work with scribbles of the visions and for some reason its creepier when you know the backstory if the 4 horsemen.
Dude I’m the same. I’ve HAVE to watch every Shyamalan movie ever since I fell in love with Signs. I’m not really a movie buff but I always enjoy the way he tells stories.

Dave was fantastic in Blade Runner 2049. Saw right then what a depth of talent he had for acting.
Yea and he was in one scene and it’s one of the more memorable scenes
Glad he enjoyed this one. I haven't seen it yet, but I always enjoy Chris talking about M. night and the influence that Night had on Chris. I wish he had reviewed Old just so I could hear his thoughts, even if he didn't like it. It's that passion that just comes through. Glad people seem to like this. M. Night has been through a lot, and seems to be back on track.
Shyamalan shines again, he's definitely showing his own style of filmmaking and the performances he gets out of the actors is spot on. Bautista is definitely becoming a refined actor.
That slumdog bastard did it again
yeah... zero subtlety, explaining stuff to the audience instead of letting them figure it out for themselves, and giving a an ending that left no positive or negative onto the audience.
He's honed that craft by ignoring all criticism, and became a shadow of his former self.
@@ChimiMyChanga73 unfortunately i have to agree with u, I always tried to be his advocate but that movie really showed a very poor execution of an idea.
When I first saw the teaser for this movie, I ordered the book that it was based on. I really enjoyed this movie and I loved the book. I think the book has a stronger final third than the movie although I can see why they decides to change it. If you haven’t read the book, please do, it’s very good and incredibly heartbreaking.

what happened in the book?
I was shocked when I read the negative reviews on this one. It’s not only a fantastic movie but totally cinematic as well
I've been waiting for your take on this, because I know how important his films are to you. So happy you enjoyed it, can't wait to see it!

A skill M. Night doesn’t get enough credit for is intertwining religion and spirituality themes into his films that are both thought provoking and chilling.
People literally talk about that constantly
Probably bc this movie doesn't make any sense an has giant glaring potholes
@@gnat4999 damn. Pot holes? I didn't see any potholes, let alone giant ones. Care to explain?

I'm pretty mad at myself for waiting as long as I did to see it. It was so much better than I thought it was going to be. I can't even express how impressed I was.
I’m so excited to see where Bautista’s career goes from here, he’s just been getting better and better
Shyamalan is such an influential filmmaker for this channel. Haven’t had a Shyamalan review since Glass. Glad Stuckmann reviewed this one
i think Chris skipped reviewing Old if i remember correctly
@@ColinHortonMovieReviews yes. He didn't like it therefore he didn't review it. But I still find it weird because Shyamalan is such an important filmmaker to him that he wouldn't talk about it at all

@@VARMOT123 Yeah, and I just don't get that. Love the guy, but I thought this was a movie critic's channel...................he shouldn't be afraid to review movies he doesn't like. (He also stopped doing his end-of-year "Worst Movies" list too a number of years ago............................I don't get that either).
The twist here is that the family turns out to be antagonists when you think about it.
Up untill Chris I havent seen any reviews talking about the cinematography. The ton of great close-ups carried this movie for me
Did anyone else see Eric’s face in the cloud reflection on the windshield when they finally decided to listen to Boogie Shoes before driving away like he was looking down on them and with them even in death?
I'm hoping to see the movie in the next week (then I'll check out the book as well) but I love this cast so even if the movie isn't the best I know I'll overall really enjoy it. Ben Aldridge was just in Spoiler Alert with Jim Parsons & was incredible in that as well as playing Thomas Wayne in the Pennyworth series both of which I'd recommend.
Ben Aldridge was also in Fleabag
Dave Bautista is a good dramatic actor. It helps that he has that look of urgency in his body language, and calmness at the same time. Plus, his physicality demands attention, ofc.
Out of the current Top 3 Wrestlers Turned Actors (John Cena, Dave Bautista and The Rock) Dave has proven himself to be the best one when it comes to range. He can do comedic stuff just as well as his dramatic roles.
I always get a kick when you bring up Jehovah's Witnesses as a joke or a thought etc. only because I left that cult religion in 1993 and never looked back and never talked about it until you made your video over a year ago or so and that blew me away which helped so now like you said it's full circle lol. Much love and respect to you my brother. Thumbs Up and shared! A+++
Cult? How Come?We have Free Will😅You were not force to become a member, you & chris chose to leave the religion,it's your own choice😅why keep dragging JWs into a bad spotlight😅
Chris, I thought of you the moment I heard that JW joke. Glad that you shared your reaction to it in this video!
I’ve been WAITING for your review on this movie!!! 😊
The acting as a whole in this movie was really top notch
The camera work in the opening between bautista and the girl was so unsettling yet comforting. Hell of a job from Shyamalan
Ben Aldridge was my favourite part of this movie. His acting was just incredible.
I know people say Dave but man Ben was amazing in this.
@@Cinemahguy For an English actor, and as an English guy, I actually found Ben Aldridge hard to understand at times, tho his performance was good. However, I had no trouble with his speech in the excellent Pennyworth series! Did anyone else have trouble with hearing him?
He was easily the standout performance.
He was much more impressive than Dave Bautista
I told My girlfriend. We Will always know Ruperths biggest role is In HP. But he has done some Quality stuff In The last couple of years, that we can't ignore anymore.
I'm so glad to hear Stuckman likes this new Shyamalan flick so much.... Because it means I will almost certainly like it a lot as well. Chris is one of the few critics whom I will listen to, and weigh his opinion as close to my own tastes.
Damn Chris that full circle story is so cool! Warms the heart.
Love you, dude. Glad the full circle moment happened.. that was super cathartic to hear in your voice. Can’t wait to check this out. Thanks for always inspiring us.
You’re the grooviest, Chris. Keep on doing you. We are all around to see it!
Just finished this film on peacock … I came straight here afterwards. You’re truly my favorite film & movie reviewer/critic
@@parshul thank you! I think that may be on my TBR so that lines up nicely. I'm always up for unsettling over outright scary
I love M Knight Shyamalan's work; I find his movies multifaceted and haunting. His camera work is outstanding and beautifully shot, with a Spielbergesque framing quality to it.
The opening scene with the daughter and Batista catching grasshoppers was so well shot, masterclass in building tension
I love to see Chris review movies through the eyes of a filmmaker (although he always has been) now that he's worked on a fairly big production. What a cool evolution..keep up the awesome work!
Trust me, Shelby Oakes is a very small production, it's just big for him
Yeah that's true.. but it feels like a big deal!
I’ve just finished watching this at the cinema and I loved it! Much better than I was expecting! Highly recommend
Dude... Bautista's acting is really up there, he has such range to the type of character he can blend into. And the child actor of their daughter was really amazing imo she was better than some of her adult costars.
Can't wait to see this one! M.Night's films are always something to look forward to!
Not always.
You can tell Chris is a fan boy. He is the only person talking about the movie like this
Thank you for the lack of spoilers, and the personal touches you felt about the movie and Shyamalan. There are other channels that, the day the movie is released, tell what the ending really meant (I guess I'm too dumb to decide for myself), or do reviews that lay out the entire plot. I ignore these channels, but they are still annoying. I guess this is why we can't have nice things.
I am SO glad this film was good and I’m going to see it this weekend. Thanks Chris!
It was excellent! M night really did a great job!
The ending is a bit flat I'd say. I expected a final twist
@enzocrespin5806 I think a final twist would have been overkill
It ended exactly how it needed to, the apocalypse was real and they believed it by the end
except for that one movie that doesn't exist, Shyamalan always delivers entertainment at the very least. Old was a mess but I was interested start to finish. I'm amped to see this one

Saw it today. Really solid movie! Off the charts acting by everyone. I was really impressed by the acting from the guy that played “Daddy Andrew.”
Daddy Andrew is Ben Aldridge, he was fantastic. If you want to see him in a recent film he did, check out "Spoiler Alert" he was phenomenal in it.
I’m glad Chris actually focused on the movie and not M Night’s failures like so many still do. M Night still has greatness in him.
I think Shyamalan was really lucky having Bruce Willis, Toni Collette, Joaquin Phoenix, Mel Gibson and Samuel Jackson in his early movies, because they were able to sell the cheesy dialogue and story beats extremely well
But these are great actors though in knock at the cabin . Jonathan groff is an amazing actor. Same as Rupert, dave etc
Finally watched this today. So many feels. Good grief I missed him at his peak like this. Love it
February is such a packed month I don't even know where to start Knock at the cabin, Magic Mike 3, Titanic re-release, Antman Quantamania and Cocaine Bear
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie and a big fan of Dave Bautista too. Props to everyone involved to this instant classic
Seeing the movie in 30 minutes, this came at the perfect time. Haven’t seen any reviews yet so idk what to expect
Feel free to come back here and comment your thoughts on the movie
Hope you like it man, I saw it last night
It's Good hope you enjoy it
just enjoy bautista he’s amazing in this
Post a reply once you've finished the movie and give your thoughts
So I’m excited to see this ❤
Another great review stuckmann!! Love watching your reviews man! I’ve been hoping to see an infinity pool review from you
i thought this movie sucked. Dave Bautista was great and i loved his acting, the acting was good in this movie, but i felt scenes were dragged out and alot of questions left unanswered.
Thank you. Scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and finally find what im looking for. Confirmation that its shite.
@johnthegodfatherslack anytime man. Movie sucked balls. Simple as that. I gotta give it another watch tho.
Seeing it tomorrow. Jonathan Groff is from my hometown so I love supporting anything he does.
I wouldn’t say all the dialogue in Knock at the Cabin was great. But it was definitely the most enjoyable Shyamalan film since Split.
This was a really good movie. All of the actors were great. And in times where movies just end and leave you wondering what the hell you just saw, I appreciate that this movie has an actual ending.
Highly recommend Spoiler Alert Ben Aldridge was in it last year and it’s surprisingly a great little romantics drama
I haven't been to the theater in a long time. Everything I was seeing about this one was definitely getting my interest up. I was eagerly waiting to hear your thoughts on this one. After your review I definitely want to see this in the theater. I love so much of Shyamalan's work (Signs is my all-time favorite movie) and anticipate that this will be a favorite as well.

Chris and Shyamalan are "peers" now and he absolutely loves it
I loved this movie. Dave’s performance was absolutely incredible. I also loved the camera angles and how there were a lot of close up shots, it made you feel the emotions of the characters a lot more.
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your review. I miss your old intro. What happen to that movie you directed ? What's the name of it again ?
Also, it's not too late to come back to Jehovah.
I will see every m night movie for the rest of time. He is my favorite, even when I don’t like them, I always love visiting the worlds he creates.
Same! I know it's not a popular opinion but I LOVED The Visit....such a fun and creepy film!
I can't imagine having the budget to shoot an entire feature length movie on 35mm film.. I'd cry with joy
I'm so glad you say it was a good movie. I can't wait to see it
Ben Aldridge played Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas Wayne in the Alfred Pennyworth TV show, Pennyworth.
It does look beautifully shot...loved the poster, too...classic Saul Bass vibes..
Such a great review and my exact thoughts. I absolutely loved it.
Dude I’m the same. I’ve HAVE to watch every Shyamalan movie ever since I fell in love with Signs. I’m not really a movie buff but I always enjoy the way he tells stories.
I'm excited for this movie I'm seeing it tomorrow with a couple of my college buddies.
I think you’ll enjoy it. It’s great
